Thank you Leeroy for taking the time to watch.Do you have any vintage razors ?
@gnomeoshaves46417 жыл бұрын
The Suffolk Shaver I do have one vintage and it's a Gillette NEW LC. One of my favorites by far!
@greg61623 жыл бұрын
@@stephenmkeer I just got into vintage Gillette razors. Found a notched nickel 1940’s Superspeed for $20 in excellent condition. I was so impressed by the smoothness of the TTO mechanism I bought a 1959 Fatboy and two Slim adjustable’s. I’m on the lookout for a rhodium plated British TTO, probably an aristocrat. It’s hard to find in the US

@@greg6162 sounds like you’ve fallen into the razor rabbit hole. You should look at the U.K E-bay site for a aristocrat,you never know unless you try. Good luck in finding one (or two). 👍

@@stephenmkeer indeed… I just bought another Gillette 1946-47 unnotched gold Aristocrat. I think I’m done with vintage razors. I honestly have more vintage razors than modern at this point. I try to buy razors that fill a void such as the adjustable’s, however the vintage Gillette razors just surprise me with every shave

Cleaned up very nicely. I just gave away that same razor at the wetshave meet up. Great instructional video!

Another great metal polish to use is Meguires all metal polish which was recommended by a fellow shaver (Kevy Shaves) which is safe on De razors I used it on my razors and the finish is great

GUM brand makes a little interdental brush that looks like mini pipe cleaner. Would probably work well with some solvent to get in between the teeth and little parts.

Thanks for the tip Brad.

How much inc postage did it cost and a piece of string dipped in polish is effective for cleaning the ball end, put the head end of the handle in a vice or between your legs and take the string and move it side to side hard and fast for effective cleaning, Jock Stewart.
@stephenmkeer7 жыл бұрын
The razor cost me £10.50 including the postage.The ball end part can be taken out of the end of the handle.

Nice restoration job, Stephen, I hope you can get the base cap fixed 😌👍

Either finding someone to fix it or find another one.

I have the 1930’s Gillette “NEW” LongComb bar handle . Great razor. And I recently got a 69’ Slim and 69’ black beauty. And when I was doing my normal tooth brush and dawn clean up, I took the paint off the number adjuster again 😅like I did when I got my Slim lol. I seen a video Matt put up where he used enamel paint with a toothpick.... that’s what ima do lol 💈😁✌️💈

Do you just own vintage razors or do you have modern ones too? Good luck with the little restore job on your razor.

Yeah I had a Muhle R-41 that I traded for the slim and some soaps but I plan on getting one again.. also want to get the Parker Varient and other modern razors like the 34 G

If they are still in good working order after all those years,they were well looked after. You can’t say the same for the razors made these days.

I won the bid on eBay for a Vintage 1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable Safety Razor H 3 Lot #1 and will use a nylon brush and a brass brush first and then use Flitz Polish on it, which is safe to use. I'll also put it through a few cycles in my ultrasonic cleaner.

Shave Emporium I'm sure could fix the tooth on the base plate , and straighten up the other tooth . Looks good Steve .
@stephenmkeer7 жыл бұрын
Do you mean razor emporium ? If so,sounds expensive with shipping etc. The razor came out nice I think.

The Suffolk Shaver that's what I meant Steve . Yeah it came out beautifully . I was talking about the tooth , but I imagine a jeweler might could mend it .

Hi sorry about the comb breaking, as it is a brass finish i.e heat won't destroy the finish, it will be possible to have it reattached using silver solder a jeweller or model engineer will be able to do this, it is quite an easy job. Thanks for the great videos

Those base plates on the old Gillette razors are cast brass so they are more fragile and prone to crack if you try to bend them.
@stephenmkeer7 жыл бұрын
I wish I knew that before hand,thanks Ray.

I suspected when you said you were going to straighten that bent teeth of the vintage safety razor I already know it will break off its very fragile should have just let it be.

Hey there my friend. I also went vintage. 1922 Gillette new standard. Much like yours. My teeth are bent on the corners. No good at all. Any ideas how to straighten them? By the way, love watching ya shave. You're a pretty cool dude.

I would get some professional help,if you are in the states go to someone like Matt at razor emporium and not what I did. I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching,much appreciated.
@angeloparis79635 жыл бұрын
Can't straighten them. (cast brass) Live with it and have an INTACT, ORIGINAL razor. The bent corner tines do not affect the shave.
