This brings back so many happy memories of my late partner also called Linda she passed away over a year ago, she suffered with Parkinson's, we rented a cottage at the top of the lane over that narrow bridge, it was hard pushing her wheelchair up that hill, but Staithes has to be the most important memory of my life with her. Such a very beautiful place, thank you for this excellent video, I think your best 👍

Ah really sorry to hear of your loss William but really happy that I've been able to bring back such happy memories for you! I can't even imagine what it would be like pushing a wheelchair up that hill - you must have legs like a strongman now!

Sorry for yor loss. Visit Stathes on a warm summer day. Sit and enjoy the view. Visit the lifeboat station and put some folding money into the collecting box in memory of Linda, then come home and plan to visit again. We did when we lost 2 close friends. Bless you and stay safe.

I am Argentina, and for us it is very expensive to travel abroad to know. I could also say my country is better for its landscapes (Aconcagua almost 7000 meters above sea level, Iguazú Falls, Perito Moreno Glacier) 4 climates and natural resources. Staithes - just up the road from us. The senior resident women wearing traditional plain long skirts and black bonnets, would sit outside their cottages with their spinning wheels. I would climb down the harbour ladder to swim. No heath and safety concerns when I was a youngster. Glad I survived to tell the tale! The North Yorkshire coast inspires my children's coastal adventures, Ellie Booton's Journals.

How things have changed. I remember Staithes (Steers as used to be called by locals) in the 50,s and 60's as a working fishing village. The times spent singing hymns in the Cod and Lobster on a Sunday with family and friends, still make happy memories.

Thank you for this. I am a Yorkshire lad born and bred, but only been to Staithes once, when the BBC filmed an episode of "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates" here in 1998. My late godmother, a TV bit parter and extra made what was to be the last of her TV appearances here. I went along to watch filming, and after she had a quiet word with the director, I was allowed to be in the same scene (stood opposite the circular steps near the harbour). First time seeing Staithes again in 22 years. Happy memories, thank you.

Thank you for this, a lovely place, now on my list. I actually went on a school visit to Staithes and Whitby in 1977. Two things i remember, hopefully correctly. We stayed in what im sure were old army barracks near Staithes. Long green wooden buildings in a row with bunk beds down each side. Im sure i found them on google but they were all painted and lots of flowers, maybe turned into chalets ? Also we all sat up high on a steep hillside drawing the scenery, sort of a valley looking down on the bay/harbour but the thing i remember about it was there were pigeon coops dotted about where we sitting and also on the opposite side. Sorry long time ago so hard to remember details. Does anyone else remember any of this. I remembered a third thing lol We visited a museum that had a black mummified hand in a glass cabinet. Ive subscribed as im always looking for places to visit and stay. Ive tended to stick to the South Coast as its nearer and weather seems easier to rely on but will definitely when possible re visit Whitby and Staithes. Thank you again

Love Staithes. When we first visited and parked at the top of the hill, I wasn't sure what to expect. On walking down the hill I realised that it was indeed a lovely little village. The granddaughters loved the cardboard statue of Bernard Cribbins, from Old Jack's Boat, which was on display when we were there. Off now to watch your video of Saltburn by the Sea as we tried to find this place once but failed miserably!!
