@@BuildOrBuy Hello, hoping you can help. I have a ryzen 7 5800x with a 1660 gpu, 64gb ddr4 3200mhz ram. this is housed in a gigabyte b550 aorus pro-p motherboard with an aorus gen 4 pcie raid card. Currently i have it setup with 1 980 pro m.2 drive in the m.2 slot and 3 980 pro drives installed into the raid card and housed in the pcie 4 slot. my issue i am having is that im trying to set this card up as a secondary data raid0 array and keep the m.2 slot as the primary boot. however the bios recognizes the raid i cannot seem to get it to show up in my computer and in disk manager it shows up as individual drives. when i used the amd raid drivers pre-os installation windows saw it as a raid drive, but when i decided not to make it a boot drive it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate. any tips? Is there a way to install the drivers after the fact?

Hi Dirk, Nice to meet You! Welcome! Glad You found Us! Thankfull We could help! Next time, let's talk Motherboard Chipsets! Appreciate Your Comments! Blessings! Options... You're a candidate for a self Bifurcated AIC. Based on the reality of X570 PCIe Resources, Glotrends Sky. Only Requires 1 x8 PCIe 3.0 Slot. Video on that AIC here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3eaYmBro82ld80 There are NO self Bifurcated cards, as of yet, that work on a x8 PCIe 4.0 Slot. For PCIe 4.0, all Require a x16 Slot, electrically. Dirk, im struggling with the same setup but i cant find the answer in the video - i just cant get my aorus x570 board to show the card, is it in the bios setting somewhere to enable it?
@dirkschindler2869
@dirkschindler2869 3 жыл бұрын
@@metalfacemark Hi Mark, my experience is that the x570 board does not (fully) support the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor Card. The reason is that you need a pci express slot providing 4x4x4x4 (16) lanes support. Only the 1st (or top) pci slot in the x570 board does provide that 4x4x4x4 (16) lanes support. However, usually you will plug in the graphics card into that 1st (top) pci slot. In order to check that, I bought a very simple graphics card (because modern state of the art graphics cards will not fit into the lowest pci slot on the mother board unless you remove the board from the pc case), temprary installed that into the 3rd (the lowest) pci slot on the board and installed the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor Card into the 1st (top) pci slot. In that configuration all four SSDs on the AORUS were displayed. When putting the graphics card back into the 1st (top) pci slot, only two out of four SSDs were displayed. Which is exactly according to the video. Where it is explained that the lanes either 4x4x4x4 or 4x4 are allocated only electronically to the existing hardware pci slots. I changed to the TRX40 main board and everything was fine. Maybe that is not an option for you (due to time or budget). So, think about checking the SSDs from the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor Card directly on your board to asure they are working correctly. Then think if you can be happy with using only 2 SSD cards on the adaptor, which also might give good performance. Next option would be to use the 1st slot for the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor Card and place the graphics card elsewhere. (As mentioned in the video: Not sure if anyone really wants to do that permanently?) Last option, if you want all 16 lanes available for full use of 4 SSDs on the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor Card, will only be to change to another main board (like I did). For the bios settings just try the settings as explained in the video. There should be a setting like 4x4x4x4 for bifurcation on the settings tab. Hope this helps a little... Good luck!

On another note i feel as if getting a board that has 3 PCIE slots that are all x16 are better than getting a board with 4 PCIE slots that is only 2 x16. Because what am i suppose to do with 2 x8 slot in 2021. I would much rather have 3 x16 slots.

Thank you for the knowledge! I was working on a spreadsheet while watching this. Right now, the 520 firecuda has the best price/performance at 2TB. The 530 series is better, but pricey. The Sabrent is a big NO. The one you're using "reaches speeds" of up to 5000 MB/s and is priced at 240 USD. The Seagate 530, "reaches speeds" at 7300 MB/s and is priced the 250 USD. So... @BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy Жыл бұрын
Hi NavySeal2k, And that has not been that long ago! IRQs and UARTs, yes! Now, PCIe Resources! Grounding was recommended by Intel at their Intel Resellers Meetings years ago. Every Motherboard Manufacturer has a Section in the Motherboard Manual with cautions about ESD. We implemented that procedure when We started Building with the X399 Chipset due to reports of Motherboard failures. There was a time when USB Keyboards and Mice could not not be Hot Plugged for the same reason causing USB Port failures. Then. Design changes were implemented to eliminate that risk. Seems Computer Components are more sensitive to ESD than We realized even today. M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drives would fall in that category since they are not Designed to be Hot Swapped. We've had no failures since implementing that procedure. Better safe than sorry. Yes, I've been Building Computers for a while. We also toured the US Robotics factory many years ago, on an off day, and witnessed and experienced what was done about ESD during Manufacturing. Yes in USA! Even then We had to stay 25 feet away from everything. We were in special smocks and booties on a marked path. Floor had a special epoxy coating. The residual effects of ESD are not pleasant. We have many stories of such over the years. We use to have Live Classes Teaching How to Build a Computer. Our largest class We Built 35 Computers. It was a long day and a Successful day. People would drive from 2 hours away to participate. Things change. Experience is the best Teacher. We share what We know. Been Building Computers since 386. Now, no more Live Meetings. Unfortunate. Perception and Perspective.

