I totally agree. Her hair wasn’t cut or spliced in a later date in my opinion. They just put it down. I just went in and put my long hair up in pigtails which is quite a sight for someone my age!😂😂 I then took it down and it was at least 3 to 4 inches longer. And I didn’t even have curls. This was a fun video!😊 Thanks Rick!

Actors don’t get their hair cut in the middle of shooting an episode. TV shows had hair stylists who maintained the haircuts of the cast for continuity. As others have pointed out, it’s probably just a hair style choice that makes the length look shorter.

There’s nothing preventing actors from getting haircuts. GI was not shot in front of a live audience so sometimes a long time would go on between shoots. Lucille Balls hair would change between episodes with only a couple of days in between

Back in the 60's they had hair pieces called "falls". My aunt had a beauty shop and she brought one home to show us. They were added to natural hair when they needed more volume for those "big" up do's. I think it was either that or she curled and teased her hair to make it appear "big". Everyone "teased" their hair in the 60's!

I always liked watching Ginger's hair. Her hair style changed in many episodes. In some episodes, her hair looks real long or real short. The castaways must have brought along a hairdresser on the three hour tour. And the hair dresser's 2nd job was to carry all of the Howell's luggage. lol.

I don't think there is that much of a change. Pulling your hair up into 2 ponytails will definitely make the hair look a little shorter. Also she has them wound up in a large curl that looks to be hairsprayed into place (for cuteness). When you undo those ponytails and straighten the hair it could very well land slightly past her shoulders. .... But you could also be right!? I'm just a girl that plays with my hairstyles. ✌️😊🫂

Look at Mary Ann's pigtails at the still frame @ 4:30. Her pigtails have large fat curls. I would bet if you straightened the pigtails out they would be past her shoulders. Her hair's not shorter here. I'm more concerned with Jungle Boy's hair. Look at that same still @ 4:30. Would you expect a boy who had been living alone on the island to have such a perfectly styled haircut?

Years ago, I use to work at a commercial photo lab that processed still photographer's film for movie production companies. When film companies make a movie, it is a lot like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. They don't start with page 1 and work their way through. It is a hodgepodge of various scenes, various takes, at various locations, done by various cameramen, many times over the course of several weeks or even months. The film is then processed, labeled, and sent to an editing facility. Sometimes a million linear feet is reviewed by dozens of editors and pieced together, and that is just the beginning. With all of that going on, mistakes are bound to happen.

Don't think it's a blooper. Remember, back in the 60's, hair styles had more tucked up volume & could easily be styled to trick your eyes into thinking it was longer when combed out. Some of those 60's beehives were off the chain. 😃

Dino actually spoke in his first appearance on The Flintstones, this was changed due to Dino not overshadowing the other characters. How about Fred's paper boy Arnold? This kid has had more changes than any other character in the show!? Black hair, brown hair, short, tall etc, only his voice remained the same. The Jetsons well George was actually born on July 31, 2022. Crazy right?! Baney Rubble nearly unalived himself in episode as he and Betty were trying to adopt Bam Bam and the courts were giving them a hard time. Pretty dark for a cartoon, never mind that it aired in primetime in its original run. Fred and Barney also smoked and drank beer in commercials of the same time period when those episodes first aired. All true! There were a total of 24 Flintstones spinoff cartoons! In 1994 Pebbles and Bam Bam got married and had twins in animated tv movie I Yabba Dabba Do! Not to mention the WWE movie The Flintstones and WWE: Stone Age Smack Down back in 2015. 🪨👶👶👰‍♀🥊

In production terms, it’s what’s known as a continuity error. The production team on Gilligan’s Island may have had to do some pick up shots, or rewrite parts of the script for this episode and reshoot them after Dawn Wells got her hair cut. In the BBC Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy TV series there are several continuity errors in terms of production when it came to the hair length and hairstyles of main characters of what was only a six episode series, so things like this happen quite often.

I did a scientific experiment with my own long hair! Putting it up in ponytails made it look very short. Spiral curls would have raised it even further. I don't think she had a haircut!

Per the IMDb, this was Kurt Russell's 10th TV appearance! As for Mary Ann's hair, I think the way it was put in in pigtails, it raised the hair. Her hair wasn't shorter, it was just pulled up higher. Mary Ann Forever!
