This whole album was written and recorded by Tom Scholz (The guy in the silver jump suit with the gold guitar) in the basement of his Boston apartment building in 1974/75 which was unheard of back then. He also built a lot of his own recording equipment (He was an engineer at Polaroid) and helped to make home recording what it is today with some of the gear he designed. The fact that he got these kinds of sounds in a basement with home-made gear in the mid 70s is incredible. And he wrote great songs on top of it (He played all the guitar and bass parts along with the organ, the guy is crazy talented). Your reaction to Brad's high notes was awesome, great job as always!
@0okamino

I’ll go ahead and blow some very deserved smoke up Tom Scholz a bit more, by pointing out that he wasn’t just any engineer for Polaroid (which is already impressive enough); by age 27, he was one of the senior design engineers there.

I think you had a totally fitting reaction to Brad Delp’s singing- you clearly grasped the significance of his astonishing high notes. It’s been said he had a genuine four octave vocal range. I wouldn’t quite know myself, but I do know one thing. These still have to be some of the greatest high notes ever hit in rock.

The band Boston was one MIT student.who had an idea of what a rock band should sound like, set up a studio in his home, and began recording all the parts, then one day he stumbles on a man with this voice, and the rest is history. What amazes me about his upper register, is when he taps into it, the electric guitar comes in for the pre-chorus, and I genuinely have a difficult time telling his voice apart from the guitar.

@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Music is so unreal to me. I like some bands many hate and despise others with unreal popularity. My musical tastes are best described as bizarre. That is pretty much why I only focus on what pleases me and not others. The Boston debut came out when I was 12 years old. It's a keeper. I couldn't listen to Lamb of God at first, but I love it now. I grew up on Judas Priest, very early Iron Maiden, Rush, and Triumph. I can go from Amon Amarth to Kenny G.

If you haven't already, check out Pat Benatar. She was a classically trained singer who was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music but chose a different path and married her high school sweetheart. Her mother was an opera singer who gave it up to raise her kids. Fortunately, Pat found her way back to music. Fun fact: Pat & her guitarist Neil Giraldo have been working together since 1979 and married since 1982. Pretty remarkable.

Love your reaction and appreciation of this incredible band! Brad Delp had the magic voice. No doubt. The band history is a story that is almost unbelievable, but true. The spaceships on the album cover are actually upside down guitars. Look.

My favorite album of all time! You can start the album and let it play all the way to the end. Every song is great! Thanks for sharing!

What you surely hasn’t noted is that , before the first guitar preparation to the chorus , when he sings “ I close my eyes and I slipped away” he sings the same notes that the guitar plays” . Rick Beato channel puts the voice track only and it’s incredible how Brad sings . This part it’s not notice by many , like me that has been listen to Boston since 1976.
