The sequel was ASP's rewrite for season 7. The hype has died and there are no prospects in sight for another episode. Compare that to the almost decade-long fandom after the actual s7 we got that convinced Netflix to pay for a return of the show. There's no better evidence that all the critics owe the much-derided writers of the real season 7 a mea culpa.

My biggest take away from the later seasons is that your environment really can do a number on you. Rory was great until she started taking on the role of her grandparents daughter. Her character really started changing as she entered that world, switched to Yale, started really internalizing high society (“I’m a Gilmore! Do they know that? My ancestors came in on the mayflower.”)
@MR-hu3ht9 ай бұрын
I agree. The closer to her grandparents she got, the worse a person she became. Lorelei was right to cut them out of her life when she was 17, she really should have kept Rory away from them as well. Of course then there wouldn't have been much of a show.

Richard and Emily had their flaws but they were not evil. Lorelai should not have completely cut them out of her life maybe Rory would have had a better balance when she was younger. I do think that it was excessive praise and not wealth that caused Rory to be entitled and not take criticism. If Lorelai had let Rory take time to work over the summer and paid rent. Them Rory wouldn’t have gone to her grand parents and might have not taken a semester off. Although she still managed to graduate in three and a half years. It’s not Richard and Emily fault for some of her entitlement in the later seasons
@sweeney609 ай бұрын
@@4booky831yeah the problem with the later seasons is that they took Rory in a fairly realistic direction given all the things she had handed to her up to that point. The problem is, people didn’t watch this show for realism, they watched it for the humor and the escapism. It got too real over time

This is my all time favourite comfort show. Lauren and Alexis had fantastic Mother/Daughter chemistry, and I was always impressed by the actors' ability to deliver dialogue at a rapid fire pace.
@RainbowSludge9 ай бұрын
This is also one of my comfort shows, I grew up with it and I love the town and the NE. On the reboot, of course Rory ended up that way. It sucks but it was a natural progression of that character. She was a very spoiled girl and disrespectful to her mom’s rare attempts to discipline. And her mom was so immature that she let Rory run the show to avoid being like her own mom. Rory thought the world would be handed to her and of course it wasn’t because it never is. She would have been smart to use a little nepotism to get further. The whole Logan storyline, what a shame! He was the only one that she could have ended up with and the way it happened was so sad! But thank god Luke and Lorelei FINALLY tied their knot!!!

@@RainbowSludgeyeah lorelai did her best parenting Rory at such a young age but it sure had its problems but I don’t think it was a lack of discipline or being really spoiled per say, more that the circumstances and a part of Rory’s personality made her a calm and responsible girl, also knowing that she could always trust her mother ! But lorelai was a little too heavy on the « you’ll succeed at anything you’re the best » etc to avoid to be like her own mother like you said. That + her grandparents and all the town putting her on a pedestal sure made her lose a sense of reality in some sort :/ I still like Rory, she has her qualities and hope that will get to see her get a happy ending !

Um, this isn’t much of an analysis. Anyways, I think Gilmore Girls peaked fairly early on. A few episodes into season 1 until around halfway through season 2 is imo the peak of the series. The second half of season 4 until Luke and Lorelai’s first breakup in season 5 is also a peak. While seasons 6 and 7 and the revival are mostly slogs despite some standout moments. Ultimately, the show still holds up as solid comfort food even if some of it aged poorly and the eh final couple seasons are eh. I still feel some type of way concerning Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop never getting their awards due. It was the perfect “Emmy show” for that time. The only reason they kept getting snubbed was because it was on the WB.

