Hi from the uk. Great work your doing there with those beautiful cars. Wow what gorgeous minis you’ve created my dream is to one day get hold of a mini van or pickup and try to recreate the twini like Austin did back in the day. I can’t remember the guys name off the top of my head but he was a boss or the actual owner of Austin that had twin 1275cc engines one in the front one in the back making it a 2550cc monster all wheel drive twini that the guy used to drive to and from work in. It was just a prototype type car that never went into production I’ve seen one made in the last 10 years that was a Kawasaki green pickup the builder said that it was the ultimate mini with more than enough power and would show sports cars up at the lights and on the motorways. I would love to see you guys build one would probably be the first one in America too with all or mostly original parts used keeping it original. Which appeals to a lot of mini enthusiasts keep up the hard work and keep the videos coming thanks for the awesome videos you’ve made so far

I'm from UK so Mini's here were very common. Where they really come into their own is on tight twisty roads with lots of corners and you will have way more fun than many current day cars will give. Stay off the freeways (as you call them) because that's for guys who want to sit all day in the same gear driving in a straight line......boring as hell !!

What about mini16v kad conversion
@GildredRacing3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question, we actually have a similar K head setup in the shop right now. The main reason would simply be that it is a Race spec A series and in the states there are few places that can service them. The D/B/K swaps can maintain stock /near factory specs and remain reliable while offering great power increases over the A series. ERA attempted to push the A+ to its braking point in their quest to create the fastest production mini and they were limited to gearbox issues among other things. The Honda drivetrain is simply better than the A series. If you compare corvette drivetrains from 1959 to 2001 there are significant improvements on all aspects, This is similar to the Honda/Aseries debate. Whenever you take an old drivetrain and increase the power significantly you lose reliability and drivability. If the D16 had been available to John Cooper in the 1960s I’m sure he would have loved it. Note,, not all swaps are equal and all require significant R&D to install and tune correctly.

Is there a difference in how the builds are done with bullnose vs clubman? I'm rolling a 1973 clubman 1100 (with a shopping list of things to repair/replace/improve) , and I'll either make time to fix it up best I can or sell her to get to my next project that I won't mind replicating what you're up to.

Do you guys build EV versions?
@GildredRacing3 жыл бұрын
We have a few EV builds On order yes. We haven’t been happy with the quality and range of the systems up until recently. I have tested numerous EV cars and the difference in real world drivability between say a Tesla and these EV swapped cars has been vast. The products we are using will be running a Tesla S motor, upgradable battery packs, over 150 mi range and a variably selectable 150hp street / 300hp race modes. As batteries continue to lighten and provide added capacity the EV option appears to be the future. The D vs EV will be an interesting debate. I’m hoping to do a little video soon discussing different swaps.

A supercharged 500 HP mini Cooper..........Now that's the perfick car for bouncing around the the back country roads here in the Santa Ynez Valley while dodging all of the damn bicycle riders. Although I would likely end up with enough speeding tickets to wallpaper my bedroom with. It is hard enough keeping my foot out of accelerator on my 2016 mustang GT but there is something about small cars low on the ground with enough power to make them really move, they just need to be driven fast.

@@GildredRacing I used to have a Datsun 510 for a short time back in high school and it was a lot of fun to drive, or at least it was until I rolled it. Not nearly the power you are putting in these Coopers but comparable wheel base and handling. Taking that 500hp Cooper you built out for an afternoon ride through the back roads around the valley here would be a kick in the butt. So your shop is in Buellton right?
