Remember when Gibson guitars said "People are gonna see a whole new level of quality" ?
Well this is certainly a new level. A Les Paul with a hair in the finish!
This is a little look at the quality control Gibson had in late 2019.

Perfectly normal in a OSHA Approved spay booth that uses state of the art systems to pull the fumes away from the operator and work area before scrubbing the air of all particulate matter and fumes. A guitar that costs more than 2 grand needs to be absolutely perfect. @@Wargasm54 Maybe not for him. But in terms of quality Gibson screwed up. And that even after they changed to a new CEO and promised us they would do better. And it still happens. Around 2 months ago, Glenn from Spectresoundstudios bought a brand new Dave Mustaine Signature Flying V for $2800 and it had a flawed finish. A flawed finish that would have been acceptable on a $400 guitar, but not one with a price point at which you might as well save up a little more for a custom shop instrument. And the fact that it was a signature model, makes it even more embarrassing. Glenn (in this case the singer of WALKER and owner of this Les Paul) may find it unique (because it is) and cool, but to many others, it’s a deal breaker. It would definitely be for me since $2000 is a lot of money. Just because he is okay with the flaw, doesn't mean it is generally acceptable. More power to him for keeping it and having fun. I am not judging people based on the guitars they have.
@Wargasm54
@Wargasm54 2 жыл бұрын
@@CedricsSpecialLP if it’s not acceptable, he can take it back. Gibson stands behind their products. I have 4 Gibson Les Paul’s. 2 of which are custom shop guitars. And they are all flawless. What cracks me up is people buying Gibson guitars and then complain about them. If you didn’t like the guitar, why the hell would you drop 2k+ on it?! Idiotic. I’m not a Gibson dick rider, I love my Japanese built ESP’s also. I also have Ibanez, Schecter, Dean, a few LTD’s and one Squier that is actually a kickass guitar. Just seems like the Gibson hate train is always full of clowns. Does Gibson put out bad guitars here and there? Yeah. Every company has put out their fair share of duds. Should Gibson tighten up their QA for the prices their charging? Yeah. But the bottom line is, if you’re going to pay over 2 grand for any guitar, you should probably go play it first . And if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. This guy bought the guitar, and even with a hair in the finish, he would rather keep it than swap it for a new one. What does that tell you? No matter how bad the QA is on Gibson, they play well and sound badass. You want perfection, buy an ESP. You want a guitar that sounds like nothing else on planet earth, and plays great, get a Gibson Les Paul. Nitro finished guitars are much more difficult to make and finish than poly finished guitars. I personally prefer poly for durability. But it’s a compromise I’m willing to make for a Gibson Les Paul. Not everyone is the same. If you don’t like Gibson’s, don’t buy one. Pretty simple really.

I thought it just needed the "fender tap" but no, it was much more serious. That absolutely should have been noticed. I also bought an American Pro II Strat where the nut pinged like MAD with the slightest tough of a tuning machine or trem. It was unplayable and needed a new nut (too low to be re-cut). It's a rare hairburst reissue. It's follicly well endowned. It is a chest hair from the great Les Paul himself, cryogenically preserved so it could eventually be carefully installed into the cleft of the top. It adds a certain hirsute quality to the tone, as it is in fact, tonehair. It was destined for the Zeppelin-esque guitar god who accidentally choked on on a Bear hair whilst singing Disney's "Hair Necessities" at a Barber Shop Quintet gig. The guitar therefore found itself in the bald hands of Rory Gallagher's secret love child, nicknamed Bigwig.