I’ll always love the show but I *personally* cannot stand Rory in the later seasons. She has such a talent for noticing everyone else’s faults and privileges without ever acknowledging her own. Sure her dad is a deadbeat but she was surrounded by more love and support in her childhood than most people with functioning nuclear families. Once she was back in her grandparents’ lives she had every opportunity imaginable. She regresses after high school and there’s not a valid reason for her downfall that I can put my finger on. I love the show, but I don’t think I’d want to be friends with Rory in real life. We all have faults but as a tv character hers are particularly glaring.
@cinnymoongirl9 ай бұрын
Honestly if you don't care enough about the content you put out, you shouldn't make a video about it. There is so much missinformation in this video that i had to make a list. Calling Sookie Suckie? Minor blunder. but annoying as hell Saying Luke is annoyed by Lorelai going on a date with Rune? not true, he even laughs at the situation, saying Rune is silly, doesn't he know what lorelai could bring into his life by being so tall? (Rune's complaint about Lorelai is that she is too tall). Max proposes with A THOUSAND YELLOW DAISIES not 10 thousand. Rory and Paris don't get hazed by the Puffs, they were being initiated. Emily doesn't get mad about Lorelai bringing Christopher to friday night dinner, she gets upset when she hears Rory is out with Sherry, scared that Chris will rebuild a family with Rory, but also with Sherry instead of Lorelai, as she believes it was their destiny to be together. Chris doesn't get mad at Lorelai because he is not ready to take responsability for his actions, he gets upset becauase Lorelai realizes that now that Chris is settling down, she can let go of that hope she always had deep down, of them getting back together someday, without realizing she is technically blaming Chris for not being settled enough soon enough for her, which ends up sounding like all her failes relationships failed because she was never 100% due to having hidden hope to be with Chris. Lorelai expressed herself badly and Chris missinterpreted but gets understandably upset because of it. Absolutely nobody besides Luke and Rory have warmed up to Jess. The delinquent jerk is hated by everyone in town. Christopher does NOT arrive in Stars Hollow with Sherry, he shows up alone to check up on Rory after her accident, and releavs to Lorelai he and Sherry aren't working out, restarting his and Lor's relationship, all for it to crash and burn once Sherry calls him (while he is in town) and he finds out Sherry is pregnant. He doesn't wanna abandon another child, so he decides to go back to her, leaving Lorelai and Rory behind again. Rory is learning to let loose and have fun with Jess? Where the hell did you get this ridiculous bullshit from? She doesn't stop being "the good girl" she starts lying and hiding her true feelings about Jess because she knows everyone hates him (which good reason) and she is scared to leave Dean for him. But she does manage to cheat on Dean at Sookie's wedding, by kissing Jess. Lane doesn't date non korean boys to rebel. She went out on one date with a boy and she hated it and then she fell in love with Dave, a really nice boy who has a passion for music as big as her. They end up dating secretly at first so she doesn't upset her mother so no, no rebel actions except for her dying her hair, and immediately dying it back to black. Dean has been aware or Rory's feelings for Jess since like week 2 of him being in town, he finally gets fed up and breaks up with her during the dance marathon. Dean and Jess get into a physical fight because Dean saw Rory come out of a room crying and saw Jess come out right after her. This no minor incident, because this happened RIGHT AFTER JESS TRIED TO R A P E RORY. He pulled her into a bed, he pushed her and after she said stop like two times, he attempted to get her belt/pants off so she jumped up, making him mad, yelling at her, making her cry in her confusion abotu the whole thing. STOP MINIMIZING THIS CREEPS ACTIONS. Paris may have had a meltdown about not getting into Harvard and Rory might be the most special girl in the world who never fails, but at least she didn't sound like a crack head during her interview, like Paris did. Even with all the awards, perfect gpa and extra curricular activities, i wouldn't want to let Paris into any school, she's a psycho. Lorelai buy the Dragonfly with finantial help from Richard and Emily? You people are high or something. Lorelai pays back her parents for Chilton's tuition and has left over money destined to buy half of the Dragonfly Inn (Sookie will pay for the other half). When Rory can't get finantial aid for Yale, Rory decides to ask Emily and Richard for a loan by herself, so she can go to the school and reinstate friday night dinner. Lorelai is off the hook with the whole Yale thing and can use her leftover bday gift investment money to buy the Dragonfly. Rory gets valedictorian over Paris because they have the same perfect gpa but Paris is a psycho who everyone hates, except for like 3 people, so yeah, Rory it is.
@cinnymoongirl9 ай бұрын
Lorelai doesn't meet Jason in season 4, they have met when they were kids, their parents worked together for decades and they even went to camp together as teens. Richard has LUNCH once a year with Pennilyn, not dinner. Emily doesn't go on a drunken binge and moves out just randomly. The tension between her and Richard kept growing out of the insecurity she developed when finding out about the lunches, about Richard's mom never wanting her in their lives, and it all blows up when Richard instead of finding a suitable solution, he decides to cut off Jason from the business, go back to Jason's father's firm (the one that cut HIM off before and made him miserable) and ends up badmouthing Jason, on top of stealing ALL of THEIR clients from The Gilmore Group. This obviously puts a strain on Lorelai and her parent's relationship, leading Emily into a boiling point, right when they were sort of in peace and having friday night dinners again, Richard is risking everything again, so she ends up leaving their home, and eventually ending up separated with her in the main house and Richard in the pool house. Tj and Liz get married, Tj does wear tights, he loves them and he does not get hurt, nobody does that day. Luke and Lorelai go to the wedding together and they slow dance, leaving Lorelai surprised, seeing Luke in a different light, a potential love interest. Later that night he walks her home and asks her to go watch a movie. Neither one calls it a date, Lorelai even talks to Rory about not knowing what's going on. A few days later when the Dragonfly has their test run with some town friends including Luke, him and Lorelai kiss for the first time but have no time to talk about it, when Dean and Rory's "adventure" take all of Lorelais attention. Next day Rory is still upset at Lorelai for criticizing her for sleeping with a married man. Emily shares the news about the separation with Richard, she announces she is going to Europe, Lorelai nudges Rory to go with her, and that same day she finds out Luke has gone to Tj and Liz's fair to help them since they have gotten hurt. They still haven't started dating officially. They do start dating SIX WEEKS after, when Rory comes back from Europe, Luke comes back the same day, they have their first