Tanner's Cerebral Palsy Story at Gillette Children's

When Tanner, a triplet, was born, his feet were curled up like “candy canes.” Thus began a lifetime of medical care for Tanner, who has cerebral palsy and clubfeet. Tanner’s treatment at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare has included multiple surgeries, bracing and casting, and rehabilitation therapy. Today, the confident 9-year-old is a talented baseball player.
The Feyereisens built a baseball field in their rural Wisconsin backyard to give Tanner and his brothers a place to play in between treatments. The field has become a safe space for all of the kids of the neighborhood, with no bullying allowed; the only rule is to “Be kind.” Each year, TPC field, named after Tanner and his brothers Parker and Cole, holds an opening day to raise money for Gillette.
Children with some of the most rare, complex and traumatic medical conditions from all over the world come to Gillette for life-changing treatment. The experts at Gillette, including orthopedic surgeon Tom Novacheck, M.D., pride themselves on treating every patient as if that child were their own.
