saw them 20 years ago at a mall concert. most people didn't know who they were until they started playing the amazing amount of hits they had. he stopped the show to joke and say "yes we are that band from the radio" they still sound good.

Same for me. One of the best albums I have. Not a bad song on there.

Robin Wilson is so heartwarming. I wore out multiple copies of New Miserable Experience. Humble brag: I saw the Gin Blossons open open for a band in a little club and I stood down front and danced to all their songs, even though I'm shy. At the end, Robin leaned down and said, "Thank YOU for listening to us." A full year later they had a hit record. Thry deserved more

What's left to say about Robin Wilson's voice, except that it's God's gift to alternative rock. Never tire of listening to this guy sing.

Very nice gentleman too. Met him twice, very down to earth to his fans. Gin Blossoms are one of my all time favorites

Still awesome after all these years. I just realized, he sounds like Glen Phillips of TTWS. Another gem from the 90s.

Too bad that great music like this ends up with a moniker like alternative. This is real music not the angry or hate a lot of rock is.

I was fortunate to see them in concert in Honolulu in October 2013. I won tickets through 105.9 KPOI (now known as ALT 105.9). It was a great show and this band will always hold a place in my heart as their music is terrific and these songs really, to me, define the '90s.

I don’t think Robin Wilson will ever know how meaningful his songs have been to me. Literally changed my life when I was in my early 20’s.

You mean Doug Hopkins’ songs?
@MrPickledede6 ай бұрын
Well if it was up to Doug unfortunately, I don't think most of us would have heard his songs, he was a depressed brooding drunk that nearly ruined it for the Gin Blossoms by barely ever showing up to recording sessions and when he did he was smashed. I am sorry but I am not angry at Robin and the guys for doing the only thing that turned out would make them big.
@MrPickledede6 ай бұрын
Oh and unless you were paying attention 3 of the 5 songs on this set list were NOT written by Doug Hopkins: Follow you down, Allison Road and Till I hear it from you @@McNair-eo8ee

Still playing in 2014 wow. They should go to some of those festivals (such as Firefly in Delaware or Governors Ball in NYC) since we have a definite shortage of "high-seniority" acts and have too few mid-aged or older show-goers.

I love this band, I really do. But, I was on their site and was disappointed that when I clicked on the about section, and they went through the career of the band. They had no mention of Doug. I realize the demons he fought, and ultimately lost too, but it is truly terrible not to acknowledge the person who penned the songs that led to their success. Doug was a very gifted songwriter and guitar player. This is much like the members of Warrant not performing at Jani Lane's Memorial Show. And the guy wrote everything that made those guys famous, and a household name.

@teresarosario25715 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it's their management that decided to let Doug's case rest...its not gonna be a good impression on a band coming back from the dead to bring out issues abt their past,...some would prefer to silence em...keep phase goin ya know.. Still impressive though... Gives nostalgia to anyone like me who loves them
@davidwright83715 жыл бұрын
Just the fact they calked thier second album congratulations im sorry as a shot at doug a year after he died shows what dickheads they are Fuck them
@christophergargaro9595 жыл бұрын
@@davidwright8371 I don't think it was as a shot at Doug. Robin said it was because that was the reaction fans usually gave them since Doug died just as NME was rising up the charts. It was to say congrats on the success but sorry to hear about Doug. I always felt the title represented their inner turmoil at that time. Elated that you finally 'made it' in the music business but having a hole because one of the guys that helped get you there was no longer around. Sort of like they could never fully enjoy the success of NME because it's visionary was Doug and he wasn't there. Just my $0.02 though.

New Miserable Experience was probably the most important record next to Jeff Buckleys' Grace during the summer of '94.Too bad Doug Hopkins didn't get to enjoy the ride.

@Noble Failures True, but many older rockers who manage to hang on get to receive the adulation of fans and appreciation of their music decades after their peak, and seeing the continued joy your life's work has created must feel pretty fantastic. I still listen to Gin Blossoms today. Doug's music has aged so much better than his contemporaries. I never want to hear Nirvana or Pearl Jam again, but New Miserable Experience still resonates with me.

+AstroKnott Please forgive my ignorance on the band but was Doug the original front man ?
@astroknott52638 жыл бұрын
+Jeffrey K guitarist. He was a mean drunk so they janked his royalties and fired him. Wrote the songs that made them famous in the first place, "Hey Jealousy", "Lost Horizons", "Found Out About You".
@jeffreyk97438 жыл бұрын
Thank you , again forgive my ignorance on the line up
@AhNee7 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey, they didn't 'jank' his royalties. He got his royalties, but apparently Doug told people he didn't, and some people still believe that. If they hadn't fired him, you'd never have heard of them, because his drinking and fucking-up nearly lost them their record contract. They were given the choice of fire him, or forget recording and go home.
