I keep on returning to this video. It convinced me to buy a 181175LSILN. It took around a month to get to me, but today it arrived at home. Sadly, I am in another country and don't return until around midnight tomorrow. Got a few unboxing photos from the wife, and looks great. She commented that the lume was amazing and that she'd not seen one so good ever before. Also saying that the quality of cut and polish was fabulous. So I'm itching to get home !

I’ve had my Ocean Rover for over a year now. It was the best I could afford right out of college. Within the first year the bezel broke loose and became bidirectional and the glide-lock clasp had a screw that kept coming loose. Sent it in to get repaired and they gave me a new clasp and fixed the bezel, but the new clasp has recently been having the same problem, a loose screw that blocks the clasp from opening, which is frustrating because I just want to enjoy my watch. The watch is beautiful and keeps accurate time, and customer service was good, but after a year of ownership I can’t help but want something more original. What I really want is a Sea-Dweller 4000 and/or the new OP white dial 39mm. But it will be years before I can afford them. I appreciate the videos man.

Great video! I recently received a Ginault Ocean Rover 181175LSILN in mid August. I reached out to Ginault and they offered me this model that wasn’t available on their website at the time. They sent me a wrist shot of the watch and I had to have it. This is the first time I spent over $1000 on a watch. I was fortunate to get the 20% online coupon. I really like this piece, I find myself glancing at it from time to time. I have just within the last couple of years started buying nicer watches. I still don’t think I can drop $8500 on a submariner, but I have bought a Glycine sub combat Goldeneye version, a Steinhart Ocean 2 white, a Victorinox Ambassador 24148, and a few cheaper watches. I like all of those watches but tend to wear the Ginault more. I think I’m ready to thin out the heard and keep my favs. I must say that there are two things that I am not crazy about this watch. 1. The red second hand, although it’s kinda growing on me. 2. The bezel action, it’s kinda weird and feels sloppy, push it down and then rotating feels okay but when I’m just wiping the face clean and get to the bezel it feels like it’s loose. Anyway, thanks for the videos and great work!

Another great review. I am particularly not interested in homage watches or brands who only manufacture homage watches. However, I would like to see what Ginault creates in the future. If they take the same path as Tudor for example. I would love to give them a shot because they are an American company ( I’m not necessarily a buy American or else kinda guy. I just like rooting for the home team) but I’m not there yet.

I think there is a lot of potential for good things to come from this company in the future. Keep an eye out I know at some point they do have plans of creating some new and original designs.

I got the 181070LSILN which is essentially the exact same but with no date. I absolutely love this watch. I was worried that after watching and reading a bunch of great reviews that I may have built it up too much in my head and was going to be disappointed but the opposite happened. I was even more pleased with the watch than I had expected to be. Clearly this watch is a proper homage whereas so many other so-called homages are just shoddy lookalikes. However, I think this watch has a distinct identity of its own for a few good reasons. The fact that this watch, from day 1 of its design, was not an attempt to recreate any single model of Submariner shows that Ginault actually had to make several design decisions themselves and I agree with every one of those decisions. Picking the best features from different models and creating one watch with all of those features was a great approach and absolutely paid off in the end. The second thing that I think gives this watch a unique identity is the fact that it clearly features a level of machining and finishing quality that is very rarely seen at the $1,000 price point. The enamel dial, maxi indices, top notch lume, superb finishing, the very well regulated movement, the excellent bracelet and clasp, etc, are things we are used to seeing in significantly pricier offerings but very rarely at $1,000. I think the Ocean Rover was a slam dunk for Ginault and I’m very happy to own one. I might even buy a second one.

Quality, time keeping performance, as well as fit and finish is worth the money for what they're charging. I'd probably buy 2 or 3 watches for that price. But that's just me. BUT! Given the choice between the Ocean Rover and a well made replica for the same price, I'd probably pick the Ginault. Too bad I don't have that money to spend on one watch.... Life goes on... LOL 😉

Another good review, Guy! I have a Tisell no-date Marine Diver. Overall, it seems to be very well made, with a ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and a Miyota 90s5 movement. If I have any complaint it would be with the bezel. It’s looks great but doesn’t have the best action. The watch, however, is very accurate. They seem to sell for a premium on eBay, but if purchased directly are about $230.

JustBlueFish Watch Reviews That’s what I’be read on the forums. I bought mine on eBay and I’m pretty sure the seller made a small profit. I could probably sell mine and at least get my money back. I think it’s a one man operation in South Korea. I’ve read the waiting list can be anywhere from one to five months. The person who makes the watches is Mr. Oh. For a $200ish watch, it really seems to punch above its weight.

I bought one of the black no-date models with the gold sand lume last year when they were still doing the 50% off deal. It was worth the price then, and I wouldn't hesitate to pay the full price for another (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a GMT). I alternate it with my Nomos Club and Speedmaster Professional, and in no way do I feel like I'm wearing a lesser watch. In fact, the bracelet on the Ginault is miles better than the speedy's. I'd put the Ocean Rover on par with the Tudor Black Bay in terms of quality. Considering the older Black Bay's had ETA 2824's in them, I'd have a hard time justifying the price difference. I understand the skepticism, and, to a certain extent, the criticism of the company's business practices, but the Ocean Rover is truly a great watch. It's beautiful, built like a tank, and runs within +2 seconds/day. If you're on the market for a classic looking dive watch and can get over the fact that it doesn't say "Rolex" on the dial, I highly recommend you pick one up.

