...Gimmick or Revolutionary? (The Medium Review)

What is this a Devil's Tea Party? Join me for my The Medium review as I look at the impressive dual reality technology, laugh at the awful writing and try to understand why this horror game is lacking in any real horror.
The Medium is the first exclusive for the Xbox Series X, with Bloober Team at the helm (Layers of Fear, the Blair Witch Project). It's their most ambitious game to date, but poor writing, a lack of innovation in gameplay and the lack of any real horror is The Medium's biggest failure. And while there is good in The Medium, in it's narrative, it's method of story telling and it's environmental design, there's unfortunately a lot bad.

Since it's only on the Series X, I've not been able to play this... but I'm hoping it'll be a game I just randomly pick up one day in the future and love! 😂

I think you'll enjoy it if you're into walking simulators and narrative driven games. The story is decent, but there's room for improvement overall. Let me know if you ever check it out!

I saw your post on Reddit. I really liked this game was a different change of pace for most type of horror games. Only critique is it felt short and I wish there was more monster encounters. And this game was more suspenseful and adventure versus pure horror/fear.

Yeah it was great as a narrative driven walking simulator. I enjoyed exploring and interacting with objects to learrn about the story. I personally wanted more horror though, especially as it was marketed as a horror game. I think the horror was was supposed to be there, but it just wasn't executed that well. Overall, I enjoyed it even with it's issues and enjoyed it for what it was. Thanks for taking the time to check out the review too

I never really been an XBOX player but really wanted to give it a try this time around with the new XBOX and this game as an exclusive made me want to hop on board but now Ill have to wait it out a bit, at least until HellBlade 2 comes out. Overall, enjoyed your review!

Thanks! I'd say it's worth trying out if you go get an Xbox, even to check out the dual reality mechanic, it's pretty cool. Let me know if you decide to play it one day 🙂

I have to be honest, I’m a little disappointed. I was really excited for this game!! But it sounds like it’s OK game with great moments. Aw well..... 🤷🏽‍♂️

I think it's okay overall if you're up for a standard walking simulator game. There were a lot of times I was enjoying it as the narrative is great, even with the bad lines of dialogue haha. I just wish there was more horror and the gameplay was more adventurous
