The real Wenger is $400.. so this Boker is a bit of a bargain, not crazy about the D2 tho.. For the scales.. find a few different sizes of ball bearings that fit into the flared tubes, center/reposition the scales, put a ball on each side and squeeze it in a vice, move up to the next size ball and repeat. They haven’t come loose yet, but both of my TRC’s have those tube things :/

It’s a shame the strongarm is around 90$ but unfortunately that’s the price we pay for inflation, and the fact that American steel is up some 200% in some cases, compared to a few years ago. Even the cheaper 420hc steel isn’t immune to the effects of a crappy economy.

You can tighten the scales up by using a long tapered punch and tap it gently into barrel pins. That will expand the pins and tighten it up. I like the knife and it's an easy fix although it shouldn't have happened. I'll stick with my Gerber Strongarm and Schrade SCHF42, 42D and SCHF55. Great review as always. Don't know why it didn't show up in my feed until now.👍

I think it’s an excellent budget airplane knife. I don’t fly planes so I wouldn’t need one but it’ll definitely get the job done to extricate from the fuselage and emergency fire etc. It certainly seems durable and it’s not $700-$1k for a vehement MACV SOG. It’s not for me but I think there’s a market for it in the Alaskan bush ✈️ industry.

@@gideonstactical I see that some of the US retailors have it listed at a pretty high price. But many European sites have it for around €120 (which I believe is the same as the Garberg with leather sheath cost). I bought mine at Lamnia in Finland, they have free shipping after $150 and usually delivers to the States within a week. Just in case US retailors don't drop their prices. But Boker US website should have similar prices to Boker DE I hope?

I’ve got one of Dave’s original Pilot knives. Obviously, there are no handle issues there. Mine performs exceptionally well. I’ve also got one of his Trackers which, to be honest, has seriously exceeded my expectations. I’ll be curious to see how Boker handles your issue. Other than that, it looks like they did a good job.

I know you seemed to like Ka Bars Turok, and your review on it was the little nudge i needed to buy it for myself, so i wanted to thank you for that. I have also seen that the Camp Turok is also a thing, and it seemed very good. About an 8inch blade, a very high saber grind, and a nice thick spine so it doesn't chew up your baton. It seems too good for the price, of about half that of an Esse junglas, and it's Ka Bars 1095 Cro Van steel. So if you're ever out of ideas of what knives to review, give it a look, i think it could even be a better option than the BK9, as the sheeth is the same as the Turok one.

G'day Aaron, close but no cigar I reckon. Cant say I've ever had scale issues like that on any knife and yeah the clip is not exactly inspiring. I love the look/utility of flared tube rivets, but handle shift is a significant concern. As a novice knifemaker, I addressed this by using tight tolerances and epoxy to fill any gaps. Boker could just go straight to the epoxy route and probably fix the issue. I do have to wonder if perhaps the brass tube isn't deforming as well...maybe a thicker wall tube or a switch to stainless steel might be in order...

@@6030jdr no, it is when properly heat treated. Import D2 is riding on the coat tails of the steel name but treating it poorly. You are being deceived. Thats the problem. USA d2 heat treatment especially small batch custom is amazing, but not cheap. Asian d2 is basically worse than 8cr13mov.

You should test the sharpness on telephone book paper or other thin paper. All printer paper tells you is that it is not completely dull. I also never saw the point of sawbacks on knives other than for the 'cool factor'. You waste far too much energy trying to use them and would be better off bringing a manual chainsaw, or a silky pocketboy. Plus they make them harder to use for detail work, batoning, or striking a ferro rod.

The sheath and clip are still better than what comes with the boker bark beetle. The bark beetle handle only fits 2mm into the sheath while blade tip is still 1½-2 inches from the bottom of the sheath just floating around. Then there's the belt loop that doesn't stay clipped for more than 5 steps because whoever made the sheaths clearly never actually saw the knife they're for 🤣 not to mention the ergos were horrendous even though it looks like it would be really good

Yeah, the problem with the scales is a problem, given the intended purpose of the knife. Lots of times I consider batoning an unreasonable and unnecessary test of a knife, but in this instance, being able to withstand impact is literally a core design element for the tool's intended use. Big fail.
