I have to agree with some. I wouldn't have done that myself on a 80's gibson. However, you did an amazing job on this one. Too bad it's a 3 piece maple top.

I get the point a lot of people are making about wanting to keep it vintage (and personally me I would have kept it like that myself), but you have to understand something.....it's his guitar (or an order, wasn't too sure of that), so the actual owner can do what they want.

THe way i see it, Gibson Les Pauls are the most over priced and over hyped buitars on the market, It's not like its a 58 standard that's irreplaceable. Just an 80's era paul with nothing special about it and no crazy provenance, and at the end of the day, it's YOUR guitar. I think it turned out beautifully, i personally would have left it alone but then again its not mine! Great craftsmanship. The Gibson purists are kind of like prius owners, smug and fickle.

You take great care in your workmanship and that is to be commended. I was fine with the back and side stain/color, but the top (face) color is a mystery...I see you noted it was requested work - However, I believe the customer requesting this work should have been taken out in a field and shot. If it were mine, a deep cleaning/polishing would have been my request - although only 30 years old, it has some character to the guitar that should have been preserved.

Nice technique in recovering the serial number and the "MADE IN U.S.A." stamping. I'm having trouble recovering my White LP Custom ... serial # (?)2115120. In the case of Gibson, there is a feeler in the serial number and the filler is buried, so if you take it off, the serial number may become darker.

Nicely done. Don't listen to the Gibson fanboys, this particular guitar isn't a vintage or collector. This is just another factory made guitar. If the client wants it like that, so be it. I also have to do a new paint job on a 1997 Gibson Les Paul. I told the client that it would be harder to sell it because it wouldn't be in its original condition anymore. He agreed to that because he doesn't want to sell it at anytime. It's his main guitar to play on stage and he intends to keep it. If it was a vintage piece I wouldn't do it. But in this case (no pun intended), this is just another guitar.

Did I say that I love that finish, btw?? 😉👌 Edit: I've read your answer to other comments and now I know it's oil. How many coats for being finished? I want to apply an "almost transparent" one just to enhance the wood, but It will be my first time and I don't know how to balance the "protection" of the finish and not to darken the wood more than I want
