23:08 This is actually the forest where Irisviel and Maya fought Kirei off and got brutalized in return. Also the same forest Saber fought Caster (Gilles de Rais). This villa is the Einzbern's Fuyuki property, their operations base in Japan and not really their 'home'. The forest that Kiritsugu and Illya walked around was in the Einzbern ancestral castle in arguably Germany - that place never stopped snowing.

Just to clarify, the castle in this episode is not the one with the forest where Kiritsugu played with Illya. That is the main Einzbern castle in Germany. This castle, in the forest outside Fubuki, is the one where Kiritsugu had his big initial duel with Kayneth. Coming from Zero I feel like the Caster backstory here does a lot to explain the strangeness of this grail war in comparison to the previous one when it comes to the masters selected. Of course the Einzberns, Matous and Tohsakas are going to be involved even if they're available representatives are teenagers, but the lack of involvement from anyone in the Mage's Association was a bit odd considering everything with Kayneth and Waver last time. Turns out they actually originally had two masters involved. Speaking of which, the 'she' Galliasta alludes to as Lancer's master is an actual character explored in certain Fate stories.

Ive really been enjoying your anime reactions, you seem to have a very earnest and sincere approach to the medium, sometimes newcomers find it hard to keep an open mind to how these shows can have strange structures or cultural distinctions that they’re not accustomed to from their usual entertainment media. 26:27 to answer this, it's kinda long story so I'll try to explain it in simple way. Idk if you remember, but The Grail War & The Holy Grail is a creation of 3 main Mage family (Tohsaka, Einzbern, & Matou A.K.A Makiri). Each of them was actually bearing different role. Tohsaka offered land of sacrificial, which is Fuyuki city. That's why Rin seems to know more about the where about relating to Holy Grail war (church, who's gonna be the father, 3 sacrificial location, & so on) & she's the one in charge for the land since her ancestor was the one who has it. Makiri/Matou in the other hand was the one who created the Command Seal & the spell relating to The Holy Grail. That's why in Fate/Zero you saw Matou ordered Karia to modify his summoning incantation to get Madness affinity to get Berserker class (think of it as a "guarantee tool" to get the prize pool in gamble). Meanwhile, Einzbern was the one who has to offer the vessel. Many people still misunderstood that "The Holy Grail cup" is the ultimate goal. But the truth is the ultimate goal of this war is to get what after that which is The True Magic: Heaven's Feel, a massive power that can grant you your inner wish to become reality based on your way of thinking. And that power comes in a form of the vessel which is the Justicia Einzbern (the original Einzbern-face, all Einzbern Homunculus face are based on her). As of why they put the vessel to participate in the war is not really explained BUT it is indeed related to the "requirements" to manifest the first stage of the Holy Grail which is the sacrificial vessel. It goes back to the 3 main Mage family above which to make the grail appear you have to at least fulfilled that 3 requirements (sacrificial land, the spell, the sacrificial vessel).

It also doesn't help that the truth of the Grail War was hidden from others and the entire ritual was just mass marketed as a battle royale to get riches, hence why the Mage Association doesn't care to send more than one emissary to review the entire thing. Had the Clock Tower known that the Three Families were trying to reach the Root and acquire the Third Magic, the whole Association would be on their asses in seconds.

Heracles is actually in his weakest class when summoned as a berserker. His best class is stated to be Archer while based on his sword that we’ve unfortunately never seen him with, Marmyadose which is stated to be stronger than Excalibur, would probably be just as strong as a saber. Also as a berserker he can’t use his Nine Lives noble phantasm.

Well, Medea was the subject of one the world's earliest great tragic Greek plays (by Euripedes), as well as, over the last few thousand years, a large number of novels, operas, and so on. Interestingly, Fate/Stay Night isn't the first time she's been inserted into another story: in the 15th century, she was parachuted into the King Arthur mythos (in an Italian version) where she proves to be still alive and imprisons Sir Tristan (Lancelot's occasional rival) in a magic castle. As they mention, in the original Greek mythology, she was a friend and sometime shipmate of Hercules (aka Berseker here). I liked her depiction in this and prior episodes of Unlimited: it nicely captures the mix of pride, ruthlessness, and occasional kindness she displayed in the original stories --she was actually fairly reasonable when facing Shirou et al (and let her hostage go), while she did her best to dispose of an obviously evil master in this one. Of course, she's also being rather mean to Saber, but them's the breaks...

The caster is a person in the era when God lived, and even the strongest mage in modern times, or even a real mage, will not be able to compete with her. She can pull out as much magic as she wants just by ordering it, and she can use it like her own hands and feet. That's unthinkable in modern times.

