I totally understand your worry over what comes next because I started Harrow the Ninth with no idea what to expect and scared of what could happen, but it's SO GOOD! It's definitely not what you expect and so different (and confusing, but that's part of the charm) but Tamsyn Muir is just raising the bar. It's the best book I've read this year, I swear.

I thought I wasn’t going to like following Harrow in the second book, but now I think I like Harrow just as much as Gideon.

SPOILERS: theres a few reasons why i think gideon will come back fully (i haven't read harrow yet) - the whole series is about necromancy and the limits of it - she like kind of is part of harrow now, and these possession arcs always tend to end with some kind of seperation - there's a lot of mysteries concerning her specifically (all that stuff with her mom) that arent really resolved yet

The sixth just came in swept all of our hearts and left devastation on their wake. I loved Palamedis so much, he reminded me so much of Sazed from the Final Empire 🥺 I luv em But yes Harrow and Gideon destroyed me at the end

Okay, I’m really happy to see more people reading Gideon, I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I read it back in June. I was also very hesitant to read Harrow because of the reviews, and I struggled so hard for the first 200 pages, I actually got stuck there for like two weeks. And then I finished the last 300 in a day because I couldn’t put it down. The tone is definitely different for a good part of it, there’s less humor and it feels even darker, it made me very anxious sometimes, so maybe take that into consideration. But I do think it’s worth getting through it to get to the last half, like many people said, even if you need to take long breaks in between. It’s not an easy book, but it’s a good one, and it deals with some of your concerns in very interesting ways.

I loved Harrow the Ninth, even though I spent more than half the book being like "what on earth is going on?!". Everything comes together so satisfyingly in the end, and I loved the new characters and grew to love the old characters (many of whom feature more than you would expect!) even more. It's a fair bit darker and there's far less Gideon, but there's still a lot of humour to break up the darkness. I can see why people don't like the book (you have to be OK with being confused) but for me it was a super fun, wild ride and I seriously can't wait for Alecto the Ninth.

Without spoilers I would remind you this is a book series about necromancy, so death might not be handled in the same way as other books.. you should totally read harrow the ninth. It’s absolutely crazy but I loved it. Fair warning- it is tough to get through for some people- you have to trust Muir to get you where she is taking you. You will be confused for most of it. But the ending is fantastic and I enjoyed the ride.

Book 2 is absolutely unreal. Everything you think you might know about what it'll hold is wildly, incredibly incorrect lmao. But that's why I ended up loving it. I know that's also why some people hate it. Going in without expectations is the best, and I think it'll lead to enjoyment. Book 2 is also unlike anything I have EVER read. It was a goddamn wild ride.

Favorite scene? “I have tried to dismantle you, Gideon Nav! The Ninth House poisoned you, we trod you underfoot-I took you to this killing field as my slave-you refuse to die, and you pity me! Strike me down. You’ve won. I’ve lived my whole wretched life at your mercy, yours alone, and God knows I deserve to die at your hand. You are my only friend. I am undone without you.” I'm still reeling

There were so many fun characters in the book! I loved how the teens thought Gideon was all cool and aloof and then she started talking and they were like 'what'. Gideon's humour definitely worked by making the story not as serious, good stuff. I'm the same with the end that I thought it got a bit muddled, in my case because I don't care for big explodey action scenes, especially at the end of a book. I'm currently a 100 pages into Harrow, and I love it so far.

I read this along with the audiobook and the narrator was THE BEST! Would recommend if you're not a native English speaker like me, it helped a lot with understanding what was going on. I LOVED the twists and the ending!

The death of the terrible teens from fourth fucking wrecked me when I was reading it, because even though I knew that it was basically a locked room murder mystery I was hoping that they'd make it out ok

No spoilers, but Harrow the Ninth was incredible. Really damn weird? I definitely spent a significant portion of the book just whispering "what the fuuuuuck" every couple pages. But I loved it.

Harrow the Ninth is amazing but needs a huge trigger warning for dissociative states, schizophrenia-adjacent disorder, and PTSD (the mental illness rep is based on Muir's own conditions but can be hard to read at times). If you loved Harrow in book one, you'll probably love the sequel too!

I loved this book! It’s also super refreshing to hear someone else who loved it talk about reasons they might not continue. I want to read Harrow the Ninth, but I’m also nervous about it because I don’t want to read sadness for sadness’ sake. If the sequel is gonna make me sad, I want there to be a payoff for it.

Having read Harrow: you definitely do want to read more, right now, while it's all still fresh for you. It IS a trilogy, so the tease is strong, but yes.

I’m so glad you enjoyed Gideon the Ninth. I read it back in January and it’s still one of my favorite books of the year. Can’t wait to get my hands on Harrow the Ninth from my library. That ending had me STRESSED.

I just finished it and came immediately to this video to see what you thought. Aesthetically, this was set in what is basically the inside of my brain, very into it. Gideon was so funny, which I would normally not be into in a necromancy world but it was placed really well and wasn't overbearing. I have Harrow & Nona's books, and will likely pick them up soon after a bit of a break -- that was a LOT! a lot of very intense fights and heavy world / magic building. I really liked it.

I loved lesbian rep in this so much it was so interesting so many of les/bi girl rep in media is very bland and "soft" this was different. Gideon has the same sense of humor as me so it was even better 😅i will read second book for sure but i'm also worried , i hope i like it

I absolutely loved Gideon Nav, and Gideon the Ninth is one of my favorite books of all time! When I reached the ending, I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the next book just because I was so heartbroken with what had happened at the end, but I decided I should read the second book to see for myself. The second book is like a puzzle, where all the pieces finally start to click together as you near the end, and the payoff is absolutely amazing. I also love the way the author dealt with trauma and PTSD in the book, and she actually draws a lot from her own struggles with mental health. I can't say more without spoilers, but it was an absolutely amazing book, and very different from what you'd expect (or at least different from what I expected, in the best way possible)

Read Harrow. So good. You’re gonna be hella confused for like 90% of it but it’s such a strong middle book for a trilogy.

I really think you'll like Harrow as well, the beginning is a bit confusing cause she's in not a great place but after that it really is worth it. I didn't like one plot choice towards the end but that's it. The rest of it was great. Soup! I'd recommend reading it closer to the release of Alecto though. We're not getting it before the 2022. And , while HtN answers lots of things from GtN it also leaves so many things for the finale and it would be better reading them close together. Also I agree completely and Camila is everything!

I'm THRILLED you were able to enjoy this book! I know how dramatically different the same thing can be when your brain in on anxiety or not. Ain't it great! LOL Ok, NO SPOILERS- My Honey and I just finished books 1 & 2 last night, with book 1 being a reread for me. Gideon was even MORE fun the second time 😻 I can understand why some fans of book 1 weren't enamored with 2, because it's a total trip, confusing and weird as hell. BUT we felt like it was so worth it! These characters creep in and steal your heart, and the bigger story, this bizarro world, is a really fascinating. So. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend reading book 2. I'm dying to find out what on earth will be in book 3. We'll NEVER guess what new things the author has invented for us inside her beautiful, dark, demented brain 👍👍
