I personally believe Buckethead is a Japanese guitar prodigy whom would never have earned such fame if he didnt use a stage persona - as AMAZING Japanese artists have more trouble getting global exposure even if they deserve it just because they're Asian.

They keep him alive as a sort of experiment, to see for how long can someone survive in that state. Initially, the military men and the doctors believed that the guy wasn't even capable of experiencing life. In the movie they say that it is impossible for him to experience pain, pleasure, memory, breathe or thought, that he would be as unfeeling, as unthinking as the dead until the day he joins them. How wrong they were.

I'll be try to be an informative subscriber in this one. "One" is from And Justice for All album from 1988. It's a fist album (4th in total) with a new bass player - Jason Newsted (previously from band Floatsam and Jetsam). Sadly their first basist, Cliff Burton died in an bus accident in Sweden (he took a bad bed, which he won in some sort of a game). Now you can ask yourself why this bass is so behind... Couple years after there were a new mix done (not official) called And Justice for Jason with bass enhanced. You can try listen to it -- easly to find on YT (I'm a basist btw.;))

Excellent discussion! The comments have given a bunch of great suggestions. As a Metallica fan since the 80s, here's my two cents, broken into different categories depending on what you prefer. It was actually really tough to limit it to 20 - I did a mix of essentials & underrated gems. And I'd recommend only lyric videos unless noted bc their MVs can get distracting: - Epic: Fade to Black; Master of Puppets; Halo on Fire (MV version); Fixxxer - Thrashers: Spit Out the Bone; Battery (live in Seattle 1989); Fight Fire With Fire; Disposable Heroes - Mid-tempo thumpers: For Whom the Bell Tolls; The Unnamed Feeling; Broken, Beat & Scarred; The Shortest Straw - Ballads: Nothing Else Matters (S&M orchestral version); The Unforgiven trilogy - Radio-friendly: Turn the Page (MV); Hero of the Day (S&M version); Enter Sandman (live in Moscow 1991) - Instrumentals: To Live is to Die

Hey! About that footage in the videoclip: It's from a movie called "Johnny got his gun" from 1971 I think. It's about a young man who goes to war and steps on a mine. The explosion leves him armless and legless and destroys almost all his head. He loseshis jaw, his eyes and ears in the explosion and the doctors keep him alive to make experiments, not knowing (nor wanting to check either I think) that he is still alive. Sorry for bad English, not my mother tongue. Great video!

First time watching you and definitively loved your style so I already subscribed and will watch more of your videos. Now for this video: This song/video is based on the book "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo and the movie by the same name directed by... Dalton Trumbo. Movie goes into (obviously) much more detail on what happens here, but a little summary (though obviously you may already know), it is a story about a man who goes to war and, basically, ends up receiving the full blast of a bomb and ends up as a "vegetable" (as the military in the film think). He ends up losing all his limbs and face (literally he says it in the movie that he feels "moist" around all his face and describes that he "senses" that his face has been "scooped" from the upper part of his eyes, all the way down to below his chin). And as he is trapped he hallucinates and his mind starts wandering off between hallucinations and reality (at some point he has a dream about Jesus playing cards with WWI victims and telling them to get into the Soul Train). It IS a chilling movie. I would love you could watch it and react to it, I'm sure it'll make you cry (I'm a High School teacher and I showed it to my students and they were shocked at the end). Awesome reaction and I'll check the rest of the channel!

The guitar is pain the drums are desperation the rhythm is the pace of the story "keep the home fires burning while the heart's still yearning" is what they sing of the soldiers gone to war. It's from a movie called Johnny got his gun. The point is the boy in Johnny got his gun, is never killed. The nurse that tried to kill him in the video is fired, and his only pleasure of her getting him out in the sun is gone with her, as he continues on. Metallica really wanted to rub social problems in the face of people, cause they were sick with the scene at the time. A song I always thought was for PTSD was For whom the bell tolls, but it turns out it's also pretty literal. They have a lot of songs about war and mental problems, drugs, and so on. Also, yeah, they didn't handle Cliff's passing in the healthiest of ways, hence why the bass here is practically non-existent.

Almost right. You made great observations and I like that you analyze the lyrics. The inspiration for the song is the anti-war novel Johnny Got His Gun written in 1938 and the 1971 film adaptation. The film footage is from "Johnny Got His Gun", a movie adapted from a novel of the same name by famous author/screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. As you surmised, it is about a soldier in World War I who gets hideously maimed and eventually goes insane from the isolation of being trapped inside himself. James Hetfield read the book as a young man and it inspired this song. Metallica actually bought out the rights to the movie so that they could use it for the video without having to pay royalty fees. This is the third of three straight absolute masterpiece albums by Metallica (the others being "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets"). Honestly, any song of these three albums are classics. The songs in them have multi-part structures, tell intense, emotional stories, and feature amazingly elaborate musical arrangements. You should check out the live version of Creeping Death from Moscow in 1991, it was performed in front of over a million people by some estimates and the performance is legendary.

Weird to see it as an euthanasia question, but it also has a point. I have always watched this video knowing that several million people got disabled in WW1, probably several ten thousands sharing the fate of the young man in the movie. WW2 had several thousands of people being burnt inside of tanks, vehicles and other places. Most of them lost many limbs because of the 3rd degree burns. The Soviets called this people Stalin Samovars. They have been moved to distant facilites so the public does not see them.

Weird story about the bass - this was the first album after the previous bassist died. So for some reason the drummer and the frontman turned down the bass tracks from the new bassist and made the guitars extra heavy. Some people like the production of this album but most people (including me) think it could’ve been so much better with proper production

look up "the bass channel". last year they did a bass cover version of the whole album and its mixed to PERFECTION. its hands down the best version i've ever heard of the album. blows all those other versions where people have tried to boost the bass completely out of the fucking water. i cant recommend listening to it enough.

@@Metal_89 theirs the bass is WAY too loud. Ive tried to listen to it casually a few times, but all i can pay attention to is the bass. and of course, its nice actually hearing it, but it has the opposite effect. now its hard to listen to anything but the bass and vocals.

It is an anti-war song that portrays a World War I soldier who is severely wounded-arms, legs and jaw blown off by a landmine, blind and unable to speak or move-begging God to take his life. His only hope is to devise a way to communicate with the hospital staff. In the music video, he jolts in the hospital bed, spelling "Kill me" in Morse code. The concept is based on the movie Johnny Got His Gun as having a similar theme, and this was the reason it was incorporated into the video. There are three versions of the song video.
