Bill Leen IS one of the greatest Basists! I'm primarily a Guitarist, but when Gin Blossoms came out, it was the first real time I started paying attention to the Bass. Bill is so unique in his approach to Bass playing - he definitely doesn't get the props and credit he deserves! Great interview!

i wonder if the song that Robin mentions, the one that the Japanese Cigarette maker offered them a lot of money for, was a song Doug had written, and maybe some of them felt guilty about what had happened, and thought they couldn't , in good conscience make any more money from Doug's songwriting considering how it all ended for him. maybe when NME came out, sad to say, they needed the money more, and that's why they let the record company do what they did to doug, but now since they had more financial security, they could allow themselves to approach this dilemna from a purely ethical way.. sad that money effects these types of decisions this way

I love that Robin mentions a huge part of the Gin Blossoms sound was he and Jesse's excellent harmonies - I had a chance to talk to Jesse and he's such a humble guy. Would love to catch him solo sometime too - just a great songwriter who relies more on pure melodic content rather than crazy flashy guitar chops. Awesome band and really nice dudes!
