This is my first proper wipe. Managed to get to 28 on PVP and when PVE launched, lvl 36. In my late 20s and early 30s I noticed a strange situation, having access to good weapons and mods, but terrible ammo. Most were around 30 pen. The only way around it was to either craft blackout M62, SOST, or go SVD for the T-46M. I've had an absolute hell of a time on PVE doing the M80 unlock quest, as you have to take on all the rogues, scavs, and PMC AI that spawn in there. (still haven't completed it) As soon as I hit 36, Prapor has 545 BT, 762x54R BT, SPP, 9x19 PBP, and 762x39 PP. it just opened a whole world of more damage. Kind of feel they should have trickled a little bit of those ammos prior so it didn't feel like such a hard level range to tackle bosses with low 30 pen ammo. Maybe even PBP around lvl 31? would have helped the transition instead of reaching lvl 36 feeling like a sudden casino win. Also, as someone still learning a lot, really appreciate your videos man. They are a huge help getting my head around the armor and ammo stuff.

if you strugle with ammo run scav reserves short run from spawn to extract and tons of spawns for 545 BP BS and PPBS (i most of the time spawn near marked room in corner there are like 10-15 places where ammo spawns on way to heating pipe under 10min if you also loot grenade cases) then if you have prapor 4 barder for waffle aks74u and you are set to go questing disposable loadout also SNB spawns on same places if you are eu region we can go co-op and i show you routes

If you struggle with revision lighthouse in pve, go at night and take a sniper like the sr-25 even with bcp fmj you can easily headshot the rogues and they dont see anything at night

Important what you said at the end, "a little too easy to run the meta gear every raid". Seeing someone with running high tier 7.62 NATO or a SPEAR should be much less common. There's so many cool guns in the game and yet at high levels people only use like 3.

becasuse those who grind for high levels each wipe are usually just PVP players who only ever do quests if they're required for progression, and PVP players want as many high kill raids as possible, and high kill raids require less dying, and dying less requires the use of meta gear for their playstyles

Late reponse, but I think there's a bit more to it. There will ALWAYS be a meta. Doesn't matter if one gun has one less recoil than another, people will use whatever's best. However, with the ammo changes, and recoil changes, you can use more guns that ever. I'm actually running functional looking M4A1's with short barrels, and they're nearly as good as a min/maxed Meta M4. The only meta that annoys me at all is probably just the armor. Most plate carriers *suck* compared to a redut that just covers more of your body for a similar price.

We are running high flesh damage ammo for a few days now and we are having so much fun like almost never before. RD-704 with drum mag and HP ammo, MP5 with RIPs/Quake Makers, RPD with HP ammo, RPK with drums with HP/SP ammo. I'm not saying it is meta, but you should try it, you will definitely have a fun times :D

Armor changes is a big downgrade. The best thing would be having a second smaller hitbox in the middle of thorax which is vital and making outer thorax non-lethal when blacked. Now we are going back to high pen only meta and never being unable to kill someone with lower pen rounds.

And I like being able to use any gun i want and not stuck to some ammo types of couple calibers late wipe. can we talk a minute about how atrocious the 9h+ craft for ammo that doesnt give enough bullets even for one raid? unless bolts of course... Like it only works for players who play like one hour a day, if someone plays more you can basically skip workbench and you won't even notice it much about good ammo tho, the best option is basically farming it all the time, which may not be quite bad, but is luck based, so can be quite infuriating if someone does it specifically to have something to shoot :x

Right now we just have a numbers issue tho, not a system issue. And tweaking numbers is easy as shit. To so far I really like the fact that I don't die from a burst of rat attack. I got ambushed by an enemy, managed to run away, pop pain meds, peak and kill one before dying to the 2nd. They both ran 30-35 pen ammo, I had 37 pen ammo and we all had lvl 4 armor. The enemies didn't die right away and I had to get an aimed headshot to kill the one guy. Frankly, I like this system, it allows me to play aggro and not get punished by campers. And it allows better players to win a fight because it's not over after a 2 second ambush.

Another gun/ammo combo that I have found very effective since the armor changes is a Vector with 9 x 19 RIP rounds. The rounds are fairly easy to obtain and will mow down people in about 5 shots to the legs, and at 11,000 rpm those 5 shots feel way faster than a Spear. It won't pen armor at all so don't be drifting up to the thorax, and even condors or a face shield will make head shots near impossible, but on legs it just liquidates players extremely fast.

Problem is that Plates are incredibly strong against lvl30 and lower ammo and that headshots are not possible either because of the lvl4 cqm mask. Legmeta isn't really viable in most gunfights either as people often don't expose legs when peeking from cover. I think armor damage should be increased for most mid tier bullets (M855, PS, AP6.3, SPP,...)

Frankly I think if we are gunna consider FMJ SX then players should consider 9mm PBP. PBP is a monster coming out of the MP9-N, easily my favorite gun of the wipe, monster RoF and fairly controllable pairs with it's simple modding and low weight. If that isn't your cup of tea the 9mm vector does the job too.