Years ago I bought a Harley Davidson Night Rod Special. In guitar terms the Gibson amongst the motor cycles. Like a Les Paul, it didn't come cheap. After two days I discovered a thumb print under the clear coat of the rear fender. When I went back to the shop where I bought it they refused to accept my claim. Both companies are comparable in many ways. They sell you a dream, carefully constructed by marketing people. I have watched Gibson CEO James Curley closely since he started at Gibson, giving him the benefit of the doubt. I think he is totally fake. Look the way he dresses, my God, grow up man. In interviews he says all the right things, but he doesn't deliver on it. Sounds familiar? It is called marketing. He spent his career at Mars, how much do you pay for a lump of sugar? Apparel and sportswear, how much do people pay these days for a pair of Jean's made abroad that cost a few bucks to produce? People wake up! When Pat Metheny was interviewed about his trip to Poland he told the story of how the people in the Radio studio in Warsaw put a crappy noname guitar in his lap, connected to an even crappier Soviet tube amplifier, requesting him to play something for the listeners. Out of courtesy he obliged. Poor Pat, used to playing different vintage Gibson ES guitars amongst others, was terrified that he blew it. Later when he heard himself back on the radio, he could not tell the difference from normal performances. That made him think, and it should make us all think. We are sold a dream about legacy, craftsmanship and tone wood by shrude business men that pretend to be on our side. All crap, like Harley Davidson they are only in it for the money (paraphrasing Frank Zappa). Customers don't matter, and judging from your video, the health of their employees doesn't matter to them either. They are a means to creating share holders value. And don't get me started on pedal boards, Dumble amplifiers and stuff like that. If I would have spent half of my equipment's value on a decent guitar teacher, I would sound much better today. I will let you in on a secret. When I bought my tube amplifier collection years ago, I took a real good guitar player with me and listened to the sound while he was playing, just to be sure the amp was capable of a truly great sound. Today I'm still not even close. Not convinced? Look up the video of Brian May and the story of his DIY guitar, and the Deacy Amp. I rest my case.

That's why Royal Enfield owners are happier people. :P Jokes aside, I've started building my own guitars. I think guitars are overpriced generally and for 250/300 bucks you can assemble something that will get you there and is unique. I think a fair price for a well built factory guitar should be about 500/600 bucks. The entry level stuff that is sufficient has all the problems that come with cheap labour so there should be a decent middle ground at that price range (this is something I'd say people should be obliged to research themselves) Look at Tim Sway, he literally builds guitars out of trash and they sound great. His building philosophy is good too.

You can't go wrong with Godin guitars. I own three of them, a relatively inexpensive Art & Lutherie Wild Cherry acoustic that I bought for $200 on an introductory special (they later went up to almost $400 Canadian), a 1993 Godin Artisan St 1 Ultimate super Strat ($1,200 Canadian new, but I got mine used for $750 Canadian in 1998), and a 2020 Godin Radiator Trans Cream which was $799 Canadian on introductory special (now selling for $1,080) and there's not a single flaw...or hair, for that matter...on any of them! Simply put, they are all superb players-grade instruments with great tone, easy playing, and are made entirely in Canada by the skilled artisans of Godin Guitars. (They also make better LP's than Gibson does, with their top of the line Summit carved top series.)😉 The Wild Cherry (as its name would suggest) is primarily made of wild cherry wood, with spruce bracing, a hard rock maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard; the Artisan has an American linden body with a German carved birdseye maple top and neck with an ebony fingerboard; the Radiator has a silverleaf maple body and neck, deep tenon set neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and a dark brown tortoiseshell Formica top covering a deeply hollowed out body, with a matching veneer on the 3x3 headstock. It is also one of the most naturally resonant guitars I've ever played in over 40 years, and I play it more often than I do my 1991 PRS Custom 24, that's how flamin' great it is!😉

To be fair, this is a one-off. We can all say "I've never seen a guitar with a hair in the finish before" basically because it's a rarity even with companies with lesser quality control, and even Glen himself hadn't previously noticed. I think it's great and I love Glen's attitude. Fun video all round, he's got himself a unique guitar there and he plays it well.

I gave Gibson 2 chances to fulfil on giving me a flawless guitar with no qc issues. Both had significant cosmetic damage. Turns out people aren’t lying about Gibson. Just like you I thought these guitars with qc issues were a one off. Then I tried the brand.

I understand mistakes can be made during the production process but how in the hell do these guitars make it past QC??? Gibson has shown that the QC paper that comes with their guitars is as useless as white crayon. I actually used to want a Gibson but paying thousands for this??? No way.

@@sixslinger9951 I personally don't care for the way JB or JC( president) of Gibson said as a company made all these initial claims of how much better Gibson was going to be from this day forward.(after filing for a bankruptcy protection) Turns out none of what he claims has be proven to be true! Consistency is not their strong point and that's 😢 if you would care to do some research. From 2019 to 2022 Gibson has the highest customer dissatisfaction rate any guitar manufacturer to date! You can like Gibson all you want. Not hating on Gibson only speaking about the facts that I know about.
