I bought a brand new 319 picker a few years after they quit making them. I found it at a dealer while looking at used ones. It was on a pallet and had never been assembled. Then I found an extremely nice 322 husking bed. Then a I think was a 315 sheller. I had it all on a Allis D19. The sheller didn't have the capacity for modern corn yield, and you had to drive slow. Then I got a IH 1026 hydro, and with a triple front end extension, put the picker on it. But that sheller was just to small. I bought a 329 super sheller and spent an entire summer with my grandpa making it work on a mounted picker. We had to make a cross auger for it, and since on a pull picker the gear box is on the picker, I had to put a gear box on the sheller to drive it. But the original NI gear box as is would drive it backwards. So the spline on the main shaft had to be made longer so the gear could be flipped to the other side. The wagon auger had to be stood up straight also. Since it was so heavy I beefed up the sub frame also. It worked perfectly. The big tractor had more than enough power, and the hydro drove it nicely. The only thing that held it back was that if I drove too fast, it would pull the corn out by the roots before it would snap the ears. That was at 5 3/4 mph. Fast enough anyway. It would easily out do a NH TR70 across the fence in my neighbors. I ended up going to a combine and sold the picker and husker. It didn't go far away and idk if it might still be at that farm or not. I still have the Super Sheller that I built with my grandpa though! I kinda wish I had everything back again! That sheller is the only one in existence for a mounted picker as far as I know. 0:00

Like the videos of using older equipment. Takes me back to a simpler life. No cabs, no GPS, no air conditioner. If you made enough the year before or found one cheap at an auction, you could have an umbrella or a heat houser.

I love watching someone else mount a new Idea picker on their tractor , because I still mount one every year on our Farmall M. You're right. It depends on how well you line everything up with how well the picker will mount. Sometimes it will fight you every step of the way. The frame that you were mentioning is called " The sub frame ".

We had mounted NI picker 12 roll bed. Didn’t have sheller unit. Mounted on a 460 farmall diesel. We were on 36” rows. We had a different set of rear wheels mounted up that were real narrow we always switched over to for the picker.

Hi guys love what you guys are doing there. I wish we had a 2 row picker we pick with a new idea one row picker pull type works good until it gets wet on the muck where we usually pick the one wagon follows right in the tractor tracks that pulls a lot easier but our second wagon will pull the picker side ways in the mud. Its going to be a long harvest for us it wet here in Ontario NY

I always enjoy your videos. I remember my dad purchasing a 8 roll NI Picker 2 row narrow pull type, new in 1969, because I was a junior in HS. I remember him talking with a neighbor that had a 12 roll with the sheller unit, before deciding to go with the 8 roll. Dad was not worried about getting a 12 roll for ear corn, as we had a combine he used for soybeans and shelled corn. I don't remember any farmers that had mounted pickers and how long they were produced.

I wasn't alive yet but my dad bought a brand new New Idea 319 with a 12 roll husking bed in 1976ish and had it mounted on a 400 Farmall. We used it every year up until we they burnt up in 2002

Worked for a farmer south of Eau Claire in the sixties. He had the same kind of mounted corn picker that you are using. His tractor was an Allis Chalmers D-17. He especially bought the D-17 with narrow set front wheels to be able to use that corn picker.

Depends on how often it gets blown. Dad use to take air filters like the 86 a soak it in water in the milk house . Once a year but generally air blown. I always thought those mounted pickers were the cats meow.

Hi Gierek farms from Indiana, when I was a kid every time I always wanted to know how they mount a corn picker on a tractor I never how they did that now watching you guys do it i do understand now how you it is done thanks to you guys

Also as far as narrow rows. I'm not sure New Idea ever built a narrow row picker, 1 row is all that will work in narrow rows. However I'm sure JD built a 3 row narrow pull type. A Uni-System would be another option if you wanted narrow rows
