This was a great segment. Made me think about the overtime that Al Horford puts in on the Celtics, who are a very, very young team. Like, sure, it's astonishing he can still show up and drop 10/12 with 4 assists and 3 stocks, off the bench, or starting, but having someone who knows how to be a player, how to live, how to eat, how to train for a LONG career - and who is obviously extremely invested in sharing that knowledge - is his probably greatest contribution to the team. Everyone in green for the last few years is a better pro, better for the league, bc of Horford. His value cant be overstated.

It’s a byproduct of college simply being a rest stop to the pros. The market is flooded with young players so the older ones are inevitably pushed out. Jordan, Magic, Allen Iverson, Shaq all played multiple years in college. Even when Kobe & KG made the jump from high school they weren’t immediately required to be THE guy because there was a veteran presence.
