Fly Tying the Dolly Lama Streamer for Large Trout & Salmon

The Dolly Lama has been an Alaska fishery staple for quite some time and anglers in the lower 48 are finally discovering how effective it is for large fish. Olive/White is great for trout. We also like Black/White, all White, and Black/Olive. For salmon, try Pink/Chartreuse and Pink/White.

Any particular reason why you tie on the under side of the stinger? Seen it done both ways but wondering if there is a particular reason for either method

For me it’s tiny dry flies. I feel incredibly unproductive tying size 20 dries when I’ve tied for an hour and have so little to show for it!

Why did u cut the primary hook off? Wouldn't that mess up the hook set? Most fish eat pray head 1st

For trout fishing, since it's mostly catch and release, a single hook is going to be kinder on the fish. I agree with predators eating bait headfirst, especially if there's eyes on it!