Illya being vessel and master is one of those things that I can`t understand too

It's actually easy to understand, a Master just needs to have mana/magecraft/magic circuits in order to be a Master. There's another character in another route that pretty much functions like Illya and she is a Master too (just keeping it vague for spoilers). Illyasviel is 70% Magic Circuits, and has the strongest Master-Servant feedback in probably all the Grail contenders. The only challenge here is that should Illyasviel still be alive during the late stage of the HGW where let's say 2 or 3 Servants are only remaining, her body would have been like Irisviel's and given out by that time as it begins to take in the dead Servant magical energy and begin opening up the Greater Grail - so IDK what Acht's plan was here once Illyasviel inevitably becomes comatose and unable to fight.

@@cainyourkids that's the point - how is she supposed to use Grail if she becomes one? In other case you talking about there is another person who can do that, but in case of Illya it's only her maids that left and I doubt that Einsberns would trusted them such important mission

@@BekindBekbek She's not supposed to. Illyasviel is aware of the purpose of the Holy Grail War (to reach the Root) as a member of one of the Three Families. She was never meant to use the Grail or be allowed to grant her own wish - she was supposed to just keep defeating other Masters/Servants until she has sufficient energy to form the Greater Grail. This is actually a core part of the Einzbern tragedies - the human members of the Einzberns have long left their home or killed themselves in their failure to achieve the Third Magic. The only ones left in that Castle are golems like Acht and homonculi like Illyasviel and her other clones - their only purpose was to achieve the Third Magic, but since they're essentially non-humans, they don't really have notions or desires to do anything else. After Illyasviel is defeated/dead, Acht will turn the homonculus generator off and they and the remaining Homonculi left would have destroyed themselves since they no longer have purpose. Had there still been Einzbern humans, I could surmise that once Illyasviel has become the Grail, transfer of Command Spells will happen and the human Einzbern will continue to defeat the other Servants, and use their Command Spells to make their own Servant kill themselves and open up the Root. There is also the idea of Leysritt and Sella - both are Homonculi created in the template as Justeaze, so they may function like alternate Lesser Grails the way Irisviel did. Perhaps transfer all the dead Servants' mana into them instead of Illyasviel so that she can still continue on?

@@BekindBekbek In a sense, yes - had the Einzberns won and a path to the Root was opened up, I don't think there was a human Einzbern alive enough to witness that...unless their goal is for everyone else (rest of humanity) to be able to enjoy the use of the Third Magic even without the Einzberns there. The only remaining member of the original trio was Zouken, and even he had forgotten why he created the Holy Grail War in the first place (to save humanity). Also, by the 4th Holy Grail War, Acht barely even knows why they're still fighting in it, they just want to win. They've lost sight of their true goal: Heaven's Feel. In the 4th HGW, only Tokiomi was aiming to reach the Root. Zouken just wanted to live forever, and Acht wanted the Einzberns to win after centuries of humiliation being defeated by the others.

@@FallenBird-rs8znWell, since you say so, to begin with, I watched about thirty anime, most people watched Naruto when they were little and don't remember half of them, today's anime are mostly copies of Naruto... I'm currently watching it at the age of 19 and I think it's the greatest anime ever and probably one of the best of all time with one piece, aot maybe hunter, but then again, for both hunter and aot, I think they are too short to be the biggest or best animes.

what do you mean it had to fill FZ's shoes ? Not only did UBW come before (so any incoherence there would be with Zero actually comes from Zero) and most importantly, this route obviously comes after the first, so a lot of revelations and elements were already introduced and not reintroduced here. We learn the identity of Berserker in the first and it's barely in this one, the fact that Kirei STOLE lancer and did not summon him too, how is Gilgamesh's mana mantained etc... but unfortunately, the first anime is a carnage and butchered the story, mixing elements from all 3 of the routes at some point for no reason

Funny enough, you'll find Fate Zero to be extremely contentious to a lot of VN fans versus casual anime viewers, mostly because Urobuchi's characterization of Saber (and how it affects her relationship with Kiritsugu and the other Servants) was very divisive. Zero made her out to be this shining, resplendent beacon of hope and honor that could do no wrong - the VN, however, states that Saber would not hesitate to burn down villages if it meant protecting her kingdom as a whole. Saber, by VN standards, would have gone well with Kiritsugu, but for the conflict in Zero to happen, Saber's character had to be changed

@@cainyourkids Well, Saber still had this conflict with Kiritsugu, she said herself that she remembers him as someone very cold and cruel and that's the reason why she never mentionned it to Shirou, since he talked about him in such high regards honestly, I began with Zero, then went on to read the VN and watch the anime, I honestly find the UBW and HF anime to be the least good out of the 3 experiences (without counting the first anime of course). It had to obviously cut a lot of content, but it still gives less characterisation + what was changed wasn't exactly for the best imo (even though some things could hardly be animated, such has some fights that will come later)