date that week. Christopher's dad dies, Rory goes to comfort him, smooth out their relationship and give support. Lorelai does the same, but with an entire bottle of tequila at hand. She hides this from Luke. Richard rear ends EMILY'S CAR not the car of the man she dated. After the car thing Richard takes Emily back home and tells her he found out about her date, she tells him nothing happened it was just dinner and she wouldn't say that if it weren't true, and he tells her that he only had lunches with Pennilyn and nothing happened and he wouldn't say that if that weren't true and they end up silently driving. When he drops her home, he tells her he doesn't wanna go back to the pool house and he tells her to come home. And they make up. At Emily and Richard's vow renewal Lorelai tells Luke about comforting Chris and drinking all night. Christopher through slight digs at Luke by talking about Lorelai's family like showing how much he knows about them. Chris ends up drinking a bunch, ending up drunkenly screaming at Logan through a door, and then at Luke saying that Lorelai and him are meant to be together and everyone knows that, even Emily. Logan's family treats Rory like crap and his father as an apology gives her an internship, to set her up, leading her on, and later on, destroying her very fragil ego. After Rory moves in with the Gilmores, she and Logan are smooth sailing, they do not take a break up until the very end of her time in the grandparents house. When Jess shows up to see her unexpectedly, Logan also shows up, acting all jealous and pompous about Jess, making Rory realize that she's throwing her life away drinking and partying all the time. This plus the fight she had with Emily at a Russian tea party, pushes her into moving in with Lane for a day or two until she gets a job at the same newspaper office she interned for before, calling Lorelai and telling her she's going back to school, she got a job and she is going to see her. Next day Lorelai and Rory are at Luke's and Rory tells her mom she and Logan are on a break for the time being. When Rory gets back to the Yale paper, it is going down in quality, Rory tried advicing Paris to take it down a notch, so that the staff isn't to stressed but she squeezes them even more, eventually leading most of the staff to quit. When Rory has a date set up with Logan she finds the paper offices almost empty, nothing is done, and Paris is bunkered down working by herself. Rory then springs into action, with help from Bill and others, she gets a full staff working that same night, having Logan show up and help her and the staff save the day and finally send the full files to the printer, to get it printed on time. Logan and Rory have a small dinner at the office and they get back together. That same week Paris is voted out, and while people are voting for a new editor, and without her throwing her hat into the ring, everyone decides to vote for Rory due to her actions saving the paper that night. This leads Paris into kicking Rory out when she found out, prompting Logan to ask Rory to move in with him. She didn't run to him, he ran to her to save her, and they were already back together for a few days, they don't get back together because of this. Some time later at Honor's wedding (Logan' sister) Rory finds out that during their "break" Logan slept with a bunch of Honor's friends. Leading her to believe he CHEATED on her. This gives her courage enough to be a bitch, visit Jess, kiss him and go back home, claiming she loves Logan anyways. Rory messes up a few things for Logan, turning off his alarms, cutting his articles and writing her own, etc. She is petty up to the point that he goes to do a dangerous stunt, she is a bitch about it, barely says goodbye and he almost dies, making her realize she has been a bitch and she could have lost him, and she was cold and distant just to be petty. They both apologize to each other. They are now officially back together. He graduates and his father decided he is going to London, Logan didn't choose this, he didn't decide anything. Logan has his accident the same night of Lane's wedding, the same night Lorelai gets really drunk and realizes Luke is never gonna take the plunge and marry her at this pace. Next day miss Patty covers for Lorelai with Luke and tells her she is getting him to the altar someday, and she is affected by that SOMEDAY, that lingers in her. Some time later Emily invites Lorelai and Christopher to dinner, attended also by a new guest, Carolyn, a psychologist friend of the family, who Emily wanted to set up with Chris. The night ends and Lorelai has a small impromptu session with Carolyn who makes her open her eyes even more, telling her she either needs to be ok with waiting for Luke, or she has to speak up and ask for what she wants (to finally get married). This makes Lorelai run to Luke's diner, where she asks him to elope right then and there, because waiting is torture for her and she feels like she hasn't been herself for a while and she doesn't wanna go on like this, she made a commitment and she needs to make it happen. Luke says he needs more time, he doesn't like ultimatums and Lorelai is done, so she leaves. Unfortunately she leaves and ends up at Chris' door, and sleeps with him that very same night. Lorelai doesn't back to dating Christopher because of this epifany she had. She had been questioning herself for a while yes, but suddenly she slept with Chris and he confided in her that she is his endgame, she is IT for him, and being so fresh out of an engagement, so confused and conflicted, this man appears to be emotionally available, something she lacked with Luke in the last season, so she fell for it, she accepted Chris back into her life, going do far into it that she let him push her into marriage. This is beyond out of character for her, Lorelai getting married without Rory being present? Nope, this isn't it. After some time of fake happiness, Luke needs Lorelai to write him a character reference for his custory dispute. She does, and it is such an endearing letter, so heartfelt and full of emotion, that when Chris finds it, he feels immediately threatened by Luke insecure in himself since Luke has basically been Rory's father far longer than Chris has. Chris has been absent from Lorelai's home for a few days, and suddenly Richard has a heart attack, Chris is still ignoring all of Lorelai's calls and messages so he isn't there up until the very end. By that time Luke has already ran to her aid, offering warm food and anything he can do to help. Chris shows up and sees Luke, who out of respect leaves immediately. After such a while of Chris running from Lor for being insecure and immature about a reference letter, not giving Lor a chance to explain anything, he ditches her in her and her family's worst moment. This is the last straw for Lorelai, Christopher has to go. They are getting a divorce. Rory rejects a good job offer, choosing to wait to see if she got a certain scollarship or internship thing. She doesn't and he job offer is off the table already. She magically get a chance to do something else and the shows tries to tie everything with a nice bow. She hasn't earned this opportunity but OH WELL. In summary, this video was very ill informed, with tons of incorrect things, mixed timelines and much judgement towards Rory and Lorelai and not enough judgment about the immature man childs the show portrays as love interests.

