Why not just watch Jeff Porcaro's lesson on how to play it? When he plays it he seems to go to a different place and out comes the groove.

it takes a little practice? Insanely difficult groove. been working on it for sooo long! Every part on this song is executed at a super high level. Check out rick beato's breakdown. Love your vids.

I'm working on it for our Yacht Rock group. Every limb is challenging, however the chorus for me, the bass drum , is the most challenging. I've found that practicing every limb independently at a lower bpm like 157 helps

Why do u want to put yourself up against THE MASTER of this beat, JEFF PORCARO? U must have one huge ego to put this up when we can get it direct from JEFF.
@Aristillus17 жыл бұрын
Bert Hamer probably the most useless comment in all of youtube community. she never puts herself up against porcaro, she has her own unique and fresh way of explaining the groove.
@JeddAhyoung8 жыл бұрын
Three years later - not that it matters - but in your shuffle variation at the end with the hi hat in place of the ghost notes, you could go a long way by sizzling the hi hat in place of the ghost notes. It would take a bit of left foot coordination along with everything else that's going on, but it would sound great! Bernard Purdie tends to do this with his shuffle, creating a distinctive sound on the hat. Nice video!
@rustyjames41778 жыл бұрын

Great teaching Gina. But please let us learn how to pronounce Jeff's name. por-CARE-oh. I know you'd want to say it correctly. :-) Really fun video just love your style. por-CARE-oh ;) Hey thanks man…thanks for watching
@MaachoMaan9 жыл бұрын
Wood Barter - Assuming YOU'D want to say it correctly, it's por-CAR-o, like Borrow; Tomorrow; Porcaro; ...or simply the CAR that you drive.... The way you've written it, por-CARE-oh....like Arrow or Narrow, is wrong.
@woodbarter57139 жыл бұрын
You may very well be correct but I grew up my entire life hearing it pronounced the way I explained. I never met one of the Porcaros but I was a close personal friend of WWII ace Bill Freeman. His daughter "Becca" dated Jeff and Bill said they were about to become engaged and that he had spent a lot of time around him. Becca was a fruit cake (I know that personally and even Bill would tell you the same thing if he were still alive) so Jeff eventually called it off. So if Bill called him por-CARE-oh I guess I figured it was correct. But of course Bill was a Texan and old too so maybe he just couldn't pronounce it correctly. Thanks for correcting me if I am wrong. I would rather be corrected than be wrong.

You are a great drummer and a fabulous teacher... and your looks and lovely smile are a very welcome plus ;-) Regards from Mexico sweety!!!
GIna. Thanks. I've been trying to master the half-time shuffle as well for a long time. You were very astute to isolate the left hand snare part, which I agree, in my opinion, is the most difficult and nuanced part of the groove. On a side note, you may have noticed this, in Jeff's original demo on YOUTube, I noticed that he had a very sensitive snare with it being miked, which facilitated better ghost notes on the snare. His snare seemed to be a piccolo size. My problem have been the playing of the ghost notes on the snare, where mine seem to be too loud, which may be just the acoustics of my room and my kit. Anyway, thanks again, and your demo has been the most-easy to break down I have watched on KZbin....plus, you're pretty cute as well.......:) BMM
@Mychannel3778 жыл бұрын
+BM M Thank you!! :) :) Sure…snare size, and room acoustics (as well as technique) all play into the end result. I really appreciate your comment -- keep it up! It's a fun groove.

Gina - odd odd odd question. Sure I am drummer, but I am also a voiceover guy. Noticing that gorgeous gold Neumann U-87 that's laying down your voice. Love the warmth and clarity of this mic - and wondering if you know what kind of processing or tube pre-amp is being used in conjunction with this? I know - silly question, but your voice sounds beautiful through this mic.

Thank you Thank you Thank you, Gina! I've been playing 40 plus years and it's something I never bothered learning. Don't ask why...I just didn't. I've been watching Benard Purdie videos to get the concept. Watched Pecario's video and it still feels so awkward. Listened to Bonham's fool in the rain isolated track. Of all the videos, you explained the best and I got the most out of your video. Got a chuckle out of me when you ripped into Roseanna. Thanks again!

Hey! No…that's great input Jasonis. Thanks. It's a long story with that snare -- it was in a relative's basement for years (It's a 1963 Rogers) ….and I took it to my local GC to clean it up, change the heads…tune it. etc…and I was so excited to use it that I threw it in this video without paying enough attention to it. She is good and I like the lesson. I hope people that give drum lessons learn to mix the sound we hear when watching the video. The voice is clear but much lower gain than the drums. I'm tossing my volume knob back and forth because I want to hear her talk but get blown out by the drums - so loud! ....baby wakes up and cries, wife gets mad and yells, neighbors call the fuzz, I'm in jail. Mix the video better and keep me out of jail! shuffle, shuffle, shuffle.....

Outstanding explanations. When I watch the Porcaro tutorial from Drummerworld, I ask myself again and again and again, how can he hit that delicate ghost note right after hitting the heavy backbeat!?! And that is what made him one of the best drummers of all time.
@petevredenburgh88998 жыл бұрын
This is the best "TEACHER" yet for this groove. She makes it easy. I say that, but haven't got it down yet, just starting. On that beat where you do it with both hands on the hi-hat, I found something. You can play a para-diddle-diddle on the hat rather than alternate hands, and it seems to make the groove better. I still can't get the kick worked in yet. That is a hard one.
