Check out my new favourite feature in Lightburn! This can save you time and money when creating text or numbers that need to change within the final piece. Variable text is so fun and fast, I have been working out different ways to apply it to my laser projects! Look out for more tutorials about the best way you can use the variable text feature in Lightburn to make your projects unique and fast! THANKS A MILLION! I had watched one of your other videos about arrays and asked about sequential numbers. So I did the Search in KZbin and found what I was looking for. I have 2000 brass asset tags for a local company for their equipment inventory and was entering the numbers manually one at a time on the array. I can fit 50 at a time in the JIG i have attached to my Laser and have completed 100 so far. Was not looking forward to the next 1900! Now I am getting excited about doing them! Thanks so much for all your info videos. Thanks from Greg in a small town called TEXAS!

Happy Holidays to you and your family (From Coal Creek New Brunswick Canada)

Thanks for the feedback, Terry. So glad that these tutorial videos help new Lightburn users. I will have some more beginner level videos coming out soon, so keep your eyes 👀 open. I would also join the Facebook group so others in the community can share what they are doing and help answer any questions. The link is in the video description. What are you planning to make with your laser in January?

Helpful video after I weeded out the impertinent stuff like the grid. Just use the serial number feature with variable text dd and it works great.

Interesting and almost what I was researching for. I have a project where only one part can be lasered at a time as it needs to be held in a rotating chuck. Would love the serial # to increase with every press of the foot pedal or every firing sequence each time a new part is loaded. thanks

Thank you for the video. I was just considering how I could make serial number tags (aka Assest tags). You mentioned sign material with a thin top layer that could be burned off. I did a Google search and did not find any. Would you please share a link or the search string that would return the correct items?

Thanks, Jess. Let me know what size tags you want to make and I'll find you a link 😉

@@LaserLivestream I have two applications: small "asset" tags to mark property size about 1.5 by 2.5 and what you showed in the video which looked like sign materials. Think of a craft show booth with laser cut signs (multicolor) saying "Wine Corkers", "Bowls" etc. When I wrote my original message I was thinking of sign material where I could burn off the top surface exposing a different color.

This isn't about serial numbers, but … should borax be rinsed or neutralized after lasering? I can't find anything that addresses this question. Thanks, Gil!

We want to do this with a fiber laser. We only burn one tag at a time. Is there a way to run the burn and have the number automatically increment for the next burn?

great video but I would have done this :ddd/500

Excellent information, but I have not found a way to make a consecutive series starting from 00001 onwards, I must make a number starting from 00001 to 7000 and when I start it only marks 1 without the zeros. I would be eternally grateful for your help. Greetings from Colombia.

Use zero in front of letter d (for digit) for how many placeholders. Example: 0ddd will print 000. Make sure base text box/ set has serial number selected up top in front area and offset 0. Variable text menu has current:1, Start:1, End: 7000. Advance by units of each set in your array configuration.

I love this feature too. This is seriously why I love Lightburn. It is always adding new features! What are you planning to use variable text for in your next project David?

@@LaserLivestream This would be very useful for creating asset number labels for equipment. It will save a lot of time 😊
