Those contra-rotating fans should be de-facto _everywhere_ with two or more paralleled - GPU's, rads, even PC cases. Huge reduction in turbulence and increase in flow (increase in efficiency overall) from having adjacent blades trying to mover the air in opposite directions to each other.

STIRRI has been my go to since they came out. I use the ASM and V3 everyday with good results. They have good deals on AMAZON too but to catch them I use the Honey app. They at one time marked down the 30cc for 15$ and I got 2. Then the ASM 100g jar I got for 20$. Waiting for the V3 to pop up again to get more. Both clean up really easy for me.

I think reflowing comes from the PS3 and XBox 360 repair days. Just REFLOW and REBALL the core, fixes all problems they say.. ignoring the fundamental reasons the consoles were dying to begin with. Though in a lot of cases reballing would fix PS3s, as one of the most common failures was the CPU detaching from the board from intensive heat/wear. But it started the whole buzz of Reballing/Reflowing. Honestly makes me wish GPUs used pins instead of solder balls. Imagine just if GPUs were modular like Motherboards. lol

Reflow works just fine if done the correct way. Fixed over a hundred laptops, dv6000’s, dv9000’s that sold and some are still in the family over a decade still working just fine. Did the same to a few GPU’s I bought for myself during the price gouging days, all work just fine as well years later. The ones that fail are the people sticking them into toaster ovens that don’t get hot enough to begin with and if they are lucky will work but barely. It’s the constant heat cycles along with PCB sag/flex that pops the BGA. It doesn’t fail due to “wear”

@@PrinzessinMaki Hmm I wonder why. I sent my 60gb Fat with backwards compatibility into a repair shop. They reballed the core, replaced any problematic parts that were likely to fail with better ones. They also boosted the fan curves so ya it's louder but helps a lot with the over heating issues that would kill fat PS3s. Still have it, though I mostly only use it for PS2/PS1 gaming anymore. Bought a PS3 Super Slim a year later for games like GTAV. GTAV is what killed the PS3 to begin with. It got super sluggish during the burning high rise mission and then poof.

Gigabyte not having fuses explains what happened to my PC when my gigabyte 3080 ti got fried. The entire PC freezes the moment I login to windows. I had to unplug and replug everything and do a fresh win install. I may have to send you my 3080 ti for repair. It used to crash on only one of the games(ready or not), but I ignored it and just kept restarting the PC until that one time the PC shutdown as if the power went out and then the GPU never worked. VGA light on start. Months later, the GPU decided to work, but one of the 8pin connectors drew a max of 2.93W... 3 weeks later black screen 100% fan speed and the GPU never worked again.

Great job 👍 and i had a little flashback to the time i build my own electronics for the model train hobby. "I only trust things i ruined myself". Back to graphics cards: i have the Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti Aorus Xtreme, and it is pretty fast. And running very hot because the cooling system can`t handle the heat it produces. Runs only good and cool with undervolting, but now i miss the temperature readings. Will test it in another PC soon. Got an used Zotac RTX 2080 Ti, the black one with only 2 fans, and it runs much cooler even without undervolting. When i get and newer card, which ones have fuses? MSI is clear, how about Zotac and Gainward? Which manufacturer would be your choice @northwestrepair ?

From what im reading. Stirri is Amtech now. They have the rights threw parent companies that own the patient when Amtech screwed up buy selling products with labels that were incorrect for what the labels said you were buying. Thats just a little bit of what went wrong with amtech. The reason NRF. Can sell it and. Uy quantity is because Amtech direct made an agreement with NRF to make and sell bulk to them. That's why it's pretty much very fresh batches that they sell.

Great videos. You often work on cards that crash when the driver is loaded in the OS, and usually a reballing of the core is the proper fix. But .. why is it exacly that the card/OS/driver is crashing when the OS generic driver works just fine?
@volentimeh
@volentimeh 2 ай бұрын
Generic driver doesn't "use" all of the pinouts, all the advanced parts of the core, once the driver loads and tries to access the core parts that can't be accessed then crash.
@andersborum9267
@andersborum9267 2 ай бұрын
@@volentimeh it's interesting that most cores apparently fail at the same set of pinouts, repeatedly, as the generic driver just addresses a few of these (as you stated).
