There is just something about a good ol British seaside. The nostalgia is amazing, especially if you lived in the 20th century. I remember 90s era of the seafronts and it was everything

I lived in Lowestoft in the late 1970s/early 80s. I have fond memories. It was lovely to see south of the bridge, where I briefly lived. I would sometimes walk there and swim there but mostly used the lovely sandy beaches north if the bridge/town centre, where I lived the longest. I now have a bout of nostalgia.

I was born in Lowestoft in 1947 and left it in 1968 to go live overseas. Lovely to visit it by video and remember my childhood playing on the beach around Claremont pier. It was always a quieter place than Great Yarmouth, which was full of artificial entertainment places. The sea and the sand were always attractions enough on a sunny day for children back then.

I've been a few times, last time was last month at the first light festival, it was packed! couldn't move for people, so different in this video! i like this part of Lowestoft along the sea front, lovely sandy beach which is a blue flag award winning so definitely not one of worst imo. There is a thatched roof cafe called The Thatch up on the green and a little Garden park. Further down is Pakefield cliffs and further still is Kessingland with cliffs and sand dunes. The only thing i don't like is the actual town centre, that could do with a refurb.

That brought back so many memories, my grandparents always had a beach hut for 2 weeks every July we had lots of family in the area who all used to visit. My brother and I used to play the penny machines in the Claremont Pier, use the putting green and walk to Kessingland Gardens to go on the electric boats. The fantastic sandy beach looks just as good 60 years on from those happy times.

What a lovely place ,i passed through years ago and remember driving along the main road and lights similar to railway crossing lights started flashing and the road began to lift apparently a ship was coming in , scared me to death to see the road lift ,is the bridge still there ? i cannot see why it has such a low rating the beach looks ace but what did it for me was the rows of beach huts and the rare upstair/downstair ones so colourful ,the ladies were having a whale of a time and love the wheel chair access to the beach hope the ambulance call out wasnt too serious and the person is well again, great relaxing video as usual ,but have you done one of clacton on sea and ive missed it .

Thanks for the video it's nice to see what my old stomping ground looks like now I was born and raised in Lowestoft and used to love walking along the beach especially during summer going to and from work would pass there I have been abroad for almost 16 years now and have wondered how Lowestoft has turned out and it's a shame to see the beach is not as good as it used to be back when I last seen it in 2008 seems some of it has been lost to tide and all the rocks in place now As for the fountains I don't think I ever recall seeing them operational that much and think many living there would agree that those fountains was a waste kf money and should have kept the public toilets as would have been useful for beach goers during summer Well hope can see some more videos of the town see how things have changed But again thanks for the video well worth the watch
@katknights2819 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for great videos.. Lived here all my life and I was horrified to see the Lowestoft beach near the south pier, The rocks just dumped over the sea-wall to act as sea defence has just ruined the beach. I recall when the beach was full of people lapping up the sunshine and the sand was golden. Now the beach near the south pier - well it's not a beach any more, It's awful. The Lowestoft council should be ashamed of themselves, put the rocks further out to sea would be better but Health and Safety plus it would cost the council more money meaning less in there back pockets. But the beach up near and past the Claremont pier towards Pakefield still looks great. The council needs to clean up the sea-front. Right now it's a shambles. Fix the water fountains and remove the grass clumps on the beach would be a starters. CLEAN THE PLACE UP East Suffolk [Lowestoft Council]

The comment "Yarmouth is a dump" is (in my view) incorrect, the town is very much like numerous seaside resorts that are suffering from ecanomic problems. Remeber this,,,Lowestoft was this countries great fishing industry, apart from the numerous vessles that brought home their catch the town also employed a huge number in this fishing port. I think its a town worthy of a visit, although near to Norwich its still situated in good old Suffok.

I've been going to lowestoft since I Was 11 years of age I'm 66 next month. Started going with parents then at 16 met my husband and we went every year until the pandemic , very sad I can no longer go as don't drive and hubby passed away 2021 so seeing this has cheered me up as I get to still see it. When we went it had always won the award for best beach I'm Britain so don't know where they get worst 5th beach that's rubbish, if I could I'd go again with my little dog we stayed on the caravan site in pakefield apart from a couple years when they were full so we rented a lovely little cottage in pakefield not far from the jolly sailors, we stayed in hemsby 3 times but would have a ride into pakefield for dogs to go on pebble beach as can only go on sandy beach out of season which is understandable. We had 5 holidays in bowness on windermere but would still have one same year in pakefield lowestoft. We loved it there.

The 'water fountains' shut down during covid... and never re-opened. Pity .. because it was always full of kids going wild and having fun. They even had the fountains synced with classical music.

The beach is wonderful and that whole coastline is superb. I wish I could move there. We walked all the way to Kessingland from South Beach - taking the bus back! - and met many locals doing the same, and witnessed just a beautiful coast. The criticism of Lowestoft is directed towards the town centre, not the coastline, and towards what once was a busy, thriving area between the two pears, which you now see cordoned off by security railings and lined with coastal defenses. This is where 'Childrens' Corner' used to be! And now it's just a bunch of rocks. The recollection of what used to be still reside in the town's collective memories , I'm afraid.

I think the trouble has been in the last few years it has had attractions either cancelled or they just stopped going there. There used to be things going on a lot there during the summer to draw crowds in like the Lowestoft Airshow, 1940s weekend, fairs, fates, vintage car shows etc, now most have stopped and so has seen a decline. The first light festival happened last month which has been sucessful and drew in the crowds, it needs more of that.

The end of the pier has been derelict for many years, the new owners are fundraising and have started to build it out again, it’s about 15-20 metres so far I believe, they are doing a good job but it’s incredible costly. Take a look at the video from walk with me Tim, he done a behind the scenes with the pier owners.

I lived there for a while until 8 years ago. I liked it but I do know what you mean. I notice from this video that the promenade area has been given a full upgrade. The town has suffered over recent years from a lack of investment and poor transport links. Considering what the rail links once were, they are deplorable now. I do hope the new Gull crossing will bring some benefits. It should certainly ease traffic congestion.
