Yep PRS comes to mind. Even their made over seas models are QC’d before shipping out of or in US. I’m a huge Gibson fan. Always have been but it is disappointing that the prices go up and quantity goes down. I’ve had very few issues with my 2020-2021 custom shop guitars but did have heavy binding bleeding on my 58 CS Les Paul Standard and a couple of lose screws but I can live with that. Still you’d think they’d check and not just push it out the door. We’ll see what the future holds for Gibson.

A few months back I finally received my LP custom in white. I had to return it based on so many Q.C. errors... paint on the headstock, crooked inlays and had the exact same lacquer problem around the pickups almost as if the body was oversanded. I appreciate that the customs are hand made and each one has variations but there is really no excuses when buffing compound is left of the body. And yes the cases suck. I can relate to your friend.
@TheNeuroticGuitarist Жыл бұрын
This is why I suggest if you're gonna by a M2M you go on reverb and by bobs broken dream, not pay gibson 3x more for your own future broken dream lol
@hkguitar1984 Жыл бұрын
LOL, buffing compound in the pickup routes. That is one of the ways I'm sure its a Gibson. In 1977 I purchased a then brand new Les Paul Deluxe, and yes, it had budding compound in the pickup cavities. Another weird thing Gibson does, when they belt sand the face of the headstock towards final assembly the belt will often contact the truss rod nut and grind it down! I've seen it often enough to just come to accept it. For some people it is those strange QC quirks that make a Gibson a love/hate relationship thing. (IMHO)
@Richard_Lush Жыл бұрын
That’s awful. I thought under this new management Gibson was getting its shit together. I’ve been pretty lucky with the few Custom Shop guitars I’ve bought but if someone is custom ordering a guitar and paying a mint to do so you’d think they’d put a bit more effort in. Disappointing to say the least.

I honestly think that when they figured out they were making the wrong guitar they frankensteined something they had into being his M2M. I don't think this guitar was made from scratch for him. That's my gut feeling
@Clabian96 Жыл бұрын
This is one of many reasons why I sold my gibson and haven't ever bought a new one. There are so many more videos out there like this. They don't stay in tune. They should pay their workers better when they're selling guitars for $8000 (sometimes less sometimes much more). The paint jobs on all levels of guitars have been on par with $100 Chinese guitars. If you're getting a $5000+ guitar, the paint should be impeccable. They charge way too much for the custom shop stuff. I can get a custom Kiesel for much less and higher quality. Undoubtedly, Kiesel has more custom options than Gibson. That's not to say Gibson never made a good guitar, but if I received this guitar that I custom ordered and it came in with this many mistakes, I would just return it. Clearly, no effort or care was put into building that guitar that someone spent $8000 on. There are many other luthiers that will build you a custom guitar for way less and put in their best workmanship. This is embarrassing for Gibson, to say the least, and just proves their lack of QC over the past few years, and the effect of how little they pay their workers has on the production quality of their instruments. Shame on Gibson for shipping this to someone without doing the proper QC on a $8k custom guitar.
@TheNeuroticGuitarist Жыл бұрын
I don't disagree other than there are plenty of great gibsons, just buy them used for the right price and problem solved. I have never spent anywhere near 8k on any instrument and I have plenty worth way more than this.

We pay extra for flaws. This isn't 1980, a high end CNC machine, robotic sprayer & polisher, can all perform more consistent than hand built. Pre cut and polished SS frets on a zero tolerance *micro precision* neck is truly flawless. But flawless isn't what we want. We want whatever magic aura that we believe hand made installs into the instrument. And let's be honest, we KNOW Gibson is way more likely to send us a very flawed product, than not. Remember, Always buy a Gibson through a reputable authorized dealer and Never through Gibson. The dealer will help you resolve any QC issues should they arise after your purchase.
