"so many things that Konami could do to get more money, but they simply don't" - strangest thing to me is how we can't get alt arts in this game. Like, for Konami it would basically be a simple, unlockable option to slap another png on a card. Loads of people would throw money on this.
@basicallyrk4018 Жыл бұрын
It could be a matter of how the card database is set up tbh, the refreshing system in place is already inefficient (the game seems to query the db to update the current player's every move, so making the biggest variable for a given player have nearly infinitely more variance could be a limitation)

They'd probably do it like Duel Links, where it counts as its own card with the same name, which seems like it should be a simple copy paste operation with 2 minor changes(one for image change, one for indexing).

You can still play Blue Eyes, Dark Magician, and Exodia for double digit dollars. No deck that runs Black Lotus is under 5 figures. I think it's pretty apt.
@connorhamilton5707 Жыл бұрын
@@dragonboyjgh The point is that Vintage is an extremely expensive format in paper only, with very few players playing it that way. It's the only officially recognized format that doesn't have Black Lotus and the Moxen either banned or not legal, cards that have sadly been promised to never be reprinted again to keep their price high, so of course prices are going to shoot up for that format in paper. You can play Vintage on MTGO and expect to pay less than $800 for a top deck, since the cards aren't in such a limited supply in digital form. Standard, Pioneer, Modern, legacy, and Pauper are much cheaper and more heavily played. Rough prices at this point in time: Standard ~$200-$600 Pioneer ~$200-$800 Modern ~$500-$1,200 Legacy ~$1,200-$10,000 Pauper ~$50-$80 Commander is another popular paper format, but the price varies wildly, due to many factors including that it is often more of a social format than a competitive one. Preconstructed commander decks are usually around $20-$40, so that can be expected as a minimum, and the ceiling is basically as high as you want it to be. Edit: I forgot to add that Legacy, like Vintage, is also mostly played online, where you can get a top deck for under $750. It is expensive in paper, but costs a fraction of what Vintage costs, which is what the above price range was demonstrating.

@@connorhamilton5707 Is any card game not really expensive compared to non-card games? Because hundreds of dollars for a deck still seems really expensive, even if it isn't relative to other card games.
@connorhamilton5707 Жыл бұрын
@@hoodedman6579 It depends, but usually no. While often called trading card games, they are more accurately called collectible card games, and collectibles rise in price as more people desire them. You can attempt to sell your cards once you are done using them, to recoup some of your money, but it is unlikely you will break even. Some games have budget formats that combat all of this to an extent, but it can only go so far. Magic has Pauper for example, a format that only uses cards printed at common at least once, and while commons aren't hard to find overall, some of them are heavily played in other formats as well or just haven't been reprinted, meaning they can occasionally get a little expensive. Even with that though, unless you are trying to bling out your deck, it will be hard to find a common with an affordable copy worth more than $7.50. Decks contain 60 cards minimum and a sideboard contains 15 cards, so even for a top Pauper deck you are likely paying ~$1 per card on average. Something else that isn't covered is the frequency of upgrading you deck. Magic's Standard format constantly has new cards coming and going, as new sets get released, so keeping up with that format is costly. All the other formats are much more resistant to new cards being printed though. You can make a deck and likely only need to upgrade it once a year or less, unless a card that's in your deck gets banned (which doesn't happen that often).
