After watching this video I read about him on Wiki for further information. Yvel wasn't as great as this video portrayed him to be. He had a temper and had several disqualifications, one involving punching and kicking a referee. He had also been refused a license to fight, on a few occasions, due to his poor sportsmanship. Just goes to show you can spin a situation either way in these videos depending on the focal clips used.

The game has changed substantially even since 2013 when I retired, lots of different training techniques, that people did not know or we’re just not doing plus the science behind the sport is insane now! @Baki Dou! - sure, that is why, in most of street fights, people are using various "tools": kubatons, knives, brass knuckless/knuckle dusters on both hands, screwdrivers, or sharp pencils so they can go after your throat or simply stab you (multiple times in just a few seconds - pure stabbing, going after your liver or a middle body in general. Nothing to do with any cage/MMA fighting at all). And that is not even approaching guns, or teasers, or any kind of pepper sprays or a small can of tear gas (screw that noise, that is like a different level approach). So in a lot of countries, people wouldn't even care. Most of the time, they would use a gun. Problem solved.

Melvin Manhoef, A.Overeem + his older bro, Bas Rutten along with so many others (that'd it take way too long to try to type out all their names) who all share crazy good skills & abilities (and sometimes they are equally crazy in the head, not that it's a bad thing as often they are mad but still when they are not at war they are some of the nicest people that you could hope to meet) have or are elite kickboxers/amongst the very best that the sport has seen, some transition well into other combat sports, others either don't or they are not as successful when say grappling becomes involved but the striking game and in such a large percentage of them whether born in the Netherlands/Holland, born in one of the formerly colonized territories or a combination of having a Dutch parent and a foreign parent it's quite staggering. Even in a number of cases if they were not actually born there or had family from there but they moved to the Netherlands at a young and during their formative years growing up and began training to kickbox from an early age. Not strictly related but still on topic, Only last month or the month before there was news that reported that either three or four absolute scumbags and very far from intelligent thieves were casing Melvin's home of all the dumb decisions to make, yeah try to take his stuff, I'm certain y'all know the outcome if you heard and saw the news, Melvin had a fight coming up he was training for in the middle east and those weasels thought they'd try to hit it whilst he was away but Melvin is too smart to get done like that if you anyone didn't hear and see it then go check it as the PRIDE legend did not let them get away which is exactly what anyone with half a lick of common sense would know about a BMF such as Melvin plus thriving rats like that are just the lowest of the low. Honestly, I simply can not fathom/imagine trying or even thinking such a thing through and then coming to the conclusion that such an idea and bloody far beyond stupid plan will work out well, it's a bit of a shame that such dregs are pretty much always spared at the mercy of people who happen to have become masters of using their limbs to be able to really quickly and easily destroy another person or persons. God bless Melvin, Bas, the Reem brothers, Gilbert and all the greats, far too many to name all of them that have and will continue to hail from or have trained from a young age in Holland as it is has delivered us multiple generations of combat sports greats, long may it continue and nothing but love and respect to all. It's not easy when you're that engaged to follow certain fight rules. This is MMA. It is not boxing, where you can't use your feet or a rear naked choke, or an arm bar intended to break your opponents arm. You throw elbows and everything else. If I have a guy on the ground trying to get up, in a real MMA street fight, everything is allowed to stop the guy from engaging you. It is hard to turn that self preservation mode off, when you are that engaged. I don't think it is intentionally being dirty. They even sometimes kick in the groin, but it is not intentionally being dirty. Sometimes they are really engaged and their kicks go low. There were really strange rules in some MMA fights, like for example, you couldn't hit with closed fists. If I hit with a closed fist, am I dirty, or just fighting how it is natural to me, and I am in monster mode, and trying to destroy my opponent before he destroys me, and I forget for a second? So, it's not really being dirty, or trying to be dirty.

Very fun to watch but I can't help but notice that he lost to every elite UFC fighter he faced. Dan Henderson✔️Don Frye✔️Vitor Belfort✔️ Junior Dos Santos ✔️ Jeremy Horn✔️ He would have lost to Wanderlei Silva if he didn't get hit in the junk He beat Chiek Kongo and an old fat Might Moe. Definitely a badass dude!! but an elite MIxed Martial Artist?? imho 🤔

he definitely lost to some of the greats. but by God every opponent woke up and remembered who they fought that's for damn sure. he pretty much went to decisions on all the fights he lost 👍 and I don't think wanderlei Silva wanted to fight him. so a quick brutal ball kick got him out of that. just my opinion of course. 🙄

4:40 I admire the man's heart to want to keep fighting, but that shoulda been stopped immediately after he got up and the fight started up once again yet he didn't do anything except cover up and hide. He wasn't looking for openings to counter-punch, he wasn't shooting in to try and clench and stop the barrage, he just kinda.. hid.

@Philosophy_First I must have misunderstood. That was just the impression I got from Joe Rogan and Bas Rutten discussing it in past interviews. I've never actually looked up the rules until now. I know I've seen closed fist punches occasionally make contact to the head and not get called. The ref must've either not seen it or let it slide because it was always in the midst of a slugfest

The problem with professional fighting is that you get older and your opponents get younger.

it's so funny how you don't realize what an advantage being young is... when i was 18, i naturally felt i could counquer the world in a day and thought i would always feel that way... now I'm 39 and just want to lay down all the time and relax. no more need to prove myself to anyone...