One thing I would like to add is that if you are going to use a X570 you can use a newer AMD video card and it will support the PCEI 4, so it will still work at full bandwidth in a 8X slot, like a 5700
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Veluth, Saturation of Bandwidth is different. Video cards of past were the driving force then Network interfaces. Now, it's all about NVMe. If You want a x16 Slot for Video and x16 for M.2 NVMe, no. Therefor that leaves a x4 Slot for Video. And yes, it works. And yes, doubt most would notice a performance hit. Thank You for Your Comments. This Video was about answering Subscribers questions. Nice thing about an AMD card, they seem to be flying under the Radar. Downside, for Content Creation, no CUDA Cores! Since most Rendering is 90% CPU, not that big of a deal.

I use to have the MSI AIC adapter (MSI M.2 Xpander-AERO) that came in with the purchase of a MSI X399 Meg Creation motherboard. Based on my experience, I thought it wasn't working when I plugged in one M.2 (As a newbie PC builder, I found out that the M.2 I bought was a SATA, not an NVMe). So I fixed that later on and so far it was great, it keeps the M.2s cool... but here are my problems: The adapter was huge, I know it's all big because of the big fan that makes the M.2s cool. Also, it takes one 4-pin connector just to power the fan, which makes it in the middle of my other power connectors powering my GPU. Last but not least, the noise of the adapter's fan is a bit loud compared to my CPU cooler and case fans, so that was annoying. Ended up selling it, hoping find something as small as that Aorus AIC Adapter. If you are still looking for one, there is a seller that has a lot of them in eBay, but it's only Gen. 3 and not a Gen. 4 AIC.

