"Anfield staged one of its finest ever matches as Liverpool fought back from three goals down to claim a 3-3 draw against Manchester United.
Goals from Bruce, Giggs and Irwin saw United race into a 3-0 lead withing the opening 23 minutes and a rout was feared.
Nigel Clough then popped up to offer the Reds a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back and on 35 minutes he rifled home a second to reduce the deficit further.
With the Kop roaring them on in the second half Liverpool poured forward in search of an equaliser and it finally came with ten minutes remaining.
Substitute Stig Bjornebye crossed from the left and, like a phoenix from the flames, Neil Ruddock rose above the United defence to power a header past a helpess Schmeichel and complete an amazing comeback."