Worth noting with m62 vs m80 is the advantage m80 has in being a non-tracer round. I’ve found that to be a big advantage in midrange fights not giving your opponent obvious direction as to where the shots are coming from, which often evens out the 1 more shot needed for 6+3 armor. CQB is more suited for m62 but then there are faster firing weapons and ammo where just aiming for the head and spraying away is a good tactic, for example 9mm PBP, 6.3AP or M856A1. It really comes down to how you set up your fights

Think Because of how armour works now most heavy body armour (class 5,6) often have plates and soft fabric layer and usually the imtermediate Armour Piercing catridges may go through the plate but it gets caught by the second layer or the damage is medigated to the point where it really hinder's the Time To Kill and that's kind of why we see 7.62x51 or bigger bullets just being used all the time as those rounds even with the damage reduction still do enough damage to have competitive time to kill.

They should’ve buffer lower penn rounds with much more blunt damage and have it be dependent on range. So that in CQB, they can be somewhat more viable while having higher penn rounds be more useful from afar. It’s a nice trade off especially since now most of the bullets are useless late wipe

The armor change itself isn’t a problem. It just means that we need to revert a lot of ammo availability changes back to where they were. That, or keep the armor hitbox changes, allow plates to be stronger but maybe tone down a bit of their tankiness. It’s important that armor feels significant, or else what’s the point of grinding out traders just to get armor that doesn’t feel effective? Why grind traders for ammo that are going to fight against weak armor anyways? It was so sad this wipe that 5.45 AK’s had no good ammo availability. Is it that bad to let me barter for 60 BS per restock when I’m just gonna be shooting M62 or Sig Hybrid instead? 5.45 got a nice buff and is a competent round but they locked it so far behind tasks that most including me don’t even bother. 7.62x39 AK’s had a bullet that was juuuust almost good enough against class 5, but the recoil was a tad bit too high. SMG’s are better now that we can buy PBP/7N31 again, but the armor is reaaaally strong so maybe that just needs a tiny buff. Love that they’ve basically reverted the game back to pre-2020 Tarkov, I still can’t believe it 😂😂 Just need to make most guns viable again, more ammo availability and maybe a slight nerf to armor tankiness/TTK

My hopes for next wipe is lvl 4 armour is the best you can get with 5 being expensive barters and 6 being only found from other armour like the slick and such if this does not happen then at the very least ammo should go down m856a1 goes back to PK3 and m855a1 on PK4 prapor should have lps back to prapor 3 and move some other ammos to prapor 2(PP) and 3(bt and bp as a quest)

If you’ve been playing arena where all of the loadouts are good, then you would know that any bullet that deals at least 35 damage and has 40 pen can 1 shot with a headshot. Any less than 40 and there is a slight chance for a two shot. With that said, since most good helmets and face mask in the game mainly go up to class 4 you want a bullet with 40 pen to guarantee a headshot. 7.62x39 PP is the best option for that since you can buy it from Prapor 4 (lvl36) or fence occasionally. The low cost of the default gun allows you to invest heavily on mods to drastically bring recoil down. Max recoil on an AKM is 70, which is pretty good. If you don’t want to bother with pen, then the best flesh ammo is any bullet that deals at least 70 damage as it will black out any part of the body in 1 shot. High rip ammo that deals more than a 100 is a 5 shot kill to the same limb, however LL1 bullets usually contain very high damage and can achieve the same in 6-7 shots. Learn to play around the meta…

They could easily add more variety by buffing the availability of high twitch ammo for other calibers. Why can I buy Hybrid on traders but can’t buy 5.45 BS or even BP? Worse guns and ammo in 5.45. Think they should add m855a1, 7.62x39 BP and 5.45 BS to max traders. Take SP-6 off the Capturing Outpost quest lock, too. Lil buff on the RD-704 and Mutant would be nice too.

Always a lot of obviously well researched information, but I find the video typically very distracting when the clip playing with your presentations is not much more than a clip of the weapon being used. Maybe a demo of the weapon in use as a conclusion clip? I do like the illustrations / in-game images that you show as you mention them. I also very much like seeing the tables and any other data visualizations you present. Maybe it's just easier to simply add a gameplay clip, but they carry a lot of weight in my enjoyment of this content. They obviously serve as a "I stream", but that's not what I'm here for. I’ve stopped playing after they announced the new edition, but these changes really don’t make me want to come back. I have to stack big pen now? Great it’s the same thing I’ve been doing for like 5-6 years now. The last version of armor was so much fun! Every weapon was good and I completely disagree with people saying better armor was meaningless. As soon as I got V plates I noticed my front plate saving me a lot more. To me, all these changes have done is make it so that instead of everything being viable, you just have to run the absolute best in slot gear (ie only a handful of guns) to kill people fast.

I understand that first version of the armor rework was pretty flawed as well, getting killed from a bullet grazing your armpit was infuriating but one simple change like adding hitboxes for vital organs like people had suggested could have been a much better change.