However, as You have seen the implementation says different, after reading through the double speak. In a nut shell, for the x570, since You have 1 - x8 Slot, You need a self Bifurcated AIC. Glotrends Sky AIC. We have a Video on that. Only PCIe 3.0 at this time. No one else yet has a Self Bifurcated PCIe 4.0 AIC that uses 1 x8 Slot. Thank you so much for making this insightful and instructional content. I tried following your steps for my build which has a Gigabyte TRX40 Xtreme motherboard instead. I had the same issue as you, the Auto bifurcation BIOS setting was not working and my PC was only reading one disk from the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor (I currently have 4 disks in it). I set the bifurcation manually to x4x4x4x4 on the BIOS but after saving and exiting, the PC no longer boots. Can't get past POST, I don't see the BIOS or anything on the screen. The motherboard shows what appears to be "d4" which I looked up on the manual and states is a "PCI resource allocation error. Out of Resources". I also have a Gigabyte Thunderbolt 3 Titan Ridge (latest firmware) and watched your videos on on the "d4" issue you also had. However, after going through the steps of updating the memory allocation and prefetch to 256MB and enabling 4G decoding - I still get "d4" unfortunately. The GPU is an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 10GB and I'm not sure if it matters but the build has 256GB DDR4 RAM. I'm really sad that I couldn't get it working, I saw so many similarities in what was happening with your videos and really thought it would fix my similar issue. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi LA VELADONA, Welcome! I'm honored! Appreciate Your Comments! Two possibilities. 1st Motherboard Bios Update? Step through each one! 2nd Could be what We referred to as a Bus prioritization issue. Meaning the order of the PCIe Devices. GPU has to be next to Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 AIC. And that's a problem the Firmware update should have rectified thus a Bios Update. That's also a problem considering how wide Your GPU is, 3.5 Slots wide I'm guessing. If this is true, then if the Bios Update does not solve this then a 2 Slot GPU will from what We encountered. Crazy, right. To reiterate, GPU and Thunderbolt must be next to each other if the Thunderbolt Firmware did not resolve this and the next Step being a Bios Update. Hope that helps! Keep Us Posted on Your Progress! BTW: Just verified. You're running Bios F4 for Resize Bar. Did You skip any previous Bios Updates like F3? Can't see anything about Bios file sizes without downloading them. And no errata documentation about anything related to Thunderbolt Support. Next step would be Gigabyte support and they will be of no help based on Our experience. 2 Slot GPU alternative. Contact Gigabyte support anyway. This needs a Firmware or Bios resolution. Also... Another thought, 1. Did You Disable CSM? 2. How big is Your PSU?
@laveladona9445
@laveladona9445 2 жыл бұрын
@@BuildOrBuy Hi there! Thanks so much for your detailed response I honestly appreciate it a ton. I followed your advice and tried to update the BIOS of the motherboard. I was on the first BIOS version that came with the motherboard at unboxing (version FA). I tried versions FB and FC of the BIOS and the issue persisted (error "d4" not getting to POST). I moved the PCI slots to have the thunderbolt card next to the GPU but that also didn't fix the issue. I don't have another GPU at my disposal currently to try with a smaller one (but I'm really hoping I can get this working with this one haha). Will definitely share my progress here in case it helps anyone else with a similar build. I've reached out to Gigabyte and hopefully they have an answer that can solve the mystery (crossing my fingers that there isn't anything faulty with any of the parts I purchased - they were all brand new so they shouldn't be but who knows!). One thing I noticed after reading the motherboard manual closely is that there is a "OC_PEG" PCIe Power Connector on the motherboard that provides "auxillary power" to the onboard PCI Express x16 slots" (the motherboard recommends connecting this to the PSU if there are two or more GPUs to "ensure system stability"). I only have one GPU on my build but I decided to connect it just in case. Didn't solve the issue but just mentioning the steps I'm taking. I also disabled CSM. PSU is the be quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 1500W. Update: After multiple hours researching this, I think I may have discovered the issue. I didn't know this but it seems like the Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor has a 8TB total capacity limit. I had a combined 10TB in the AIC adaptor. I only noticed this because I found that there is a Gigabyte AORUS Gen5 16TB AIC Adaptor coming soon. I realized if the upcoming model had a 16TB total capacity then Gen4 must have a lower one. After further looking into it, I believe the Gen4's capacity is 8TB. I currently have two 4TB disks and two 1TB disks in the adaptor. I will remove the 1TB M.2 disks and see if it reads the full 8TB on Auto bifurcation (if not I think I would have to set it to x8x8? since x4x4x4x4 is for 4 disks?)

H@@laveladona9445, Auto Bifurcation does not work but that should not be causing the d4 error, out of PCIe Resources. Set for Manual Bifurcation to see all 4 Drives. Each M.2 NVMe PCIe Drive requires 4 PCIe Lanes no matter speed or capacity. Yes, the PEG Connector PCIe Graphics Power Connector should be connected. Did not know You did not have that Connected. And Your PSU is absolutely sufficient in size. Interesting Disabling CSM did not help. And above 4G Decoding status - ON? So to reiterate, System will Boot with GPU and Titan Thunderbolt 3 as long as X16 Quad card is not installed. In JBOD, capacity nor speed of Drives matters. And that card only supports M.2 NVMe PCIe but NOT M.2 SATA SSDs. And if You have GPU and X16 Quad card installed and NO Thunderbolt, System Boots. The relationship between those 3 cards is the issue. And what We referred to as a Bus prioritization issue is still the problem that neither the Motherboard Bios Update nor the Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 Firmware update have resolved. And that's where You're at. Suggest remove all M.2 Drives on X16 Quad card and see if that matters. The issue is CPU PCIe Lanes. How long ago did You Build? And when did this start?

