Fantastic content. Fantastic teacher. Fantastic all around product. Having said that, i find it absolutely hilarious the amount of premium content available from this one source for a free program. Just goes to show that nothing is really free, at least not if you don't want to have to reinvent the wheel.

There's also a different way to "heal" using wavelet decompose to edit textures & colors separately. Michael also has a video on that. @Davies Media Design perhaps mentioning & linking it in the description?

At 18:09 you say: "and let me make sure this image layer is selected first"...What do you mean by that?... Since there is only one layer, it has to be selected...or am I missing something very basic?
@DaviesMediaDesign3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes GIMP deselects the layer, making it inactive. This may just be an issue when using my recording software but I figured I would mention it in case anyone else's layer wasn't active before performing the task.

I was looking for a way to clean up skin in game screenshots. This was helpful. Sometimes when I highlight a screen the background can show square pixel shapes in the shadows/highlights etc. What's the best way to smooth those out? At the moment I use Corel Paintshop Pro coz I like their Push, Soften, Lighten/Darken, Smudge, Dodge options that are all in one section. I usually bump up smudge and try to smear the edges of the square shapes to blend them more.

I have the following problem with Heal and Clone. I left click and select a source, but when I pass over what I want to fix the tool copies the blemish and not the skin selected. Happens whether I hold down the left mouse button or not. version 2.10.30

The earlier Heal tool made it possible to select the area and then heal by taking pixels from the adjacent outer area and close in. I can't locate that now

Great stuff, Michael. Always difficult to make something pretty complex and technical come across as fairly easy, :-). Only good teachers manage that. I do have one comment. Please be aware that your audience is not solely comprised of native English speakers. Although I have a lot experience working with colleagues from across the globe, I find that I too have to rewind regularly in order to follow your explanations. Speaking a littke slower would go a long way to help us.

Good day Mike. Would you recommend always using the Sample merged method when editing? I've often wondered about the fixed option for the clone cluster of tools. Also thanks for mentioned the Wacom option on this video. I have watched your other video on the wacom and also noticed you are still using your "partener's" mouse 🙊. Do you prefer the mouse over your wacom medium. BTW another great video Brother!!
@DaviesMediaDesign4 жыл бұрын
I do recommend sticking with "Sample Merged" as it is far more non-destructive than editing directly on the layer you are healing (unless you don't want to pull pixels from all layers - in that case turn off Sample Merged). She still has my mouse, so I'm stuck with her mouse lol - but I don't always prefer the mouse to the tablet. Thanks for watching!

Hello Davies, I have a question. When it comes to images whose background is set to transparent sometimes, some pixels inside the foreground too becomes transparent. In this case, can we fix it only using a brush? Is there any need to add a new layer at first and after converting the background into transparent shall we merge the original picture's pixels into the edited one to get the same pixels without having to select some pixels near the destination. Please, tell the right way to do this.

i know im doing something stupid but why is it that nothing happens when i click the button for clone/heal on an image but in history it says i did something? is there a box im not checking?
@DaviesMediaDesign4 жыл бұрын
Did you ctrl+click first to select a source area before painting on your destination area? You may also need to make sure “ sample merged” is checked in the tool options if you’re trying to paint on a new layer.

Has anyone ever had a problem where their healing tool is "healing" way lighter than the source that's been chosen? It's become completely useless because I have no idea how to fix this. I've reset it and everything but it's still way brighter than the picture itself
@remyllebeau772 жыл бұрын
This doesn't help when the tool refuses to do anything. I click to set a source location, left click and move mouse around, and ZERO pixels have been changed, even when I try to mess with all sorts of settings and layers. Nothing works. This stupid program is so insanely frustrating sometimes.

This woman probably needs a lot of healing tool from a therapist. We can see all her blemishes under magnification. Lol. I would use the cloning tool instead of the airbrush. An issue I have wtih a soft brush is that the texture is erased in the transition area where two fragments are averaged together. Sometimes fewer strokes with a sharp edge work better.
