To unlock a tool on the SOG you can partially open another tool that's on the same side of the multitool so you don't have to open the whole multitool to close a tool.

Many many many other multi-tools will work this exact same way, LOL so it's kind of funny that people even think it is a problem anymore. But it never fails you will still have the same line of comments. Because the video mentions the same non-problem.

Great video! My grandson showed me this vid, so we just rewatched again, but last weekend he picked up a CA53W-1 casio calculator watch, in ODG! He just got the pint that you used here. For the wallet, he got a recycled fire fighter wallet in camo? For his small light, he got a coast HX5, which uses a AA battery, which he also has a micro usb AA rechargeable battery for it. For a quick keychain light he uses a small olight I think the brand is called? Has a built in usb plug, twist operated. Along with an emergency whistle on the keychain he also has a small fire striker that hangs off his house keys with these little tools. For his folder knife, he was going to get a mini griptilian, but at 99, he decided to go with a sog terminus that was normally 66, for 29 at a lgs. Lastly, he also bought an Esee Izula II to keep on him as well. After all the craziness thats happened over the last few years, he uses the new ready pack in maroon? from Vertx as his bag? My son and I bought him a premier soft armor insert after all the crap thats happened for safety. And also a dark angel medical kit and 2 spare tq's. He just took an intro med class taught at our local hospital, but he has already taken a stop the bleed class, hes going to be taking another one with a company called fieldcraft? As he will take a few classes with them for other things this summer! Thank you for all the great post!

I always recommend the rat one for low budget folder, an oldie but goodly and the feit mini flashlight 500 Lumens on High & 250 Lumens on Low 1 Hour Run Time on High & 2.5 Hours on Low Pivoting Head with Magnetic Base Includes a Clip for Versatility & Micro USB Charging Cable 3 fir $29 m.00 each last me a year, I’ve bought sogs multiple tools and always went back to Leatherman , but I’ll take a look, I don’t wear a watch as I have this phone I always carry but Casio was my go to 😂 I carry the juice c6 it’s small but I carry it everywhere everyday. You can have the best tool but if it isn’t with you it’s useless 🤷‍♀️ but I think you have some good choices

I wracked my brain trying to stay within your criteria but also afford the difference in watch prices..thankfully the Kershaw CQC-9K is only $33 compared to the $42 for the one you chose so that let's me get the solar casio. And as far as flashlights...yea nothing is more versatile on fuel than the 1L-1AA (AA, AAA, Lithium AA, Lithium AAA, CR123) so it can't be beaten... and the wallet...yea couldn't beat that either! Home run slam dunk! 👌 If I can remove the "defensive" knife constraint, I could find something from ganzo with a crossbar lock I think would be better as a daily carry. But the wave function is essentially the best option for any defense.

Funny, you showed two items in my edc, the power pint, and the larger Emerson. The larger Emerson is totally worth paying the $10 or $12 extra for D2 and another .5 inch of blade. I always carry it. That watch looks totally worth it. I used to use a chums wallet like that except for the window. The Chums wallet was JUST for my keys, so they wouldn't tear up my pocket. My keys eventually got too big for it, though. I use an old squeeze open coin purse for bits and a bit extender for the power pint. I wish the scissors were replaced with a wood saw and yeah a big flathead screwdriver instead of the useless bottle opener that "HAS" to be on EVERY tool for some dumb reason.

I use a Chums wallet to carry very small items. As a mini organizer, it's great. My EDC knife is the Schrade Outback, half serrated, aluminum scales. It's a Delta class Schrade, short, AUS10 Steel. Around 33 bucks.

I really like this type of video with full kits versus individual items -- like you said focused on what different types of people in different career fields could use. At different price points. I would love to see one at a $200-500 somewhere in there budget geared towards outdoor/trade/agriculture career field. I think the sort of kid videos help people who may have just got a new job or started a new type of lifestyle ease into that. They don't necessarily have to do any shopping or thinking just load everything into the cart.

I agree with everything on your list, however, recommend adding a simple Bic lighter. Neither myself or the wife smoke, but the lighter comes in handy almost daily. Campfire start ups in the backyard, lighting wood in the woodstove, melting the ends of paracord, etc. Bic lighters only cost a buck or 2 and are super lightweight, take up a tiny amount of pocket real estate and comes in handy often. Just my .02 cents. Thanks for the video Aaron. Gonna order the SOG multi tool from your link now.

