Allen Iverson 2000-2001 season averaged 31.1 PPG which lead all players that year on the 76ers team that averaged 94.7 which was 15th that year as a whole now put that A.I. in today's game where the 30th ranked PPG team (Portland Trail Blazers) is averaging 14 more points than that 76ers squad

@@SamuelJ888 Not true. Russell Westbrook was the MVP, Giannis was the MVP. Jimmy Butler is consistently one of the most dangerous players in the league. Damian Lilliard and Trae Young consistently shoot 42% from the field and are the main guards on their team and have led their teams to success. In that era 32% from 3 was league average similar to 35% in todays game. Its much easier to shoot 40% from 3 when you take 10 attempts as opposed to 4 attempts. Your hit 2 of 4 your 50% from 3 or you miss 1 shot and now your 25% and look like a horrible shooter, whereas the person who took 10 3's missed 6 threes and only hit 4 and is looked at as great. Salute to Brandon for using his brain and not getting caught up in the hype. Averaging 43 points means putting 40 on the board basically every night. There’s a reason guys don’t do it now. It takes too much energy. And it goes against the natural flow of the game. Iverson would be going 1 on 2 or 1 on 3 all game long. That makes no sense. Finally Iverson was not a great shooter. His scoring output came with a lot of missed shots. He’d probably need 40 shots a night to average 43. It’s just not happening;
@stayyourpath
@stayyourpath 2 ай бұрын
You have no idea what you’re talking about, sorry. The reason guys aren’t doing it now is because there’s more talented scorers on the team they play on. AI was an energizer bunny and would put it all on the floor every night so that’s not an issue. And he was being bodied by big, hands on, and aggressive type of defensive play styles so of course his percentage would be lower. You take today’s game with his play and he’s easily dominating.

He gonna play 48 minutes and not get tired? or is he gonna play his career average minutes at a faster rate and not get tired? Prime James Harden was arguably the most unguardable player in NBA history and he played close to 81 games a season and he couldn't get past 36 points. Old geezers on steroids. These guys are rewriting history. Fox, John wall, DRose, WestbrooK super fast, more athletic, bigger than Iverson don't even come close to 35 ppg. Giannis comes at you every possession and he is less than 30. Iverson would be so tired chasing players on defense and getting posted up by bigger guards that he would be throwing up air balls. Coaches would put AI on pick and rolls and post him up to death. AI would be so tired mid season he would load manage.

How does the dribble argument not make sense ? 3 shot attempts in 24 seconds creates more shots and more points than 1 shot attempt every 20 seconds.

aint no way he getting 45, without being a great 3pt shooter, thats like 30+ shots, with 5+ FTs on efficient shooting teammates couldn’t get into a rhythm, and thats just easy target on defense for great playmakers nowadays

Nobody ever in their prime is averaging 40 pts a game in this era because teams will blitz you at half court and make you pass the ball. If 1 guy is taking at least 25 or more shots a game, he's gonna wear out by the end of the season too. If franchises want to win, no 1 guy is gonna give you 40 pts a game all season. Elite championship teams want role players comfortable taking big time high % shots in the biggest games in the playoffs especially on the road.

I think it's like 3-5 players in NBA history that could've put up 40+ppg if they wanted to, in this era. With so much small ball play and very little focus on interior Defense/ Defenders. Prime-MJ, Wilt, Shaq, Kareem, and Kobe. and a few more that might come close. Like AI...

This is an insane take. If Embiid isn't averaging 40+ then Wilt, Shaq and Kareem not doing it either. I think people are confusing scoring 40 with averaging 40. It's crazy difficult to average 40 points over 82 games.

I don’t think he would average 40 on any team today, but the rules of the shot clock after an offensive rebound from 24 to 14 inflated stats so much. I can see AI around 35 a game with him and a bunch of shooters. Similar to Isaiah Thomas in Boston.
