Come along as I show you the progress of our ever-evolving suburban food forest here in beautiful Gilbert, AZ. This permaculture style garden is full of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants. The gardens are fed with free mulch, worm castings, and Salt River flood irrigation. Our micro-farm, which we have titled "Suburbiculture" is just over 3 years old and coming along nicely! Thanks for watching! Please like, comment, and share with anyone who may be interested! Feel free to visit our website at EZHousehold.com to request a visit, or an at home consultation if you would like to create something like this on your own property.
Peace and Love,
J

Just discovered your channel. I’m also in Gilbert. Nice looking yard. It’s interesting to see your Jamaican cherry in ground and making it. How long have you had it? I have one but I’ve kept it in a pot. Figured they are too cold sensitive for our winters.
@SuburbicultureAZ
@SuburbicultureAZ 2 ай бұрын
Hey Jason! Thanks Man. JC's need to be in the ground, they will die back in the winter but they won't perish. This last winter I kept a halogen work type light at the base and shining up the trunk and it kept it's overall height and it'll start flowering any day now. It's been in the ground 2 years and grows insanely fast. Don't be afraid to plant it. Your welcome to come over and check it out. Hit me up, justin@ezhousehold.com.

Wonderful food forest. Question,do you shade your newly planted stonefruit?
@SuburbicultureAZ
@SuburbicultureAZ 3 ай бұрын
I don't, but after failing many times, I plant in fall rather than spring. It makes a big difference in my opinion. Young trees will do better with painted or wrapping trunks, and exposed branches.

Glad you enjoyed it! If you're looking for a star fruit tree, you can always find online sellers. If you live in the South, anywhere from CA to FL, I imagine somebody has them for sale. Probably best for zone 9+. Good luck!
@upliftlife11
@upliftlife11 3 ай бұрын
@SuburbicultureMicroFarm Yeah, I'm in zone 9, but I haven't seen it at any stores or nurseries here. I found it online at fast growing trees, but that website is expensive and they don't tell you the exact variety. Do you know any other online retailers?

Hello! I love this tour, thanks for the great video! My wolfe loquat tree didn’t make it through last summer and I can’t find another anywhere. Would you ever consider selling a cutting?
@SuburbicultureAZ
@SuburbicultureAZ 3 ай бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Oh no, sorry to read that. I know many loquats didn't make it through last summer, especially of planted last year as well. I lost 4 trees myself. I imagine it will be very difficult to propagate loquat from a cutting, have you ever tried? Typically they are grown from seed and grafted, with a small amount being air layered, from what I understand at least. Try reaching out to Alan at Queen Creek Tropicals, that's where I got mine. Also, there are at least half a dozen varieties that will do very well here, Bradenton, Gold Nugget, and Big Jim are some of the most popular. But definitely check Green Life as well. If you have no luck, reach out to me through my website @ EZHOUSEHOLD.COM.

If you could only choose one, what is your favorite pear tree to grow?
@SuburbicultureAZ
@SuburbicultureAZ 3 ай бұрын
We only have the two, of the two I would choose the Waddell Pear because it is native to Arizona as the result of a natural hybridization process, as far as I understand. However, many pears will do quite well here, including the Asian types.
