Hi Cyclope, Welcome. Good question. To USB4... Maple Ridge, Titan Ridge then back to Maple Ridge. What a ride. Give it a shot and see what happens. Otherwise, due to the Integration from Chipsets to Bios to Firmwares, we suggest sticking with Manufacturers recommendations. The latest Maple Ridge includes PCIe Tunneling. And that requires Bios integration and a different Driver model. Thunderbolt is great when it works. PITA when it does not. We can thank Intel for the complexity.

Hi@@SiEmon_E, Yes. Define long. SDI for 1080 is good to 300 feet. Yes it can go longer. Suggest a signal booster. Maybe 75 feet of same cable for 4K. Yes that can go longer. Better cable required for signal integrity. A Decimator on each end. The signal converter is the key to signal integrity. Yes, quality cables are essential too. How many cameras. At what distance. Are you going to Live Stream? Do you have the Bandwidth. This is where Fiber is preferred over copper. Test your setup to verify your throughput.

Hi Vinyl Monster, Welcome. Good simple question. Complex Answer... Short Answer? No. Longer Answer, due to the technicalities involved, no way. Your Chipset does not have the hooks for Bios integration with PCIe Tunneling for starters. The Specs on Thunderbolt 3 were loose compared to Specs for Thunderbolt 4. And Thunderbolt 4 has 2 iterations. The 1st of which, due to the changes are different than the 2nd iteration of Thunderbolt 4. If what you have works and does what you need, use it and love it. Thunderbolt either works or does not. If you want Thunderbolt 4, New Build. Built-in obsolescence. You can thank Intel for that. There's a lot more involved but this is enough. Verify according to the compatability List of Chipsets supported and which Thunderbolt card works with which Motherboard.

Hi Jurgen, Welcome. Yes. Good to know this before proceeding further. Appreciate your comments. Those are M.2 NVMe PCIe 5.0 X4 Slot Connectors. Backwards compatible with PCIe 4.0 X4. Use: M.2_1 and M.2_2. Both M.2 Slot Connectors are PCIe 5.0 X4. Only a PCIe Slot could be X8 but NOT a PCIe M.2 Slot Connector which are only X4. Remember all M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drives utilize 4 PCIe Lanes. Whereas as an SSD of any form factor uses only 1 PCIe Lane. That all could change in the not too distant future. An M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD should achieve 3,500MBs/sec per Drive.

@@BuildOrBuy Hi Gill, thank you for getting back to me! Well, I was actually.meaning the two long x16 slots on the ProArt x670 mainboard, so what if I plug two Nvidia RTX 4000 GPU"s in there (you know, each of them got 2 encoding and two decoding chips inside, also for AV1). Will these two GPU boards work at their full bandwidth of 32 GB/s, or will they slow down to 16 GB/s each (=128 Gb/s), cause Gen5 x8 is slowing them down? - This was my initial question. As far as I found out, PCIe Gen4 x4 has a bandwidth of up to 8 GB/s (=64 Gb/s), Gen 5 x4 diubles this to up to 16 GB/s (=128 Gb/s}. Thus corresponds to the storage speeds of recent M.2 NVMe SSD drives. - Using an ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Gen5 PCIe-card, it should be easy to record up to 8 to 10 incoming AV1 encoded 4k60p video streams, each one got a bandwidth of only ~10 Mb/s! As far as I found out, it is also possible to insert a riser cable into an M.2 SSD slot that at its other end features a standard x16-size PCIe slot, with a 8 GB/s bandwidth (64 Gb/s). Same riser cables exist for Gen5 x4, that will give you full 16 GB/s (128 Gb/s) bandwidth! Another technology that can transport full 8GB/s (=64 Gb/s) is called OcuLink. There are m.2 adapters with an Oculink-Plug tbat also connects to an external PCIe-slot, but the Riser-cable seems much simpler and cheaper, ans can also deal with Gen5 x4 speeds. Well, Gill, that's all I found out about these complicated matters, hope my insights can help you or others to get this all together for video streaming and recording. Cheers and thanks again!

Hi MagicCaster, This card requires a X8 Slot and a Motherboard that has Bios Bifurcation capability. For your Motherboard with a X4 Slot, you'll need a Self Bifurcated card. Amfeltec out of Canada can do what you want. But at a steep price.

@@BuildOrBuyI appreciate for your response, sir! Do you mean that this adapter won't likely work for a single drive on a X4 chipset slot? Both primary PCIe 5.0 x16 and x8 slots support bifurcation, but the x16 one is used by a 4 slot GPU and\, hence, the x8 slot is inaccessible.

