R.I.P. Brother GIL ( Sunrise April 1, 1949 - Sunset May 31, 2011 What an tragic loss...62 years young...Gil was light years ahead of his time and will be truly missed...I can't believe Google News never even mentioned his passing...What a shame

The corporations blacklisted Gil back in the early 80s. The silent McCarthyism that goes on to this day.

Miss you, Gil Scott-Heron. In his songwriting, he had the ability to completely empathize with the subjects -- coal miners in a dangerous job, victims of alcoholism,, an unjustly imprisoned man (Gary Tyler), etc. Enormously gifted writer, musician and singer.♥

I saw him a few years back and at the end of the gig he shook my hand and smiled this huge toothy grin....the gig was superb... shaking this great man's hand made my year. RIP brother Gil.

Midnight Music for ever and ever. Please check out "Is That Jazz". Gil is the man and god bless him. He was playing and writing to the end of his time on this world. This song is simple and beautiful, I'll always be a fan of this man.

R.I.P. Brother GIL ( Sunrise April 1, 1949 - Sunset May 31, 2011 This cut is one of my all time favorite Gil Scott/ Brian Jackson compositions...Gil was light years ahead of his time...37 years ago he envisioned the entire middle east uprising thru this song...I can't believe Google News never even mentioned his passing

Conheci G.Scott-Heron em Zurich em 1988 através de um amigo e tornei-me de imediato um fan profundamente identificado com toda a obra e intervenção artística. Reencontrei G.Scott-Heron em 1998 em Viena onde resido, veio actuar numa das melhores salas da cidade e, what for a show on stage !!! Inesquecível performance! a) Ao meu amigo Werner em Zurich, muito obrigado por me ter dado a conhecer G.Scott-Heron; b) A Gil Scott-Heron, Thank You So Much for all. Jaime

When all the others sold OUT, when the others put down their clenched FISTS, when coins, tell, N Pro wore them down to Amatuers.... and the kitchen was hot as a straightenin' comb.. Gil-Scott didn't give up Remember him, cuz the rest of us livin' LARGE... cuz of bruhs like HIM. Believe dat he's Still... wearin' FRO's and fist pumpin' for Freedom and Flight not birdies....