I really wish they remove class 5/6 from traders/crafts. Or have like one class 5 and one class 6 armor barter that has one of the worst plates of it's class. I wouldn't mind going to kiba and seeking out armor spawns in order to get armor that feels meaningful and effective, if anything it gives more purpose to late-wipe raids when you have no quests or hideout items to look for.

CBJ in my honest opinion, has too many bullets to kill vs no armor targets like scavs. I love mag dumping Killa or Tagilla with .300BLK, but it falls off hard with the longer-range shooting and the flesh damage. Also idk if anyone had this issue, but using basically the same build as the MCX Neptune Spear, but with a swapped foregrip and sight to SE-5 and HHS-1 respectively, the gun acts like I have permanent tremors/trembling hands. Makes ADS slightly more annoying to use, so I ended up selling all 25 of my MCX builds I had in favor of the SA-58, MDR 7.62, G28. SR-25, and Spear .308 group instead of the .300BLK alternative

This may me my controversial take here but I always felt like Armor across the board should be nerfed. Especially towards late-wipe it is just insane how no-brain the kits are that people run. It's always around the same 3-5 guns that always dominate the meta late wipe ( M4, MDR, SR-25/RSASS and now the SPEAR ). The game just becomes a mix of 'did you grind enough to have access to the good stuff?' and just maximum money dumping. The last armor system certainly wasn't the best but the thing I appreciated about it was that it made the meta more loose especially when it comes to the money dumping since lower-pen ammo was way more valueable than it is again now. At this point, we kinda could have passed on the armor rework entirely because with how close this shifts the meta how it was before they added the plating system, nothing has changed. We are just back to running Class 5-6 only late and play maximum pen as possible on as much RPM as you can have.

Think it's because armour works in 2 layers so the BP whilst having a decent damage and pen to deal with class 5 armour plates the back layer of soft armour might reduce the damage or just stop the round completely combine that with slow rate of fire of AKs and Mutant you really have something that can easily get out gunned. combined with shit availiability and restrictions it's not really as good as it once was.

Forgive me, but I thought the whole point of this game was that anyone can kill you. You got ambushed; cry about it, and pull one of your dozen other kits you have in stash/can afford easily. If a casual player has zero chance of winning any engagement with another player after a week, why the fuck would they continue playing?

@@BigBabyGaming100 I agree I think they went full realism with more durable plates and zones but realized that horrible ammo and randomness screwed it. Then they just closed the openings with massively buffed plates leading to an over buffed system. It’s just not grat

I just think raids should have tiers. Like every map could be Tier 1,2,3,4 and only Tier 1,2,3,4 items from the traders, it would also make finding high level ammo in raid that much important and give you a reason to manage your mags in raid other than just spawning with the best stuff and refilling your mags the ammo you spawned in with, it would also help let other weapons be used other than just a spear.

I hope to get a PC this upcoming fall and I really want to play this game. I wouldn’t be able to sink all my time into this because I play on literally every new console and have friends on all of them. I also work, so there isn’t much time reasonably left. But I wouldn’t play to get super far into the wipe or be a PVP master. All I want to do is run around and help people. Be a medic, friend, and maybe an extra gun. This game isn’t people friendly, but I sure could try.

I feel like as a newer player (like my 3rd real wipe) the game has so much ammo and its all so shit... all of the good ammo is so far down the insane grinds that it always feels like if ur not playing the game everyday perfectly for weeks ur just always fighting huge up hill battles because of the great ammo being locked away at lvl 40+. Also ignoring the fact there are ONLY 3-4 guns I feel like this game has so much "bad" guns and ammo and to little "great" guns and ammo. Personally this game needs to just remove a lot of bad ammo or ammo in general and wipe more consistently and quicker

Ammo change is absurd. Now new players have absolutely 0 chances to kill any high level player. Leg meta works only in close combat. Jesus I miss mosin man time.

I personally think the new armor system is great. People complaining now, that only meta weapons and high pen ammo are viable, dont realize, that its late wipe and people are running around with lvl 5 or even lvl 6 armor in their rigs. What do they expect? Being able to kill someone with M855 or AP 6.3? Logically, ammo with 40+ pen is now the way to go. Its gonna be different at the start of next wipe cause people dont have access to these high lvl plates yet and more "low tier" guns and ammo will be viable. In my opinion, people crying about the new Armor system are just upset, that they cant land 3 shots of a shitty bullet on someone for them to drop anymore, but they actually have to aim to get kills.

sorry but the last 3 events (campfires, hustle & keycard) where all SPAMMING out tons of meta loot on stupid AIs months ago you could go out a raid with 6 CQC face masks. then you could walk out as a Tank from shoreline cause you lootet 6 dead bosses. and now you can take a kedr to customs to kill 6 raiders or so and take the VIP exit with 70kg of meta armor and guns.... so why take away the little barter, if the world of tarkov gets shit on with loot every second event anyways?
