Thank you Gil, this video will be shown to my dispatchers as a training tool. Very detailed and broken down. I'm a fleet owner and we dispatch our own trucks. I'm in the process of training my daughter and her friend to dispatch for us. I have training materials for reatding but videos work best and your video is spot on. I learned a few tricks myself. Thanks again.

Thank you Gemini! I can do a much better job explaining how to book loads on DAT but since I’m new to making videos, I missed out on a few steps or talked about a few relatively unimportant concepts for too long. I will definitely consider updating this video in the future when I know I can do better! Also, it’s so nice to hear your daughter and her friend getting into the business! Part of the reason why I started this channel is to get the younger generation, and people who are my age interested in the transportation industry! There are so many great opportunities here and I’m sure they’ll do great!

I cannot find any reviews from previous graduates of your course or successful dispatchers having signed up for your Skool. There's so many dispatcher training programs out there I've learned in a very short time of searching. How do I know I'm making the right choice when picking your training? You mention a lot of stuff being free. What's the catch? If it's one thing I've learned in life, it's anything worth having isn't easy to get. Everything costs, so how much do I really owe you for the training if I take it for free? You have to make a living too...

Intermodal dispatching sounds interesting but I’ve never done it. How does that work and where do you usually dispatch from?
@beardedonetech Жыл бұрын
@@Gill22 I worked for a company called Evans Delivery. And intermodal is pretty much has to do with all the containers that come in from overseas. Our drivers would go to the rail yards and pick them up from there and make the delivery. Where it differentiates from Dry vans is that the driver is responsible for returning the empty container once the unload is finished. And every steamship line has a different return location, that can vary every day. It's just much more involved.. Which is why I want to get into dry van dispatching, looks much easier. No dealing with empty returns or nothing of that nature you know ? Just negotiating prices and making sure you're one step ahead of your driver's to keep them running.

Which vehicle is the fastest way to get a load: A cargo van (Promaster cargo van), a Sprinter, or a box truck.
@Gill223 жыл бұрын
I don’t have much experience with either of those vehicles but just logically speaking, I believe the more space you have the better. So, in my opinion, box truck would be the way to go out of all those options since it could do everything a cargo van and Sprinter can do and more!

For people starting out, would you recommend a dispatcher.
@Gill223 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question and it really depends on the individual. Do you have prior experience in trucking? Do you have a basic understanding of how to analyze profitability of lanes? Are you comfortable negotiating with multiple brokers every day? Do you understand the impact of seasonal changes on your lanes? Do you have time to deal with vast amounts of paperwork? You don’t have to be good at all of those things, you can just dispatch to yourself by watching my videos or other videos on KZbin but.... it is a LOT of work. In my opinion, working with a great dispatcher that understands your needs is worth the small percentage they charge (anything less than 12% is acceptable imo) and in many cases you’ll make more even after paying a dispatcher their fee. Again, there’s no right or wrong. Try both out and see what you like but imo... I would definitely recommend going with a top tier dispatcher!

Cal, I can rent a cargo van; It looks like I can set up an account on the load apps BUT will they require past experience, personal info and or specific requirements? I saw in other postings that there are stringent requirements because these companies wont just give their loads to just anyone. It looks like carriers must have certifications/licenses/permits exaggerated insurances, is that correct? Im assuming that the regular insurance coverage from the rental company will not suffice?

@Gill222 жыл бұрын
Most brokers won’t care but some brokers with higher standards and usually higher pay will want to only work with experienced carriers which they can figure out through reviews, age of company, safety score, etc. In most situations you won’t have any issue moving loads with brokers if you can negotiate a rate they are willing to meet.

(you should offer a pdf guide for purchase with all the video topics and notes, I would easily buy one)
@Gill223 жыл бұрын
Conestoga trailers are incredibly versatile, as you already know, but for many people it may just be overkill. Most trucking companies focus on specific industries and will ship specific types of load which will of course determine the equipment they buy. However, if you want versatility in the loads that you carry, then the conestoga setup may be for you. I surprisingly haven’t seen many people with that setup on the road and it’s something i’ve also been looking into!
@redleader3 жыл бұрын
@@Gill22 I see a hundred a day out here on I-5 running N-S. Seems to be getting more popular. We haul lots of lumber that MUST be tarped. Fancy kiln-dried wood. So a conestoga is SWEET! But I want to have ACCESS to other types of loads for backhaul N-bound outta LA. Thanks for your reply.
@Gill223 жыл бұрын
@@redleader Ahhh i see. Just another tip... for dry van loads the inside of your trailer HAS to be clean and dry so if you’re planning on using a conestoga, I reckon you’ll have to spend some time cleaning up the debris left by lumber or other flatbed loads before you pickup a dry van load. I would still recommend it but just something to keep in mind!