Yeah but no but yeah but no There are so many mistakes in this. When was TJ injured at the wedding? Dean and Rory don't keep the relationship secret they are in the car because they live in situations that are not ideal. This just seems like someone who watched the show with the sound off and doesn't like it.

Even though I feel that The Take’s hosts will have to do something better next time. Unfortunately, they’ve just made what is essentially a boring summary instead of a true analysis. One of them is likely using too much chat GPT (or other generative AI softwares) and I’m unfazed about it.

The funny thing about Gilmore Girls, for me, is that I used to watch it with my daughter when it first ran on tv and we loved it. I have tried to rewatch it more recently, and so has my daughter, and I just cannot: the constant rat-a-tat-tat-tat dialogue and white privilege smug are the flaws I can't overcome or excuse anymore.

As a teenager I loved this show but since we had to wait a year between seasons, the cracks began to show when it started up again. I gave up on it after season 3 and after watching this recap, I have no regrets. Justice for Dean!

I used to love this show. Now it makes me cringe. The casual homophobia; the unawareness of privilege (or perhaps the expectation of better treatment because of their privilege) I related to Loreleis trauma of having cold and controlling parents but I couldn’t understand why she had such an aversion to therapy. I also think they should have made Lane queer. It seems like ASP was going in that direction but got blocked by the network. But to make her get pregnant? They couldn’t have made a worse decision.
@automnevert9 ай бұрын
They should have paired with someone better and more interesting than Zack, at least. The shy and mild-mannered bass player guy would have been a better fit

I just watched this show for the first time. Everyone says Rory sucks but imo Lorelai SUCKS and Rory is simply a product of that
@josefk74379 ай бұрын
This show was interesting because the two main characters were the least interesting characters. The show gets a lot better when imagined from any other character's point of view. Imagining the show from the viewpoints of Jess, or Kirk, or Richard and Emily's point of view make the show a lot more interesting.

I’m only up to season 6 but oh man did Rory get annoying with her main character syndrome. She was always entitled but she’s just straight up unbearable right now.

Would you say Gilmore Girls is for teenagers or adults? I know it's 'both', but as there are two main characters and one is a teenager and the other an adult, if you had to pick one, would you say it's aimed at adults or teenagers, if 'both' isn't an option?

You didn't analise this show. You told us what happend. How is it anything new? So disapointing. And with a bunch of untrue info as well. For example: Rory accepts the opportunity from Logan's dad, because its a good one. She doesn't want to prove him wrong: its a half assed apology on M's part, because they were rude to Rory at dinner. Did you guys watch the show?