Hi@@magiccaster-hn7rg , For a Single Drive, Yes.

Hi@@magiccaster-hn7rg, This will do what you want. Focus on the technology. To reiterate, to make full use of this card requires X8. To use this card with 1 Drive, X4. And if you want to utilize 2 Drives on X4 Lanes, Amfeltec from Canada. That's a difference in this card requiring a Motherboard Bios Bifurcation to a Self Bifurcated card.

Awesome video thanks for that Shouldnt these cards just work on any pcie slot (provided they're open in) with reduced speeds of course? I only got one pcie gen 3 4x on my Motherbaord left. Other adapter do that too but i cant use what ive got because the drives are on the front and the back of the plx controler i have here (interferes woth zhe gpu cooler 😅)

Hello BR0KK85, Welcome. Appreciate your comments. Good question. To reiterate what's stated in the Video, this card requires a X16 Slot. With the add-on Adapter, it can work in a X8 Slot. If you only have a X4 Slot, no. They do however make a version that will with reduced drive count. Remember: Each M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drive requires X4 PCIe Lanes. Yes the card is self Bifurcated. Cutting the Lanes will cut performance. How much? Test and Verify. Each application is different. Your results may vary.

Don't defragment your SSD, it is used for hard drives not ssd. By defragmenting ssd you are making ssd to last less and to be hotter. So turn off scheduled optimization.

At any point during this psychotic babbling 30 minutes video does this lunatic actually report the results of the test? As in how much do SSD heatsinks lower temperatures or not?

Hi Robert, Welcome. Code 54 is a Memory Initialization Error. Memory on QVL? To diagnose, break it down to bare essentials then step through.

Hi sir. I was going to buy this Motherboard today but after seeing your video im thinking about it. But since ASUS is the best I guest I can take it, if my GPU will have no probelm sharing lanes with G5 M.2, right?

@LivelysReport
@LivelysReport Ай бұрын
when you did the first test and you had temps of like 49, 53, 49 and 45 I think it was, I would love to have seen you swap the two drives of 53 and 45 temps and see what happens if you run that test again, to see if its the position on the drive which caused the fluctuation of heat or if the drives themselves just run a bit hotter or cooler.. swapping that 53 and 45 drives or if maybe its a combination of the drives and or perhaps the thermal pads which were on them drives which was making the difference in the heat..

quick question is it possible to run a rx 7900 xtx in the first slot which uses 16 pcie lanes, and a second gpu the 4060 uses 8 pcie lanes in the 2nd slot. Is it possible to run two gpu's with their full bandwidth that being the rx 7900 xtx and RTX 4060 in that x670e ACE MSI motherboard ?

@BuildOrBuy Ай бұрын
Hi Volatile, Welcome. Interesting question. Has that worked on a previous Motherboard? You'd have to ask MSI for that specific configuration. A lot of these Consumer Desktop Motherboards will not work with 2 GPUs. Some do. Some don't. Best way to find out is to test and verify.

hello! Thanks for your video, I am considering buying that Asus motherboard to have Thunderbolt4 on my workstation. But I have a question, I have a gigabyte trx40 xtreme motherboard with threadripper 3960x, would it work?
@BuildOrBuy
@BuildOrBuy 2 ай бұрын
Hi Roger, Welcome. Appreciate your comments. Great Question. Doubtful. Why? Vastly different architecture. In Doubt, try it out. See what happens. Probably nothing. Thunderbolt 4 is a tighter Spec than Thunderbolt 3. Each Vendor implementation of Thunderbolt is very specific on which motherboard Chipset they will work. Even Thunderbolt 4 has 2 different sets of Motherboards supported based on Chipsets due to Motherboard Bios integrations. Thunderbolt 4 on the latter Chipsets supports PCIe Tunneling. And Driver model is different. When Thunderbolt works, it works. And when Thunderbolt does not work, PITA. BTW: Good choice in HEDT Workstation Motherboard and Chipset.

Wow’. You expanded my brain! Just got one of these and am a bit confused as to what slot should I use my 4 TB. PCIE M.2 card in? Also, which lane should ai install a sound card on? Realtek just doesn’t do it for me.

Hello White Wolf, Welcome. Crazy, right. A different way of looking at Motherboards based on Resources. Do not use M.2_1. Your Soundcard, which one are you going to utilize? Those other 2 Slots are using Chipset PCIe Lanes. If Bus prioritization is an issue, suggest using Slot 2. GPU will reside in primary Slot using CPU PCIe Lanes.
