Sorry for saying this here, but MAN your teeth are gorgeous and you too of course. Sorry! I really couldn't handle being quiet. I am a medical freshman. I learn web designing online. What do you recommend I do? Should I stick to the medical route and become an established doctor or should I blend the two together and learn programming in my leisure or should I do something else?? Thanks for your amazing videos by the way. Keep up the good work. 😍🤗

I have been struggling so much in an abusive marriage and find myself newly divorced and left with no money. I have been so depressed and this is the first video I have seen all day that I can feel just a glimmer of hope after watching it. Thank you! I have a dream to start my own online ministry youtube channel, but I need a job right now, like today! Being depressed, I find it even harder to get started and being autistic makes it even more difficult to know the steps to find employment. I am very smart, was formerly a graphic designer in the film industry and I also worked in advertising around 20 years ago. I hope I will know what to do to get one of these jobs. I am an excellent worker but I tend to need help in the area of finding work, which is one of the limitations of my disability. Thank you very much for this video. I wish I could hire you to help me. I really need someone to help me. I feel so hopeless.

The driving job, just fyi- subtract gas, maintenance, insurance, wear & tear on car, you MUST report everything to IRS at end of year- all these large companies are reporting this to IRS, so in the end it's about 12-13 hrly.

Hey Gillian, awesome content!! 👍 I’ve worked online, for myself, for about 15 years but managed to fail at 106 different Businesses/Income Opportunities. That sounds rather negative & pessimistic but thankfully I have at least learnt from all my failures. I suffered from what many of us call ‘Shiny Object Syndrome’ throughout the entire 15 years & it wasn’t until my health started to decline that I began to look very seriously at my ‘journey’ and what I’d been doing (or NOT doing). I was recently diagnosed with Cancer & I’ve decided to give this whole Online thing one last push. I’ve considered every one of your suggestions over the years & tried my hand at many of them as well. That is, all except being an Editor of some kind. This would really be playing to my Strengths as I have an English A Level & enjoy working with ‘words’. Thank you for giving me one last shot at the ultimate Laptop Lifestyle. Keep up the good work 🙂 x

Hey Rick, thanks for sharing your story! 106 -- wowza, that's a lot! It sounds like you've learned the cause of why things haven't worked out though: you're getting distracted. You can be anything you set your mind to, if you believe it is possible and stay committed. If you want to be an editor, then be an editor. You have a nearly infinite number of opportunities before you. The hardest challenge is simply *deciding* to make one happen.

Social Media Managers do more than post and collect items to post, they also provide analytics and other data which helps the client with understanding their campaigns, their audience and competition. Website Designers aren't the same as Website Developers. Just because a site is pretty, it doesn't mean that it SEOd, can convert customers, drive sales and a host of other things that site developers take into consideration when developing a site.

You should add: - Teaching Languages on Skype ($20+ per hour) - Teaching a musical instrument on Skype ($20+ per hour) - Buy crypto currencies and let 'em fatten up in value, and also trade 'em online. - Make music and/or videos and sell them on your website. - App Programmer (does need some training of course, but learning now is not such a steep curve provided the new development kits are quite intuitive) - Affiliate marketing programs (like with Amazon) when you review products on youtube videos link the products in your description section and every time people click and buy the product through your link you get a commission.

You forgot to mention that when doing surveys, most of the time there’s a pre-survey to qualify for the survey, and 9/10 times, you won’t qualify.
@SundayMourningLove5 жыл бұрын
And you spend approx 12 mins to 'pre-qualify' (which you believe is the actual survey) just for them to say "oh sorry but you do NOT qualify for this survey. Would you like to try to find another survey?" So you spend nearly a quarter of an hour for them to tell you that you got nothing. If you keep trying, by the time an hour is over you MAY have made 5 cents! An hour spent of frustrating answering stupid@$$ questions just to MAYBE make a nickel. That's how it has ALWAYS worked out for me anyway.

Amazon flex has scheduled blocks, which pay you for that block. For example, if it says 3 hours for $54. You'll get paid for the block $54, even if it takes longer or shorter than 3hours. The Challenge is you have make sure the customer gets their package, if you have a customer that says they didn't get the package, you get dinged.