@@BuildOrBuy The system boots perfectly into Windows after I reset the CMOS/BIOS settings and leave the default (which is Auto for bifurcation) with everything connected (GPU, Thunderbolt card, and AIC Adaptor). The Gen4 AIC Adaptor has currently 10TB of M.2 NVMe SSD (2 of 4TB and 2 of 1TB) but with the default BIOS settings, only 1 of the 4 disks (4TB) in the Adaptor is read and shows up in Windows disk management and AORUS Storage Manager. I realized Auto bifurcation must not be working so I found your video on that and went to the BIOS to set it manual x4x4x4x4 for the second x16 PCie slot (which is where my AIC Adaptor is currently). After making that one change (Auto to x4x4x4x4) the system no longer POST and I could not get to BIOS or Windows. Then I tried everything else. But I'm fortunate that the moment I reset the BIOS settings to default by clearing CMOS on the motherboard, I am back to a working Windows machine (just with only one 4TB of the 10TB inside the AIC Adaptor being read). Yes, CSM is disabled and 4G decoding is on. To clarify, system boots with all three cards. Only one M.2 Drive from Adaptor is read on default Auto bifurcation setting. I update BIOS to x4x4x4x4 for the Adaptor and BOOM no POST or boot. So the main thing causing it not to post is the Auto to x4x4x4x4 bifurcation update for this PCI slot. I built this PC around 5 days ago and have had no issues until I changed Auto bifurcation to x4x4x4x4 in BIOS settings. I installed all the drivers and Windows was working just fine. My only problem was that all the drives on the adaptor were not being read and I tried this BIOs settings change 3 days ago which led me to your videos on this topic. I will try to remove the two 1TB M.2 Drives from the Adaptor first to see if that helps. I'm just not sure if I should set the bifurcation to x8x8 or x4x4x4x4 if the AIC adaptor only has 2 drives in it. I guess I can try both and will report back to help anyone from this experience!

Hi@@laveladona9445, You're trying to do everything at once. You need to isolate and seperate each step. One step at a time. Decide Your priorities before proceeding to the next step. 1. GPU; 2. X16 Quad card, Bifurcated in Bios. Then try Thunderbolt. Then try swapping Thunderbolt with X16 Quad card. To reiterate the CPU PCIe Lanes are not being properly allocated. Remember, each M.2 NVMe PCIe Drive requires 4 CPU PCIe Lanes. Question: Was the X16 Quad card included with Your Motherboard?

Hi bass jace, Yes, You are correct. We're working on Videos to show both of those. Already requested since being mentioned. Weather in Texas slowed us down for a week. Details! You know the answer to that is all in the metrics... Binary vs Decimal. It's all about Marketing! RAID today is more about capacity. We get the questions and do our best to answer them from our perspective. Personally I'm not a fan of this type of RAID. It's too fragile. We're going to do a Video on that too, that is, the different Types of RAID. And maybe Levels of RAID. As an overview of RAID options, Hardware, Hybrid Bios and Software RAID. To get the correct emissivity readings, we have to get the M.2 NVMe PCIe AIC in the same parallel plane as the FLIR. We think we have that covered. We'll test on both the Gigabyte Aorus & ASUS Hyper Quad M.2 NVMe AICs. Next up, as asked by Subscribers, Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update. Thank You for Your Comments!

Hi Salem Jamal, Welcome! Excellent! Glad We could help! That's an interesting question. RAID 2 is not currently implemented. RAID 2 is obsolete. Maybe You meant RAID 1? There are different TYPES and different LEVELS of RAID depending upon the implementation. There are now 4 Types of RAID. 1. O/S RAID. Windows supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5. 2. Hybrid Bios RAID (Bootable) Both AMD and Intel RAID support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10. 3. Hardware RAID. Requires Hardware RAID card like a Broadcom MegaRAID card. A Hardware RAID supports 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60, 1E, 10E. As You can see, a Hardware RAID supports the most Levels of RAID. 4. All of the above are CPU Based RAID. The newest being the 4th type of RAID is GRAID which is a GPU based RAID. The future of RAID. I watched elsewhere that to take full advantage of RAID 0 across 4 NVMe drives, they are better suited to 2 drives from PCIe slot 16_1 and 2 drives from PCIe slot 16_2 because apparently each CCX in the Threadripper favors a particular set of I/O on the motherboard. Have you heard or experienced this? This was a couple years ago with older Threadrippers so maybe the technology or architecture has improved since? Just a curiosity.

