The redundant gimping in front of the thumb ramp could be ground off to a 90 degree spine allowing the knife to be used for a fire steel. While this is clearly not a wilderness survival knife, I think that it would take a small and useless area and give it that one more function. Otherwise, love it.

Excellent review. I would be tempted to buy it if it wasn't for the ramp on the spine but I'm sure this knife is appealing to those it is designed for.

Say Heah Aaron, I have a Vintage C. R. K. T. in AUS8A, it's about a 5" blade sort of a Tanto but Chisel Grind, It's a perfect knife to make fireboards with, a good wood splitter, I'll have to look at it to tell the name, I can't think of it off hand but, yeah, a good one if fireboards are your bag, and it's similar to yours. ,, .

Good review. I just purchased this $55 from Amazon. I watched some reviews of this knife and the others didn't seem to understand that this knife is not a survival or Bush knife. Knives are tools and one needs the right knife for the right job. That said I like that this is not a huge knife. My next survival knife will be the K Bar Becker B2.

Nice knife! I wonder why it is not a flatgrind, wouldn't it be better for the cutting edge, or does this V-shaped grind save the top part of the knife making it a prybar?

Well done video, we don't agree about the price, but we agree on the knife. As soon as I saw it, I ordered it because I could see the emphasis (ugly) on the ergo's. I haven't tested it out yet, what kind of stabbing tests do you do? Thanks and great video.

As usual the best review in Ytube. I like it. I like it because it is ugly and functional. It reminds me of my AMC Gremlin. It was ugly, but it worked and it was dependable. I agree the price should be a in the $40-50 range. I still might fork out the $55 for it.

Definitely a FUGLY little knife but it does seem like a decent little fighter. I would have liked to see the 1095 that KA-BAR uses since they had a hand in it. Personally, I might buy it for the collection but I think my Seal Team Elite and Seal Strike will continue to be my primary tactical blades

I like it...but I don't like it $55 worth. If the price comes down to $35 maybe. Too many made in Taiwan Schrade that are as good for around the $35 range. My take on it is they wanted the Ka-Bar name only for marketing.

Love the ramp, jimping, and hilt. Brilliant there. Paracord handle, nope. Blade shape, nope. Exposed sharp ends at the tail, nope. And $60 for Tiawanese craftsmanship, hell nope. They have a good idea here, but i'd call this knife a fail.