Oh. And you didnt even mention the bit driver. The best part of the SOG. Plus you can use the Leatherman ratchet driver and have a ratchet to use with your bits. If it ever comes back into stock. But the bit driver itself has a little magnet and works great. I just keep one of my wifes hair ties in my pocket and give it a wrap to make the bit driver even more secure. Pretty cool little multi tool.

I really whished more companies would do v2/v3 of their tools like Leatherman with the wave or Victorinox with their swisstools all while perfecting them based on customer feedback. I mean this is exactly the tool that could be a heavy hitter in the small tool category. What I would do to make this tool perfect: 1. Loose the bottle opener (don't need that on a plier based multitool. Just use pliers) 2. Put the medium flathead on the can opener 3. Put the large flathead on the end of the file. It alrady has the cutout on the side, you don't need the nailnick in the end to open it. 3. In place of the bottle opener, put a lock on it like the powerlitre 4. Extend the locking mechanism outside the frame (like in th LM free) and make the tool closing one handed 5. Make the knifes one hand openable. 6. Loose the gimmicky ruler and protractror (these are useless and only there for so that marketing has more tool son their datasheet, but make manufacturing more costly because of the laser etching. Use this budget for something else) 7. Fix the scissors I am happy they didn't put a saw in it, because for such a small package a saw which needs length in order to be good, just wouldn't work. My colleague has a powerlitre which has these exact issues. I have thought about buying this tool, but they need to fix at least half if these issues before I would consider carrying just this instead of the wave.

The Powerpint is great little multitool. It’s my favorite when I don’t want to carry a full size tool. I did grind the end of the bottle opener into a flat head screwdriver though. Very easy to do with a Dremel tool. Just take your time and use a cup of water to dip the tool and not overheat it.

Nice setup 😁 just to comment on your Streamlight warranty I've carried the Streamlight Stylus Pro flashlight in my pocket at work as a mechanic for years and had to warranty it twice. Not because of the light just because it sees it's fair share of abuse 😂 and Streamlight always comes through. They send a replacement, no hassle. I just go through the website and send it in and week or so later they sent a replacement. So anytime a company is true to their warranty and has good customer service I'll mention it when I can. Leatherman was the same way and there's others too. But I have a Klarus tactical flashlight with a 5 year warranty and without a receipt they refused to warranty the product which the switches went tits up in a couple of years just FYI. Anyway 👍 great job!

Dude I carried a Kershaw CQC-4KXL every day for over 6 years before I became a knife nerd😂 Honestly I could still have it as my daily carry and be more than happy with it. But I discovered the knife and EDC communities and wanted to try out *everything*, so the 4KXL got relegated to the shoebox of forgotten knives. 😢 I have recently tried to make a point of bringing it out and carrying it every now and then. Makes me nostalgic. It’s still a great knife for what it is, and I’d easily recommend it to anyone looking to get their first “good knife.” If Emerson made the same design in his US factory I would definitely grab one, but I’ve never seen such a thing.

I'm convinced that EDC carriers are, at the core of their beings, actually D&D players for real world scenarios. I call them Game Theorists, alphabet groups call them Analysts, sheeple call them Conspiracy Theorists/nutjobs, but the process is similar: they either imagine or have experience with a worse case scenario, equip their bags with the proper tools to deal with the scenarios, upgrade their skillsets and knowledge, and pray for the best.

Dang!..that was close. While I still rock an old Fossil money clip/wallet, in my pocket organizer I have the AAA Microstream, SOG Power Point (Satin) and Benchmade 943. I’m not a watch guy but I have been wearing a Garmin Instinct on my trek’s. The big brother to your Emerson, the (4KXL) is with my larger AA Microstream and Leatherman Surge, all in a mini Maxpedition pouch for easy swapping between vehicles.

Can you do a review on Bark River Knives? I really want one, but they are so pricey and I want to see an honest review on them.

That particular Kershaw is one of my favorites. The XL is fun but i find it fairly useless for EDC, lol.

All good stuff . If I actually needed any of more multi tools , lights , etc. I might consider some of those things. I think I'll just wait till what I have now wears out because there will always be something better coming along in the future.

Dig it, very interesting! I’d love to see more videos like this - different price points, different scenarios (one for an ultralight edc especially)! Greetings from Germany!

I like the surefire & streamlight small tactical flashlights with beveled front and rear edges for self defense. The flashlights are great for blinding/stunning an attacker. In NY the use of a knife, even in self defense, will get you in a world of trouble, so I use a hardened self defense pen. I have stayed away from Sog pocket tools because of your criticisms, but this one def looks interesting
