« Gin it» is a song that was written by my sister Valentine a long time ago. I happened to find these lyrics while cleaning our childhood home and figured I would put a melody over them.
Valentine actually explained what went through her head in the process of writing this song :
« I helped my grandmother move houses a couple of years ago. She had just lost her husband and couldn’t bear to go through her old stuff in the attic so I went up to do it for her. I came upon her old vinyl machine and a collection of vinyl records straight out of the 60s.
When I played the Joan Baez record, it sounded really rusty, as if it was still stuck in 1963. It was a true experience during which I felt transported to another decade. I remember feeling profoundly nostalgic about an era I hadn’t even lived. »
The melody that was chosen was inspired by this time period, with a jazzy-soft sound.
I deeply thank the musicians Maxime (piano), Antoine (drums) and Thibo (bass) for bringing this song (and feeling) to life !
