What I find kind of crazy is when the finish cracked on my old Les Paul after it rode under the bus in the winter, I was very disappointed that my guitar didn't look new anymore, and for years, every time I'd look at the guitar, I'd regret not insisting on keeping the guitar with me in the cabin on that bus ride. Now people pay thousands extra for that.
@terminusest90833 жыл бұрын
I don't understand it either. You also achieve the same effect by buying it new and then playing it for 20yrs - surely the 'owning and playing' option is best.

@Terminus Est Problem with that argument ("just play it for 20 years and relic it yourself") is that it often takes quite a bit longer than 20 years for a guitar to age andlook lightly relic'ed. Some people (those aged in their 50s and 60s) don't have 20 years to relic it themselves cos they'll either be dead or too old to play and enjoy their relic'ed guitar.

i got a red one a few weeks back. Best electric guitar i've ever had. They got some magic in this run of guitars. I bought a non Murphy 64 earlier last year and for some reason it didn't have the same resonance and vibe. I wound up swapping it for a les paul. I would never have bought a heavy relic - just because i'm not into that but when i picked this thing up , it has the same vintage vibe as my brother's actual 67 special, if not better. I'm normally not into reclicing for it's own sake but in this case it's like perfectly worn in pair of jeans instead of pair of stiff levis off the rack. Its it worth 4,000 bucks more.. i don't know but i know this one is a keeper for me and i'm pretty picky. I guess it's as close as i'll ever get to owning a vintage SG.

How are the Maestro vibratos? I like vibratos on guitars, but they all feel different and of course, there is also the issue of trying to keep the guitar in tune, but I've never tried a Maestro. I put a Les Trem on my old Les Paul and it works flawlessly, but then I put one on a more modern 335 and the guitar refused to stay in tune, possibly because of the nut, either poorly cut or perhaps it's the material - Coria. So, it's obviously a concern when buying a guitar with a trem system.
@dimitrilaenen20743 жыл бұрын
They’re quite stiff, but alright for a slight vibrato effect. They’re nowhere near as smooth as the Duesenberg Deluxe, which is by far the best and most stable trem system I have played. The maestro vibrola does affect the general sound of the SG (very audible when playing unplugged) in a good way and mine stays in tune just fine. Of course a bit of nut sauce helps a great deal.

Funny thing the SG init. Literally two of the most influential guitarists EVER play it, pretty much exclusively, but it's always seen as the Les Paul's ugly second cousin. When you listen to a good SG you get that "bright" Les Paul sound from one. The sound that all the people who have been lucky enough to play an actual 50's Les Paul tell you is "the sound". Anyway, love the Phelam blue, can't afford it....