Hello. Since you mentioned the Military, and what those you have spoken to within the Military think,I thought I would offer my thoughts. What are my qualifications? I have just under 28 years in the US Army,starting out in a Long Range Surveillance Detachment within a Infantry Division,then from there, the remainder of time has been spent within USASOC and Special Forces/Special Operations units,as communications and then switching over to medic. A knife is a tool. Just as you wouldn't use a screwdriver to drive a nail, you need the right knife for the job as well. And, certain cultures (like Afghanistan),in different parts of the world are blade oriented,and as such,the bigger and/or more unusual are better to carry. I have carried a custom John Ek knife since 1986 as my primary "oh shit"/fighting knife. Along with it I have always had a minimum of 2 folders on me as well,at least one a Emerson (Have wanted a CQC-8 forever, but something always seems to come up) and the other usually a Spyderco or a RAT folder. But, as of late, I have retired the Ek,because of the age and the fact it WAS custom, AND not made anymore. Sentimental value. I have tried a Becker BK-7, RAT-5,F&S stiletto,a vintage "Aircrew Survival Knife",and a Black Chili by Merxworx (which I broke opening a crate). The knife I finally settled on,(and have carried in 2 tours in Afghanistan) is a vintage-and I mean vintage,WWII 1943 Case sheath knife with a 4.5 inch blade,and stacked leather washer handle.I bought this knife off of Epay, for the whopping price if $11.05! It was beat up, and some idiot had sharpened it on a grinder, but I brought it back to life,and am I ever glad I did. The thing is great. I rave about it to everyone I can find who will listen. The definitely DON'T make them like this anymore. It is the best balances, best built knife I have ever handled. It is proof that you don't need to have a 1" thick piece of metal,which seems to be the current trend among knife makers,and one which I hate. The only thing a thick knife is good for is a prybar. They cut in spite of being sharp,not because of it. It really is ridiculous. So, I guess what I would want to impress on any Soldiers reading this and watching video's,is to think about what it will be used for: *For those who DON'T or are not authorized by TO&E to carry a sidearm,what are your chances of engaging the enemy? *How (and where) will you be carrying it? Sadly, 9 times out of 10, the sheath's that come with knives-even more so with "custom" knives, are pure D shit,plain and simple. That's how they make their money...get you to buy their shiny new knife and throw in-if your lucky,a POS sheath-SOME custom makers don't even include a sheath (Merxworx). I have learned,the hard way,that- (A): a good sheath is a MUST, (B): to buy a good aftermarket,quality sheath for a fixed blade knife that either didn't com with one,or that had a shitty sheath is costly,and takes-usually-quite a bit of time. Many times, you have to send YOUR knife to them,which in addition to the time, leaves you without your knife for "X" amount of time. (C): put just as much time into deciding what SHEATH you want as what knife you want! Leather,Kydex,Nylon, or a Combination, each has their pro's and con's. Stay away from plastic sheath's,trust me. My RAT-5 came with a nylon sheath with a plastic sleeve. If it had been a good nylon sheath, it would have been pretty good-only took up a single row of MOLLE,held the knife well, and didn't make any,or rather,much,noise. BUT, it was a shitty nylon sheath,and thin,crappy plastic insert. It failed during a field ex in the Panama Jungle *What will your primary task(s) be? What will you most likely use a knife for? *Do you need a fixed blade knife, or will a folding blade work just as well? Or, would a small prybar,like one of these-www.countycomm.com/titaniumwidgy.html or even this-www.countycomm.com/mideod.html be more appropriate? If you have decided you NEED a fixed blade, fighting/combat knife, remember,your grandfathers,who went to war in the jungles during WWII and engaged in CQC/hand-to-hand combat,did not have 1" thick prybars/knives. Even the F&S, USMC "Raider" knives ect, were only 1/8th thick.And not all had a full tang either. The thinking that the only knife worth a shit is a "full tang" knife is a fallacy. Yes, it is stronger in many cases, but NOT all. USMC K-Bar's, the Aircrew knife I mentioned before,and others are a "Rat-Tail" tang knives,and they hold up fine as long as you are not abusing them, & using them in ways for which they were not designed. I would pit my 1943 Case against anyone else's knife for the role in which it was developed, combat and light cutting tasks (cutting small branches for shelter,clearing firing lanes ect) Please,PLEASE, don't be sucked into the hype that knife makers-both custom & production-throw out there! They are in business to make money,lain and simple. Do some research. Read. Ask questions. And, foremost on the list, I mean,first & foremost,DON'T BUY A KNIFE BECAUSE IT LOOKS "COOL", OR BECAUSE "SO AND SO USES IT"...spend you money,& buy a knife that will work for you,and you alone. And, in the case of the newest knife I bought, the 1943 "Case" fixed blade knife, "they don;t make 'em like that anymore" is so true. Well, I hope this helped someone, especially younger Soldiers. As a Senior Sgt now, my job is to mentor,and pass knowledge-some of which was hard and/or costly to acquire,lol. SFC Craig DOL

@@willb8684 a full tang knife is not a 'be all, end all'. A full tang allows one to abuse it thinking the full tang means it is indestructable. A knife from the war between the states, WWI,WWII, Korea And Vietnam with rat-tail tangs, Partial tang ect ect ect are just as good cutting and combat fighting knives as any full tang knife.
@willb8684
@willb8684 4 жыл бұрын
@@craigallen5963 they did not use rat tail because its just as good it was for ease of manufacturing ...we have come a ways since ww2..and a full tang is more durable..i agree for strait combat use it does not realy matter but most combat knives are used for utility more then combat and for that ill take a full tang all day
