I just got the curved version of this monitor, coming from a 27" 2k monitor. Huge difference of course! I watched your video because I was getting a bit frustrated by "black" looking "gray" on my monitor. Finally figured out to change the RGB range setting from auto (or 16-255) to 0-255. Now blacks look black. :) Thanks for this video.

i just bought this monitor, going to use it as part of my home office setup, i am very much interested how it's gonna turn out. I was a bit worried about whether OLED or ips, but 4k ips seemed the best option for mainly productivity usage since i am also an Apple user, also 144hz its a big + for me... mba supports only 60hz

Unless HDR is super important to you, I think you’re gonna love it. I believe you can connect your MBA to the monitor via TB and get the max refresh rate, but which generation of MBA is that?
@nickxvalentinКүн бұрын
@@kimkoh Yes, it should be fine on paper, latest with the m3 chip, base model
@kimkoh19 сағат бұрын
Yeah I’m pretty positive you can achieve 4K @ 144Hz via TB connection. Most people who don’t get max refresh rate connect via HDMI. But AFAIK, even MBA with the M3 chip can drive 4K @ 120Hz (if not more) with HDMI connection :)

I'll be getting XBSX this coming black Friday and I am on a search for a good 4K 32" monitor. I recently learned to stay away from OLED displays because of its burn in & image retention issues. I'll be using the monitor for both gaming and music production (my full-time work) as well as watching movies casually. I have this monitor available in stock at my local shop. After 6 months, what do you think about it? Thanks :)
@kimkohАй бұрын
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I think it depends on what you want - if you need the KVM switch and don't care about the low PD of the USB-C port, this one is pretty good. Otherwise, I'd go for one with higher PD if you want one cable for your laptop. I mainly got this monitor for the KVM switch, but I find myself using the OSD to switch input more often (which makes the KVM switch kinda pointless) so if I were to buy a monitor today, I'd probably explore other options. MSI MAG 322UPF is a great option, for example, but please DYOR 🫡

Do you have any issues with audio pass-thru? Are you passing audio into the monitor via the video signals and then passing it back out via the 3.5mm stereo minijack? I'm planning a similar setup to you, but with a desktop PC, a Dell laptop and a Macbook Pro M1. My plan is to run: - Macbook Pro M1 into a dock that supports DisplayPort over usb-c, then from the dock into the monitor via usb-c - Dell laptop into a Dell dock via USB-C then from the dock to the monitor via HDMI w/ audio - Desktop PC directly into the monitor via HDMI w/audio Then the plan is to simply run a 3.5mm stereo cable from the monitor to my speakers. Will that work under this model?
@kimkoh7 ай бұрын
The speakers I use (Logitech G560) run on a USB connection so I’m not using the audio jack for speakers. I do use it for headphones, though, and it works fine on both macOS and Windows. In theory, your setup should work but I can’t be sure since I haven’t done so.

I been looking hard at purchasing this M32U or the curved M32UC. Other options are Asus tuf gaming VG32UQA1A or the LG UltraGear 32GR93U. I'm a casual ps5 player but would like an awesome monitor to play on in my new game room. Can't decide on curved or not cuse I know curved is va and flat is ips so is one better then the other?
@kimkohКүн бұрын
I’ve never used M32UC so can’t speak about it. But I do have another 32” 4K VA monitor (BenQ EW3270U) at my office and I’ll say 32” is a bit too large to not notice the washed-out-colors issue when viewing from certain angles. It’s my first VA monitor and will likely be the last. YMMV though :)
@johnnypiper1717Күн бұрын
@kimkoh so by getting an ips instead of the VA you saying would be better choice? I always have played on big vizo TV and wanna get a good monitor that gives my ps5 pro and Xbox x the best picture possible an didn't wanna get to small of a monitor since I'm use to the bigger TV size playing.

Hi this was really helpful especially the reddit link to the color calibration thanks! One question, it seems like adjusting the user define colors makes it a bit less bright. Did you find this? Even though its technically meant to be 350 nits it just does not get as bright or seem to match the colors to the macbook the same way that my wife's LG 27UN880p does. Also, don't yet have a PS5/Xbox Series X but thinking about getting one - how big a difference is 60fps vs 120fps? Does it really make that much difference? Thanks!
@kimkoh6 ай бұрын
I just compared sRGB with my Custom profile at the same brightness and I think they have the same brightness. Though I'd say sRGB appears a bit brighter due to the warmer color tone, but I believe they're equally bright in reality. For the next question, I guess it depends the type of games you play. Unfortunately, I haven't played enough (high-FPS) games to be able to answer it, lol. The ones I did play run 60 FPS max.

What version did you get my friend looking to get one, I noticed the ek version has contrast ratio of 1000:1 while the non ek has 3000:1.. yet the ek version is more expensive.. prob cause its 10bit..? What one would you recommend I get ? Just sent back a g7 😅
@mjk3028 күн бұрын
Mainly for ps5 ..
@kimkoh8 күн бұрын
I got M32U. I wanted to get the Arm Edition but it’s not available here. I could be wrong, but I believe the EK version is either a regional model for M32U or just a made-up name by some sellers. The specs are exactly the same - you only get 1000:1 contrast ratio with M32U because it’s an IPS panel. M32UC, on the other hand, has higher contrast ratio (3000:1) because it’s a VA panel. Also, M32U doesn’t have true 10-bit colors. It’s 8-bit + FRC so technically it’s still 8-bit.

Hi Kim! Could you please let me know the length of the HDMI cable and the power cable that come with the M32U? Mine will arrive in the next few days, and I’m preparing to buy new cables if necessary. Thank you very much for your help!
@kimkoh2 ай бұрын
Hey Junior, just measured the HDMI cable and it's about 1.5m long. Power cable is too much hassle to unplug - the cables are a mess right now, so sorry about that. But I believe it's about the same length as well.

is there scaling issue with the mac on text/fonts ? 3840x 2160 or 3840x1600?
@kimkoh2 ай бұрын
It works well with Mac. It's 16:9 ratio, so it'd be 3840x2160 or 3200x1800. But there are other Retina resolutions you can use too.

Also, is the KVM switch a true KVM switch where the computer doesn't think it lost a connection, or do these act like a simple switch and the computer thinks a new monitor was hooked up each time?
@kimkoh7 ай бұрын
I’ve never used a KVM switch before, but like I mentioned in the video, the monitor has issues detecting signal from the other input when it’s inactive or even in sleep mode. When switching from Windows to Mac - if the Mac is in deep sleep, I have to press the on/off button on the Mac Studio to wake it up and vice versa. So perhaps it’s not a “true” KVM switch then?
@NickVincent-q3d7 ай бұрын
@@kimkoh yeah true KVM switches are crazy expensive and it's because they maintain that connection -- or atleast they convince your computers that they're still connected, then it just swaps out the signal as needed. So you could have 3 comps and 1 monitor and all 3 think a monitor is hooked up to them simultaneously (but only 1 controls the actual signal). I think it's called EDID emulation.

It depends. 95% DCI-P3 coverage is good enough for me, but hey, I’m not a professional photographer so I can’t speak for one. If you need really high color accuracy, perhaps LG is a better option :)
