Iverson didn't just change the game for 'Hip Hop culture' purposes. Give the man some respect. He was a 5'11 giving defences hell on his way to 4 scoring titles. He was a David amongst Goliaths. Even when he switched his game up in 04 and became a much more efficient player, he was dropping 30/10 double doubles on the regular in 04-08. He reignited the whole 30ppg/8apg guard phase that Harden and Westbrook would eventually take to new heights - Until AI in 04/05, nobody since Nate Archibald had been top 5 in scoring, steals and assists in a single season. After AI it was Lebron, Russ, Harden getting those point and assist stat lines, but nobody since has been top 5 in all three. Gonna have slightly to disagree, Sheed eventually had range but look at his 3PA per game for his career. Sheed wasn't jacking up threes much until years after Dirk was drafted. In Sheed's rookie year he had 1.3 3PA, then was at 0.5 or 0.6 threes attempted until year 6 where Sheed finally had 2 3PA /game. Then 4 3PA the next year. Dirk was jacking up threes at a high rate already in year 2 at 3.7 3PA. That same year Rasheed was only at 0.6 attempts. Dirk was shooting 6 TIMES the threes per game in year 2 that Sheed was putting up in year six. Dirk was already ahead of Sheed in the stretch 4 movement.

Magic & Bird - made the NBA primetime must watch TV in the USA (amazing rivalry in college that grew into much more when they entered the league and we got lucky enough to have each on some of the most storied and marketable franchises in the NBA). Jordan - changed the game from a marketing standpoint and helped bring the brand international (dream team + Stern pumping millions into branding). No one has ever done or will do what he did in regards to marrying sports and product endorsements together. AI - brought hip hop culture and a authenticity to the NBA were most players before that shed their past to become part of the league (stars at least), but AI didn't shed shit, he came in and changed the culture of the league, made it okay for others to be themselves and be proud of it. Dirk - he truly showed us what the International player could be, we had many before but they adapted to the US style of play, Dirk (similar to AI in that sense as he didn't adapt but brought his game) brought the Euro style shoot from anywhere as a 7-footer to the league. Just look at the draft the year after he won the MVP - so many teams took chances on Euro-league players hoping to find the next dirk. Steph - he is proving what analytics has been saying for a while now - shooting 3's so often yields more points per possession if you can run the system and shoot like he does but now other teams (i.e. Houston) are adopting the same approach to the game even w/o a shooter like Steph on the roster.

Harden made the stepback 3 something that every perimeter player has in their bag, he was so historically good at that iso stepback game that they built a full team around it that almost knocked off one of the most dominant teams of all time in the KD-Steph Warriors. But also, Harden was the face of the analytics movement, he was all 3's and FTs, he never took a bad shot mathematically, and he did it with Houston before anyone else fully went that direction. It's similar to how Nash was the face of pace-and-space in Phoenix. Obviously, neither Harden nor Nash have a title to show for the way they affected the game, but you can leave an imprint without titles, and I think those two did that.

I feel like players who have post/mid-range game is more valuable because you're attracting guys into the paint and allowing the true shooters to find space and get a clear shot. You don't need to have your main guy shooting 5-8 threes every game, just 2-3 threes is enough. That's why the Heat are so successful during this playoffs because Jimmy and Bam attacking the paint/getting mid range shots so guys like Caleb Martin, Strus and Duncan can get clear 3 pt shots.

as a southpaw i grew up on/pull game from on van exel, D Fish, redd, conley, jennings and even to this day i enjoy/pull game from harden, brunson, and fox the most. Harden undoubtedly changed the game the most next to curry in current generation and one of my fav players..... whether you deem it crafty or manipulative/cheap/travel (its not), the "harden step back" (or at least a version of it) is a staple in EVERYONE'S bag nowadays. him honing in on the time/space between dribbles and timing of the pick up of the ball is actually quite genius. he literally discovered/uncovered the zero step. exploiting the fact one's feet can move any which way as long as a dribble is live, totally broke the game low key. along with his euro timing and ball pickup during (bulldog into euro) is truly elite. the footwork and just knowing the timing is high level. Yes he most likely wont win a chip (life long sixers fan btw) but his stamp on the game is undeniable. there are only a handful of players with a created move/whole move named after them.....sky hook, shamgod, hardaway cross, AI cross, dirk fade, pinoy step, segu hesi, aaaaand...... the harden step back.

Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, Shaq, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Steph Curry got my vote for influencing and changing the NBA. They all have an iconic move set and mannerisms that transcends the league as well as got some rules changed because of how they were on or off the court. I can't put lebron here because its hard for majority of people to be like lebron, plus I'd say it's his IQ that is his best attribute and that's hard for even guys in the league to comprehend the game the way he does on top of everything else he does.