Windows is not a Real Time O/S. DPC Latency is an issue, as You well know. And Windows behavior does not help. More on that subject, in another Video! This would be interesting to know on the Threadripper Pro to determine what that System could be capable of at that price point. There was a time when Thermal Recalibration was an issue with spinning drives for Video. Furthermore, I don't know if it's worth the trouble considering the machine could not be put into production while testing. RAID alone can be finicky to setup, not just in RAID per say but in setting up block size. Changing one thing changes everything! We're focused on the totality of the System. Not ideal but possible. From what I've read, riser cables are not reliable. This reminds me of when we changed PATA Drive cables from 40 pin to 80 pin. Don't know yet if same applies. 3. Something I am having trouble researching with this card though, as I am piecing together my new PC and deciding what parts to buy. Does this card make the read and write of the drive faster than what it would be alone in a normal 4.0 m.2 slot? Right now im planning on getting a Crosshair viii dark hero motherboard which has two 4.0 m.2 ports. And for that im going to put in a Sabrent 4TB Rocket Q4 NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 R/W 4900/3500 MB/s, and a Sabrent Rocket Q 8TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 R/W 3300/2900MB/s. But would this adapter card actually give me more read and write speed than they would give me in the on board 4.0 m.2 slots? As Asus says the pcie 4.0 slot have a bandwidth of 8066 MB/s, which is more than the cards say they can do? too many number around to get it straight in my head. also concerned this card wont fit with a water cooled rtx 3090 FE. =P

Hi Slamscape, Let's keep it simple. You have 3 possible ways to connect an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD Drive. Listed by Speed. And that Speed is burst mode! 1. Motherboard M.2 connector to CPU. 2. 1 x16 electrically PCIe M.2 Quad AIC to CPU. If through Chipset. Slower. 3. Motherboard M.2 Connector to Chipset. The main benefit for an M.2 NVMe Quad card is capacity then speed whether JBOD or RAID. Hope that helps! Keep Us posted on Your Progress! Congrats on Your new Build! And the ETX 3090, how many Slots wide?
@Slamscape
@Slamscape 3 жыл бұрын
@@BuildOrBuy That’s what I would have figured. That having the m.2 directly connected to the motherboard would be faster than having an added step in the list. What confused me was people saying they get write speeds with this adaptor card of over 10 gb/s. But now I’m assuming that speed only goes with raid configs? What’s the difference between m.2 connected to cpu vs the chipset? Only thing I can think of is the cpu one is the one located physically closer to the cpu? As for the rtx 3090 fe. Think of a large square brick resting on the motherboard. :P

Hi@@Slamscape, Yes, RAID 0 - What I call, Flying by the seat of our pants RAID! The M.2 connected to CPU is always faster whereas the M.2 connected to Chipset is somewhat neutered since the Chipset is connected to the CPU through more PCIe Lanes either 4 or 8. It's a squeeze. And that's a bottleneck. We should talk more about that in another Video. Our Goal is to Keep it Simple! Brick - If it works, it works! We're always looking for brackets. Hi RockstarSyndrome, Welcome! Great Question! Appreciate Your Comments! That Depends. We have to Qualify Our response. It should not but it might. 1. Does Your Motherboard have a x16 PCIe Slot, electrically not just mechanically? 2. Can that Slot be full Bifurcated from x16 to x4x4x4x4? 3. Does Your CPU have enough PCIe Lanes for that PCIe Resource allocation? If All of the above are true, all will be fine. The next Step would if all 4 Drives are to be Singular as in JBOD - Just a Bunch of Disks or all 4 in RAID. That's why We make these Videos to simplify the Process. Hope that clarification helps! Amazon's Hyper GEN4 Asus card for $70 is covered in reviews that the card won't give them 4 GEN4 drives in their Ryzen build. KZbin never stressed the cpu lane bottle neck on a Ryzen or the reason to want a first gen TR board. Ryzen is16x or 8X 8X that's it. A 3900X or 3950X is more cores but AM4 is still one 16X cpu lanes. Yes! Again You've said something very important after just 2 first minutes of this video. My aim is exactly like you said. I don't mind putting my graphic card in PCI express 4x slot (electrically) cause a GT 1030 doesn't require more right? Besides I don't play games and I only need that card cause unlike Intel CPUs Ryzen 3900X doesn't have an integrated GPU in itself. Because all of that I can use an add-on card and put it into AMD's x570's chipset's only 1 PCI express 4.0 16x electrical slot and have a maximum of 4 nvme cards in there on an add-on card provided that resource management and PCI birification allows it. Am I correct about this?
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Don Jon, You are correct! What's Your Motherboard? I'd like to check out the Specs and verify how Your Motherboard is setup by reading the PDF file. That's not bullet proof but it's a starting point. This is all about how to use that x16 Slot and to keep that Slot at x16 so it does not drop to x8. So far what we've seen, by the AMD Chipset Spec, it works. However, by Motherboard Vendor implementation, it does not. We're seeing only 1 x16 Slot for Video card. As soon as the 2nd x16 Slot is used, the 1st x16 Slot drops to a x8 Slot. Why? Shared PCIe Resources. And that's annoying! We need to verify Slot #3! Otherwise, the only way to use a Quad card on an x570 Motherboard, which is PCIe 4.0, is to use a Self Bifurcated card that works in a x8 Slot. And said card is only PCIe 3.0. Which is another bummer! No one yet makes a x8 card that is PCIe 4.0. Everyone is just now realizing that, including Motherboard Vendors! Go figure. The only way this works would be if You use a CPU that has Video on board. And that stinks! Let's check Your Motherboard to be certain of Slot 3.

