Very cool! I always thought polka beat was a slower punk beat. Sometimes I’ll cue up some real upbeat songs by Ursprung Buam and try to play along, very addictive! It drives my neighborhood crazy but it’s so much fun! And doing the “ ja-ha-hooeys” & cries too. 😂

Excellent analysis. Too many polka drummers lose sight of the basic 2/4 rhythm. They try too hard to be sophisticated, throwing in a lot of funk, and lose the groove.
