I bought a Swiza D-04 a couple of years ago. The knife has seen some improvements since. The most important improvement has been the bottle opener. The bottom part was excessively long and would go into the bottleneck too deep, easily breaking the bottleneck. I broke three beer bottles before I retired this function once and for all on this knife. The Phillips drive is no longer as pointy, which is another good improvement. The old-style was nearly useless. They also improved the shape of the can opener, which apparently is easier to use now. I've only tried the old one and it isn't as good as the Victorinox can opener either. They've added a hole to attach a lanyard, which doesn't come with a ring. Finally, Swiza has added new implements to its knife line, such as a tick remover and scissors (ambitious design).

I first saw these at my local camping store for about $40. I guess they weren’t selling well, cuz a few weeks later they were on sale for $20. At that price I picked up a couple to try them out. They’re well made, but like you I agree there’s nothing special that’s gonna make me use one in place of my Victorinox knives. Still, they’re not bad, and I hope they keep it up and are able to give Victorinox some competition.

Curious: Can’t you get into a really nice SAK for $40? Tool-wise, this doesn’t even seem to have as much in terms of tools for EDC. I know he said he got it for bush use. But personally, I’d much rather have the full size Phillips #2 on the Tinkerer ($20) than a saw.

I use a Swiza D03 for 'EDC', a Victorinox lock blade for work on game. The Swiza is a bit smaller than the Victorinox, but I prefer the later for skinning and butchering ungulates and predators alike. Did some work on a Mule Deer with the D03, found out that the lock for the blade can be accidentally pushed in course of skinning. This never happened with the Victorinox lock blade. I see good and not so good in both, so I use them for different applications. And what is $ 40 for a folder in the grand whole of things? Many of you spend more per day on cigarettes, alcohol and drugs!

You ought to try a victorinox farmer alox sometime. The handle has great traction, the blade is more robust than a standard SAK, and it has a saw. One of my favorites.

I would give them a go. They are much more comfortable, Victorinox are good but they were pretty plain and never did much, Wenger was a bit more innovative. But Swiza have really been making better designs. Look at the new line of one handed opening line. This something people who e been wanting for ages a 3” one handed opening blade. And Victorinox for over 100 year has still to give us that.
@Hexsyn

I would be very excited to see them distinguish themselves as a competitor by aiming for higher-end materials like titanium and supersteels--I feel like that is really the only way to exist in that market given the juggernaut of production and brand recognition that is Victorinox.

I used Victorinox for the past 50 years for EDC. In service over sea, now in the forest. I found the Swiza #3 a bit smaller than my usual Victorinox to carry in my pocket. Used bot models to work on game. Prefer the somewhat larger Victorinox for that but for EDC the Swiza # 3 and 4 can't be beat. I agree with the uncomfortable hold on the #5.

I carry two , one in my pocket and one in a modified leather 1911 mag pouch , leathermam tool and the. big Swiss army knife with hard wood scales , bigger models all have locking blades which is a must for me , they work well for fishing and hunting , I gutted an elk with it . as a fire I carried one with a serrated main blade , works good when cutting hose in the field . I;ve been carrying a Swiss army for 35 years I look over each model that will suit my needs in the field.

Good review - further: awl breaks as a drill but super wide as a sew tool with very circular small hole phillips sucks looks/feels awesome but in use it is a badly made inbetween size with one side cut down which makes it slip ALOT. Decent pen knife if choose a VERY simple model and use the awl as a box opener.

Not with a locking blade. The victorinox new soldier liner lock is a joke they all have vertical play. Even the military version. Bought one 2 years ago, returned it only to find out 3 others I tried out all had it as well. If your going to install a lock make it lock! Otherwise stick to making slipjoints. Ironically Wenger Evogrip has zero play. Also Ironically Swiza is apparently old Wenger product management.

@@davidsiegel9847 of the new generation? or an old soldier slip joint? I have 2 current generation locking soldiers that came in a lot well used and one newer and one that's the hunter version. The blade play is in the the vertical not side to side. It's a known defect on all the forums. You must have lucked out. Baby that thing, unless you are like most people and it doesn't bother you. I'm simply OCD. If it's a lock the there should be no play up or down.

Nothing wrong with Voctorinox’s steel. I am no expert but had mine years and can still get a razor edge on the blades. It’s held up in terms of durability too. I was considering a non locking one of these but read feedback on forums (from those who have carried for a few years) of scale material wearing and i different customer service from the company (despite a lifetime warranty). I might try one eventually but need to price more competitively as quite expensive and not many places selling them in the UK.

Sad that the designers did not see the issues with the saw etc hanging out like it does, thus causing a hot spot. SAK’s are a life time investment. I have had some of mine for over 40 years of hard use and with some new scabs recently they look new. Not sure if I like the scales as well. First do not seeing them holding up well and like rubber I have seen on other knives get sticky. Secondly the blade lock release button looks like it would tear after time. Maybe do a liner lock, micarda scabs and recess the other tools and they may have a winner.

I just grabbed a Moonwalk D04. I bought a D03 Tick Tool last year and I wasn't happy with it at all; the grind on the blade was utter rubbish. The D04 is a damn fine tool and, while I won't carry this one because it's basically a collector's piece, I'll grab a bigger tool with more tools. That awl is the best I've ever seen on a multi-tool.

The 111mm and 130mm models all lock, and do NOT have the red shiny scales. Many have textured grippy grips. Not true that most Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are shiny red or non-locking. I have many 111mm and 130mm models. Also, there are small models in the Evogrip series with grippy scales and locking blades. Grippy scales and locking blades ARE common with Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. The little red ones are good in their niche. Personally, I texture my red scaled Vics with cross hatching, using sandpaper. Takes a minute or two and gives acceptable grip. Cheers. Thanks for the reviews.

I have been thinking about starting a company for a while but I’m too broke to start a company but if someone out there reads this feel free to rip off this idea: SKINS FOR THE PLASTIC SWISS ARMY KNIFE SCALES. There are several companies that make skins for phones, laptops, etc. Why not make skins for Victorinox Swiss Army knives? If you want to change the texture to make it more grippy, add a textured vinyl skin. If you want to protect it add a skin. If you want to change the color add a skin. If it looks old and scratched up and you care to make it look fresh again add a skin. Awesome idea but alas it doesn’t exist. I hope someone with the financial wherewithal will someday make these.