What is the cheapest motherboard you can use AORUS Gen4 AIC Adapter?
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cebrayil Qafarli, Great Question! Generically, a Quad card requires a dedicated PCIe X16 Slot, Bifurcated in the Bios from X16 to X4X4X4X4 for Full Bifurcation. That is on a HEDT or Workstation class Motherboard. Some Viewers have used Consumer Desktop Motherboards for this purpose by sacrificing the Video card which can work in a X8 Slot or using Onboard Video if supported by CPU. Doing the math on CPU PCIe Lanes helps Us to understand the situation! In a nutshell, We need more CPU PCIe Lanes than 24. That only allows for 1 - X16 + 1 - X4 (M.2) and 4 Lanes left to connect CPU to Chipset. A HEDT with PCIe 3.0 would be Intel X299 or AMD X399. For PCIe 4.0, AMD TRX40. Both Intel and AMD are abandoning the HEDT. Therefore, the Workstation for PCIe 4.0 would be the AMD WRX80. ASUS has a Bifurcation Chart indicating which Motherboards of theirs can be Fully Bifurcated. ASUS Bifurcation Chart www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1037507/ Hope that helps!

I don't think it's much of a performance hit if at all to move your GPU to an 8x slot especially if its PCIE 4.0 as I don't think GPU have yet to even saturate a 3.0 8x slot. However I don't see anyone needing enough SSDs to warrant using this adapter whilst not needing the capabilities of a true HEDT platform which x570 really isn't, Maybe if x570 had triple channel ram support like x58 did then the HEDT designation would make sense.

Hi Anonymous .A, Agreed on both accounts. Doubt anyone will ever notice a performance difference with Video in a x8 Slot. We have since learned, what the Chipset is capable of and the actual execution of said Chipset are 2 different things. Meaning? While the x570 chipset, on paper, has 1 x16 Slot, that is a shared Resource. How's that? The only way to retain a x16 Slot is to keep the Video on the Processor. No Video card! As this applies to Gigabyte x570 Motherboards, when both the x16 and x8 Slot are populated, they share Resources. The x16 becomes x8. Not a true dedicated x16 Slot which is a real bummer! You'd be surprised how many requests we're getting where Users with x570 chipsets want a Quad card. Not happening if they have a Video card! The requirements are narrow and specific. For example, Motherboard Brand, Model and Revision. Solution? A Self Bifurcated x8 Quad card. Like the Glotrends Sky card here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3eaYmBro82ld80 The only way to know this stuff is to do it!

@@BuildOrBuy Oh yeah I forgot that an NVME drive was default which makes it 4 lanes short, However I guess that isn't a big deal as PCIE 4.0 4x is roughly equal to PCIE 3.0 8x. I find it odd that so many people with x570 would be that interested in a quad nvme card when the drives are still expensive enough that most people would end up paying more on storage than they did on the rest of their x570 system just to practically fill it. Maybe in few years where the systems become secondary machines and SSDs are cheap would it make sense for many users to be interested in a quad nvme card for an x570.

There is a guy on youtube who tested this. PCIE3.0 vs PCIE4.0 for a GPU. No difference at all so I think this will be the same with PCIE4 x8 vs x16. One thing, the AMD 5000's have 20 PCIE lanes directly to the CPU where 4 are already taken for the Chipset. So the x8 and x16 will actually be shared...