These are very constructive suggestions, however, being a small business person, I can attest to the fact that because of the low entry and training point of these jobs, it is exceedingly difficult to find people who are competent at many of these tasks. the courier and driving jobs are burnout jobs, very difficult to do well and not home based. The caveat at the end of your video is key -turn your passions and hobbies into your job. The big issue is that most people don't know how to start and run or structure their own business. I loved the idea of virtual assistant. As a professional writer and entrepreneur, you helped me to realize that I have the ideal skill set to jump into this career. I am also really interested in finding ways to make money at writing books and public speaking. I have taken classes and workshops and really investigated this pretty well. I would love to learn with you. Definitely subscribing. I am very intruiged!

FYI...you have to purchase commercial auto insurance if you want to drive for Uber or Lyft. Your insurance company will not cover claims under your personal insurance if you're involved in an accident and if they find out you're doing that job they can drop you. I know...I researched it because I was considering the option. so glad I didn't do it.
@tonydelariva71636 жыл бұрын
I drive for both Uber and Lyft. For the longest time I drove with just "regular" full coverage insurance. Then I found this company called Clearcover that gave me a "ridesharing endorsement" plus full coverage and roadside assistance for 62 dollars/mo!! (No, I do NOT work for them or anything like that) Just saying that there are companies out there willing to work with you if you do ridesharing as well as regular personal driving. Check em out.

If you need to acquire the *skills* to be an editor, then I'd recommend courses on Udemy, at a community college, or via an online university. Once you have basic skills, you can start networking with writers and do some work for free to build a portfolio and gain testimonials, which you can then use to attract and convert paying clients. Hope that helps! Thanks for your question :)

I suggest Upwork.com - Really learn the how to's and how to maneuver the way to get jobs and network effectively. Read Upwork.com blog and community forum. Gillian's dollar amount for each jobs are estimates not absolutes. For instance a Web Designer - Visual design, layout and structure, and code starts at $20 an hour depending on client and your experience. Trust in your talents, abilities, and background. Any commitment takes time so keep on yourself to learn, work, and follow through. Thank you.

I've tried upwork and honestly it's been a draining almost depressing venture for me. Almost like I'm applying to a vacuum. I've been on the site for just over a year and I have one client who revisits me for new work... I'm on the illustrations side of the site. Any tips on how to really get hired or seen?
@melaniesmith19286 жыл бұрын
NJCLAWS I agree. I don’t invest a lot of time there. Always get emails saying the job I applied to has been cancelled or expired.

I had never heard of Haro. It was a great tip. You should also add localization and translations to your list. I freelance as a translator and bilingual writer and editor (Spanish and English) and it has been a great to have a side hustle.

Uber in the Houston area is not lucrative as you must have a Taxi cab license, use Taxi insurance unless you pickup outside of the houston area.. houston covers quite a bit all over the area map so you aren't left with many areas outside of houston to pickup with a fine if you don't have the license and insurance required.

How did you get into freelance writing? Im in my last year of creative writing and have also self published a book and have an online presence, but I have no idea how to take those skills into a professional environment? I'm also interested in editing and copywriting, but again, how did you break into this?
@gillianzperkins7 жыл бұрын
I got into it two ways: 1) Making connections and asking for work. I spent a lot of time networking online (FB groups are great for this) and developing relationships. People knew I was a writer (because I told them) so when they knew someone who needed a writer then they'd recommend me. 2) Applying for jobs listed on Upwork. Definitely the faster, more direct approach! (but it's good to do both, because growing your network allows you to raise your rates more significantly then just bidding on public listings.) Hope that helps!

Very useful info, Gillian. Thanks! Editor sounds like it could be a good fit for me. (I'm somewhat detailed oriented, and poor English grammar is one of my pet peeves.) Virtual assistant would be cool too. I suspect some virtual assistants make significantly more than you've stated. Incidentally, this is the first time I've heard your first name pronounced with a hard "G".

A graphic designer making $25/hr!? Right. I'm a graphic designer/production artist and I'm at a whopping $9.25. It isn't based off your skill level. It's what city you're lucky enough to be living in.

Great video. But working from home doesn’t have to be all digital related ideas. Home made hand crafts and hand made products in general (especially natural products) can be a great way to make a living if you like what you do. Soap making, stitching, cosmetics, lamps, even hand made furniture.
