Overview of this rare and unique Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom from 1984. This one isn't all original but has all the right vibe and Tim Shaw pickups to make it stand out among others from this time period. A really unique and interesting piece of Gibson history on these Studio Custom's and Studio Standards.

I am the proud owner of an 85 Studio Custom. Based upon the 1957 'Black Beauty'. Best guitar I've had over the past 52 years. Gibson put real effort into producing their best last good guitars. (In my opinion) Great review P.G.

Heck ya. I kept my blue sparkle refinish mostly because I don’t think anyone would appreciate and love it as much as I do. There are still kind of sleeper les Pauls. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Always been curious about these Studio Customs from the 80's(since the 80's). They look pretty cool.

Really considering purchasing but I will absolutely need to get a refret done. Which is another $450-500 so the cost is getting pretty high at that point. I have an ‘84 studio in white that I love and have since always wanted the old studio custom

These are the fretless wonders and are designed to be low and wide. They feel different and in an easy pleasant way but I hear you. They aren’t for everyone.

@@PhoenixGuitars Yea it is unfortunate. The man Les Paul liked it that way but unexpectedly his guitars ended up being used mostly for blues and rock and not so much for jazz ha. Anyway, I am the one who purchased this black beauty on reverb. These rarely come along and this is a stunning example especially with the ebony board. I usually see them with standard rosewood. I’ll have to get it refretted some time in the future. Thanks.

@@zepp1832 Hey there, She's a beauty! I have an 84 Cherry Burst Studio Custom, complete with the Shaw pick-ups and Chainsaw Case. I was wondering what you paid for yours? They seem pretty hard to come by and I've only ever seen one other here for sale in New Zealand. Cheers.

@@007SpencerForHire Hey, I paid about $2900 for mine a bit over a year ago. Older listings from the last 5 years or so, I would see them go for anywhere from $1400-$2200. Nowadays I dont really see them going for any less than $3200-$4000. Prices have become really inflated sadly. I’m afraid when a white LP studio custom shows up I won’t even be able to afford it.