Hi Victor, Good to hear from You! Here to help! If You want the fastest... You have 2 Options for RAID. 1. BIOS hybrid RAID. Choose Volume for fastest. 2. Windows RAID. Easiest to configure. Remember: Anything in RAID should exist in 3 places. A Bios hybrid RAID can fail. Although it's the fastest. A Windows RAID can fail but I've never had that happen. Get Your Bios current before creating a hybrid Bios RAID array. Updating the Bios can cause a RAID array to disappear meaning it has to be recreated. We're going to have to do another video on RAID. We did one on the x399 with ASUS Hyper Quad M.2 AIC Revision 1 doing exactly what You want except we show selecting Raid instead of Volume. @BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 3 жыл бұрын
@@rango_unchained Thank You! Appreciate Your Comments! Here to help! Let's cut to the chase from the direction You've just mentioned. You want 2 x16 Slots. That's a HEDT. Or, considering the CPU You have, You want an X570 Motherboard with 1 x16 and 1 x8 Slot. When both Slots are used, because of shared Resources, You end up with 2 x8 slots. Video card x 16 is cut to x8 and NVMe Drive Lanes are cut. Why? Shared PCIe Resources. Your option then would be a self Bifurcated PCIe M.2 NVMe Card. You want PCIe 4.0. Since You have a x8 Slot, You're only going to have access to a self Bifurcated PCIe 3.0 card. There are no self Bifurcated PCIe 4.0 cards that give PCIe 4.0 performance yet. Lots of tradeoffs. The other direction is back to a HEDT x299, x399 TRX40 or WRX80 Motherboard. The chipset is the Foundation of a Motherboard. For 4 NVMe Drives, using what's possible even on the Motherboard like a HEDT, You might have 2 through the CPU and 2 through the Chipset. Four PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD Drive on a Quad card keep them equal in performance since that Slot will either be connected through the CPU or the Chipset. Crazy right. It's just a matter of adding up the PCIe Lanes and figuring out their respective Distribution. I don't think enough is being said about this subject. Seems like lots of smoke and mirrors.

@@BuildOrBuy I decided to try and initiate XMP in BIOS, the profile didn't take, and my poor old RAM is still running at 2133, however it somehow had the side effect of reducing the fan speed on the AIC, I have tried multiple resets, shutdowns, and even PSU power off after shutdown, and the quiet blissful fan speed remains, I wonder if you could perform the same operation to see if you get the same result?

Hi@@tothepoint551, Supposedly, the only way to control the AIC Fan is from Aorus Storage Manager. We have XMP enabled and have not had any problems with the AIC Fan. But since We never installed Aorus Manager, Our AIC Fan also runs full blast. Hope that helps!

There should be a setting called Hyper Quad under the PCIe Slot configuration. I do not see anything about that. ASUS Quad card Compatibility PCIe bifurcation Hyper Quad card www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1037507 From the ASUS link above, Your Chipset will work. Your Motherboard will work. Hi@@kalamarades , There are 2 types of RAID We can create with a Quad card. 1. A Hybrid RAID, which is accomplished from the Motherboard Bios. Bootable! 2. A software RAID, accomplished from the O/S. Not Bootable! 3. A true Hardware RAID requires a Hardware RAID Controller which the Quad cards are not. A Hardware RAID card has its own Bios. Bootable! Hi@@kalamarades , Good question. Easy! You need the Controller Driver. Once Windows sees the Controller, then Windows will be able to see what's on the Controller! The RAID array. Go here: www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-strx4/trx40 Click in the + next to Windows Drivers. Download all three! You need the third Driver. Copy that to a USB Thumb Drive. Hi@@bencrosthwaite3542, You're gaining experience! Practice makes perfect! Good to hear from You! How are things going? Troublesome? 1.) Those Switches are so You can install 3 cards in one Computer. Gigabyte has software to control the Fans. That switch setting allows their software to see each card individually. This would only work on 2 chipsets. An x299 ASUS Workstation Motherboard with PLX Chips or on a Threadripper Pro WRX80 Workstation Motherboard with 7 PCIe Sots. Otherwise, using only 1 PCIe M.2 NVMe Card, leave swiches in default position. 2.) Your Motherboard - X570 AORUS ELITE WIFI Rev 1 www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-ELITE-WIFI-rev-1x#kf 3 PCIe Slots. GPU in PCIe x4 Slot. OK. Look in Your PDF Manual on Page 30. Bifurcation. The x16 Slot must be set for Bifurcation. For PCIe 4.0, that setting should be automatic. If not, manually change that to 4x4. Each NVMe Drive requires 4 PCIe Lanes. Hence a x16 Slot. A Bios update should solve that eventually. Hope that helps! Next time, let's talk chipsets!
