From Gibson:
Les Paul Supremacy
Gibson is excited to announce the return of the Les Paul™ Supreme. With a refreshed feature set, it is bound to overshadow everything else in sight and be one of the most exciting new releases of the year. It features a beautiful AAA-figured maple top on a mahogany body with Ultra-Modern Weight Relief. The mahogany neck has an ebony fretboard with a compound radius and Super Split Block mother-of-pearl inlays. The neck has a Modern Contoured Heel for exceptional upper fret access, and the headstock is adorned with a striking new mother-of-pearl inlay inspired by a design from the 1940s that was discovered in the Gibson archives. The Burstbucker™ Pro and Burstbucker Pro + pickups are paired with push/pull Volume and Tone potentiometers for flexible coil tap, phase, and Pure Bypass switching. The three gorgeous finishes are elegantly highlighted with gold hardware, making this not only a great-sounding and highly flexible instrument but also an exceptionally beautiful-looking modern rock machine. A hardshell case is also included.

I picked up a wide-flame Wine red supreme. Interesting thing is in normal light it almost looks black but when the lights hit it it looks like the eye of Sauron... pretty epic! I usually play LP Classics and this was a lot different, its my fave though, you can tell they put a lot of extra effort in the product. As I play LP Classics I'm used to the Bridge open pull so that doesn't mess me up. The Neck reminds me of my 91 Peavey Destiny, thin, flat, and fast.

It’s a beautiful guitar both in looks and sound and playability, not to mention the lightness of its weight…love how it is able to do jazz like tones to screaming chaos!!

I do miss the carved maple back and double bound body of the old Supremes but the split blocks and vintage headstock inlays are still great.

Great review - appreciate the frankness! I have a modern, and feel better about not spending the extra cash. I especially love the assymetric neck on the modern

Some things cannot be quantified, such as perceived beauty. I have a gorgeous 2013 Les Paul Standard in mint condition. The reason that it’s in mint condition is because I hate the asymmetric neck, so I rarely play it for more than a few minutes at a time. But, I love everything else about it. So, for me the Les Paul Supreme would get more value points than the Les Paul Modern, which is almost identical to the Standard that I rarely use, the fretboard material being the biggest difference (the Standard is rosewood). I love the feel of ebony fretboards, and would gladly trade my Standard for a new Supreme, as my Les Paul Custom has become too heavy, due to back and leg injuries, for me to play standing for any length of time. I also liked the jazzy tones of the pickups in the Supreme. It would mix well in the group I play with at church. So, while I wouldn’t argue with John’s overall score for him, my overall would be at least a half point or more higher. Plus, that thing is beautiful to look at!

I have a Les Paul Classic. Unfortunately for the same reasons as yourself, my guitar is now too heavy for me to play longer than ten minutes. I hate to say it but I'm actually considering buying a lighter SG.

@@jasonmyers3847 I have an SG. I like it a lot. I have several guitars, so I tend to rotate through them. My favorite guitar is my LP Custom, but the SG is a very close runner up. I like the 490’s, they are probably my favorite pickups, especially for jazzy or bluesy tones, but they can rock too. I bought an Epiphone Marty Schwartz ES 335 last week, and I really like the sounds that I can get from it. It’s very versatile. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I have an older Supreme and just got the new 3 pickup black beauty version of the 2023 Supreme and it literally levels all of my other guitars. I don’t know what they did to this new Supreme but it plays way better than my old one as well as my Modern, Slash, R7, R8, Custom Silverburst, Adam Jones, Goldtop, etc. I’m gobsmacked honestly. The bridge pickup is hot but cleans up nicely. The neck is .87 at the first and .90 at the 12th which feels so fast with the compound radius. The coolest thing about this 3 pickup version may actually be the ability to get a super clean almost acoustic tone when using just the middle pickup. I can play basically any genre on this thing AND it weighs around 8 lbs. Most Black Beauties I’ve encountered are over 10 lbs. I feel so fortunate to have found this thing and apparently they are limited edition only available direct from Gibson, which is how I got it.

I’m sincerely considering buying the exact same guitar! I’m on the fence between the LP Supreme Black Beauty or a Suhr Modern Plus. I love the sound of my Gibson studio. I play lead guitar at my church but my favorite genres to play at home are rock, hard rock, and metal. Would you recommend it for my situation?

The pickups are great. Compared to the Burstbucker III's on my Traditional Pro Exclusive this guitar is way more punchy and not as dark, contrary to the findings in this video. Is it too expensive? Yes! Does it play, look, and sound great? Yes!

The older discontinued Supreme to me looks more high-end and elegant. The new one here has one hell of a top no doubt, but I was disappointed to see what was under the hood. I even like the old headstock inlays better, it looks more expensive. At 4K there shouldn't be any PC board. I'm not a fan of the hot PUPS they are not articulate, but that's okay if you are loud and drop-tune it. The word Supreme should mean just that, the guitar that rivals all. Other than the sticking top, I'll keep my $4000. I am a huge Gibson fan and for me to sound negative is rare. I like that you were honest in your review because I heard the same things you described at the end.

I agree with your comments. It should have has hand wiring, double binding, even if they went with a new headstock inlay. I would have liked to also see an Axcess neck carve on a $4000 guitar, locking tuners, and the option to pick an asymmetrical neck profile like the Modern or a regular C. I also agree with Zack about flaming the back and neck, and feeling they should have picked brighter pickups that most people would have preferred (or again, given a choice of pickup options). I noticed one major difference between this Supreme and the Gibson Moderns. The Supreme has a phase reversal toggle while the Gibson Modern does not have that, and instead, only has a boost toggle. I felt that’s an odd choice for the Gibson Modern and didn’t understand why it wouldn’t have also had the phase reverse toggle when the Epiphone Modern has a phase reversal toggle. I personally think that’s much more unique and useful to most players who would be picking up a Modern model. It’s possible to always boost a guitar with amps and pedals, but you’ve gotta either have pickups installed wrong or a phase reverse built into the guitar to get that sick quack - never gonna be the same with pedals and effects. Anyway, if you ask me, the Epiphone Modern is the best out of these three guitars at $699 (and less if you ask the dealer for a discount). The Supreme isn’t nearly as over the top as the original Supremes and certainly should not cost $4000 for what it is. It should have been called a Gibson USA Modern Custom, if anything. If you really want a boost in the guitar, you can always get that modded on the Epiphone because there’s one knob that currently is not push/pull. They you’d have the same tones and playability with nicer sounding pickups than the Supreme offers, minus a few differences in looks. With the SG Supreme looking to be shaping up as a thing, I have a feeling it’s gonna be a similar situation as this LP Supreme.

Think I’d like a modern lite with Greeny type pups for the OofP sounds over the supreme or modern. All the other tap/split whatever are too many options for me.

I was invited to play and buy the Supreme before it was officially released. I wasn't impressed in the least, especially for the price they were asking. For $900 more you could by a Custom Shop LP Custom; (which i did) a much nicer guitar. I don't know why they wouldn't make the Supreme a Custom Shop offering. It could've been great. The "modern" collection has been trash so far.

Gibson keeps recycling the same tired old color combinations. Not sure who they will continue to sell instruments to once all the older customer base kicks the bucket. Gibson really should start transitioning into bring the supreme model to something more appealing to a wider customer base and not just the older ones. Sure, it look beautiful but it certainly wouldn't be picked up by anyone under 50 years of age...as it just looks old.
