For the OR2 the default movement is either the ETA2824-2 or the Sellita SW200-1 Elabore grade. They sold out on their CAL7275 movements long time ago.

Got an OR 1 for 2 years now. Love it. Great build quality. For me a modern interpretation of the 5517 that I could probably never afford. Not interested in modern Rolex at all.

It depends on how you view this watch. If you like the new Rolex subs, with the Maxi case, I can see how this can be viewed as a "Knock off." However if you like 5 digit subs like the 14060M, the Ginault is nice. I love the Milsub sword hands, they just look better to me. I also love the glide lock bracelet on the Ginault compared to the 5 digit Rolex subs. I think the price is reasonable, considering the finish compared to a vintage Tudor 79090 40mm, that costs $7000+, with an ETA. movement. Just my opinion though.

This watch looks great and the quality according to all the videos is outstanding. I would buy one of these watches. Of course rolex were not the first to invent the moving bezel they just plain copied it from others you might say ripped it off. So i have no worries on that score. Well done Ginault for offering a great watch with those fantastic milsub hands. Love it.

for this second generation with the ceramic inserts they switched over SW200's as the standard movement, you can still request the Ginault Cal though

Really! Good information. Their website doesn't really make anything about the movement clear. Even saying cutting and machining in the US...making it sound like a 100% US made movement.

Yes a friend owns one with an ETA 2824. They don't ship with the "clone" movement anymore and it's either an ETA or a Sellita, from my understanding.

I owned one of the first iterations when the hype was hot .It’s nice enough and well made but such a strong homage to a point it was too much . At the price there are so many good interesting pieces that can be purchased that are original. If you purchase as a sub substitute every time you look at your will be reminded it’s a homage and that’s it really .. Good review Aron ..

if i purchased this (am contemplating), every time i'd look at it all i can imagine thinking is "goddamn Rolex are dumb for not making a watch like this", 'cause, to be perfectly honest, this is the only rolex configuration that looks good to me. i detest mercedes hands, the maxi case looks awful to me, i don't like the smaller indices of most references, their older bracelets suck big time etc etc

I’ll never buy a Rolex Sub...I went with an Explorer. So I have a couple of homages. I’ve considered this watch a couple of times. I’ve just had trouble biting on the $1500 pricetag. I have a Steinhardt which I like because it’s a no match to a vintage/discontinued Model. The quality of this watch far exceeds that one though. Note: From what I’ve read the movement is a clone of the ETA 2824. Supposedly they built it in house so that they can modify/improve/change the movement as necessary for other models. I really like that they didn’t use the Mercedes hour hand. I just don’t think it belongs on any watch other than a Rolex. Thanks for the great review and comments!

IDK about the clone movement. But the lume on the steinhart is nothing short but sad compare to its homage sub 600$ compatitors.

I’ve seen the version 2 And I thought the opposite about the lume...I did see that was a major complaint with their first offering though...Nevertheless, I think I’m gonna stick with my Steinhart and the explorer(Which is a forever watch for me)...Too many other watches out there but I want for 1500 bucks or less.

The Ocean Rover 2 uses ETA 2824-2 or SW200 movements. Ginault did away with the in-house movements for version 2. The gray bezel is platinum fill, just like Rolex uses. These are exceptional watches.

That is correct, and one of the main reasons for the 2nd version of the OR. My OR2 has the eta2824.

The $1600 model is the date model. The model you are reviewing is $1300 and if you get it from the pre-sale it's $1039

Probably a good idea for them to have a clear website. They didn't even list this model when it was sent, all the information was "on the forums". Little shady honestly. If you love your Ginault, you should. They are nice watches. I would just spend my $1k+ on something a little more unique.

Ty sir, never had one before, many owners that I know here have hard time finding a service here for its in house movement. Gotta love watching all the watches In your channel. But for the price tag, I'd rather go for the ball and omega watches.

CAL7275 used in the OR1 is an 2824 clone. Any qualified watchmaker will be able to service it. My local watch maker had no issue servicing it after 3 years of wearing. The OR2 uses either SW200 or ETA 2824 (Elabore grade) so shouldn't be any issue there either. Ball is nice and a brand with lots history, but in terms of quality and workmanship, the OR2 is a few leagues above the Ball divers.

People who poo poo watches are so funny. I get the whole thing with homages, but when I was looking at buying a new watch recently, it came down to buying an Omega, Tag Heuer, Ginault, or biting the bullet on a sub. I have the money, have always wanted a sub, love the new case... and at the end of the day couldn't bring myself to spend 2k on a watch and 8k on a brand name. Do you have any idea how many different extravagant scuba dives I can take with the money I saved? Some of us want something that is a quality sportsman's dive piece, but don't think it should cost the price of a car. And, oh by the way, rolex felt similarly when they were a younger company developing the submariner.

I actually never poo poo watches. If you check my videos, I pretty much like everything. This is a great watch, but for a company that has a questionable past and interesting sales techniques, I just feel money could be be better well spent. As I mentioned in the end of the video, you can get into a nice pre owned Omega Seamaster or Tudor black bay for just slightly more money. I agree, but this watch offers a combination of previous Rolex subs, all in one. I dislike the maxi case on new subs. I like this has a 5 digit sub style, but with ceramic bezel. I also like the Milsub sword hands. They look better imo than mercedes hands. The Ginault bracelet is definitely better than the 5 digit sub bracelet.

I am a Rolex fanboy so of course I support buying Rolex. That said, I also own 3 of these Rovers. Besides the quality and craftsmanship being almost on par with Rolex, The Ocean Rivers offer changes and alternatives that you would never see on Rolex, and it's fun for us and refreshing.

First, you cannot get this watch from Rolex, it does no, and never did exist. Many people really dislike the new maxi case including me. Second, you cannot even get a new Sub, unless you are willing to spend over $11000 from the grey market, or I guess you could get on the waiting list for the next 5 years.So if you want ceramic Sub with the older, and better case and milsub hands, this is it.

Just no. This watch makes me cringe. No one will ever be able to convince me that a blow up doll is in the same category as a real woman. While my daily wear is a Sea-Dweller, I have owned a number of Steinharts. Aside from their quality, Steinhart has an actual physical address/location, a real-life owner/president who is accessible- Günter Steinhart, awesome customer service and they service their own watches. I can truly and deeply sympathize with those who were “catfished” into buying a Ginault based on misleading/false advertising. I too have been scammed before myself. But at some point you have to just let go and accept that this watch is wrapped in deceit. There are enough videos to understand that Ginault has been a shady company with shady practices. They have failed to address controversies surrounding their watches when approached by respected watch collectors and enthusiasts. It’s a shame. For a micro brand, I think a Steinhart or a Monta Oceanking might be a better overall value.
