Richard once said that Elvis Presley was "a blessing"...because Elvis LOVED "black music", and brought it to a white audience, and brought MANY black artists into more opportunity than they ever could have attained otherwise...

From the androgyny of Prince, to the vocal mannerisms of Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, Little Richard's impact on pop culture was ubiquitous. James Brown began his career as a Little Richard impersonator, Hendrix started playing guitar in Richard's band and Michael Jackson deemed him a major influence. A pioneering figure in the development of soul and funk, Little Richard is most remembered as a founding father of early Rock'n'roll. He blew the lid off the 50s with game changing songs such as "Tutti Frutti" and "Good Golly Ms Molly",becoming a benchmark by which excellence is judged. He acheived all of this under the glaring shadow of segregation, often being denied radio airplay. Bravely fighting against systematic racism, Richard shattered the colour line in music, changing American pop culture forever and becoming one of the most influential figures in entertainment. Long live The Innovator, The Originator and The Architect of Rock'n' roll

I don't know how one can calculate Little Richards contributions to American culture. But it was great. He is the true father of Rock-n-Roll, in my opinion. His influence casts a long shadow over all pop music that came later. R&B, Funk, Rock, Punk, disco etc all owe something to him. His energy on stage was unmatched. He was the first gender bending superstar. He was the first gay rock icons. He paved the way for black artists to become mainstream to the horror of post-war white suburban parents. Cheers to an innovator, one of the brightest stars of the 20th century, and a true legend. Rest in Power Richard. We love you.

Thanks for this Noel. I think it's hard for today's younger folks to understand (or even believe) what it was like for Black musicians back when Little Richard came along. When I was growing up in the South, we (Blacks) didn't hear black music on the radio and if Black musicians were ever on t.v., our t.v. screen would suddenly fade to black. When the Black artist finished, our t.v. screen would fade back to lights, camera, action! And this was not in the 1800s!

@yayastedi2 жыл бұрын
@@bradhuskers Totally agree. He always fell back on his work from the 50's. The work that actually made a difference and inspired people. But it's his own fault, he kept going in and out of music. No king has to tell everyone he's king...

@@anythingchannel9326 Are you educated? We already know that. During the 1950's. That's the way it was. However, little richard lived decades longer. Black artists were now being played all over after the 1950's. Little richard lived decades past that time, AND STILL couldn't reach elvis's massive body of critically acclaimed recordings. Meaning that little richard wasn't as diverse as elvis. Otherwise, after the 50's, little richard would've been able to surpass elvis. But rhe reality is that he was nowhere near elvis's level of soul, depth and diversity. He didn't have anywhere near elvis's talent.