I have purchased three Ocean Rovers, 2 for myself and 1 for my best friend's birthday. I have been collecting watches for more than 20 years and have ventured from major Swiss brands to micro brands to even the darkside of rep watches. My personal experience with the Ocean Rover is that the quality is simply amazing. Its quality and craftsmanship comes very very close to my Rolex Subs but at 1/8 the price. At the 1k price range, there is really no other rivals. The quality is truly that amazing. And for those who said this is a one man operation using rep parts, I really have to say that's a totally ignorant and baseless statement. I have been to the darkside and I can tell that nothing on the rep market can come close to this quality. Even the famous V6 and V7 are jokes compare to the Ocean Rover.

The Ocean Rover is not your average $500 pseudo "Swiss Made" Sub homage. I own a few Rolex Sports models as well as some of those everyday house brand Sub homages, and I can say with personal experience that Ginault's quality in the Ocean Rover is scarily close to Rolex and a few leagues above from other Sub homages.

Thanks for watching buddy. I think the Ginault is a better made watch in a few ways. First of all that replica had some issues with things like a stiff bezel, bad screw down crown threading, and a number of other little things that made it feel unrefined and not smooth. Like I said in that replica video, it was a very good look-a-like but when you had it in hand you could feel things didn't feel quite right. This watch has none of those types of issues. Also while I didn't talk about it on the Replica video, I did notice the replica didn't run well at low power reserve. I took it from a dead stop and give it a little power, just enough to get it running, and then put it on my timegrapher. In that low power state it ran like a dog with 2 broken legs. The movement in this Ginault seems to be more consistent and better regulated for both positions and isochronism.

What I do know about ginault is that they lie a lot. My guess is that they were a replica business at some point. But what I dont really like is that they are not really a homage but a parody in my opinion with their "kinetic continous" and "precicion chronometer" "hand build in america" that not even a thing. I would not pay that kind of money for a parody like that.

Aside from the Bracelet, which is entirely sourced from Asia and a few small components in the movement the watches are made in America. If I had to guess, I think they made a mistake or had a misunderstanding of what the FTC requirements for using the phrase made in america were, and corrected the mistake. But if you have proof that shows there was some nefarious intent to defraud consumers I'd of course like to see it.

Are they still claiming they discovered a gold sand lume from argentina? I look It myself, and now they say, "we travel far to acquire this material" They have been caught in a lot of lies, is up to you if you believe they were buying reviews at a loss. I costs them more than $700 to produce the watch. It’s never gonna be $700 bucks.

Guy, If you had a choice between the Ginault and a similar priced Seiko diver or even say a Sumo or SBDC051/53 what would you choose?
@JustBlueFish
@JustBlueFish 6 жыл бұрын
Definitely not the Sumo, that watch didn't blow me away. I haven't seen the SBDC watches yet, although I would really like to. As far as similarly priced Seiko Divers, I've never really seen a $1200-1500 Seiko diver close enough to give you an honest answer. That said, there are so many factors at play even if I had experience with a watch like you're describing it would be a tough decision. Since I have a Submariner already I don't think I would buy a Submariner homage watch. I like homage watches, but I wouldn't spend my money on one when I have a Sub. Assuming I didn't have a Sub and wouldn't realistically be able to get one the Ginault would be a heavy contender for sure.

I have an SBDC053 on an OEM bracelet and the watch is superbly finished. The movement is solid but is still prone to positional variance, I basically have to lay it dial down to keep it accurate. This is my biggest gripe with the 6R15. I'm confident the Ginault has a better movement but in my opinion, it lacks soul compared to many Japanese and similarly priced dive watches from Doxa, Zodiac and Squale.

You bought the 053 then bought the Seiko bracelet separately?

I feel like this watch is way better than my hulk. Why would anybody spend 9000.00 on a tool watch that became I made it in life watch. This watch keeps perfect time and a tool watch without worrying about scratching it. It's worth every penny. Save your money guys. This watch is very very good. My Rolex looks stupid next to this for 8 times the price. This brand will shut down every other watch brand that looks like a classic diver.

It’s amazing how this watch rates so well with all the controversy behind it. I read that it is own by a Taiwanese man who made fake Rolex watches. Also, not made in America and movement made in China. Don’t know what to believe anymore

The problem with the price of Ginault is the following . The Ginault watch was offered at one point for a entry price of $500-$600 bucks if a KZbin review was done. At the price of $500 bucks there was a profit no business operates on a loss. NOT A WATCH COMPANY. The watch is nice but it is overpriced and that is the truth. It is not worth the $1500 bucks sorry.

JustBlueFish Watch Reviews , no but they are probably curving the truth . It’s okay though they are trying to build a company. Keep up the good work?👍🏻
@JustBlueFish

I really doubt they are curving the truth. Plenty of companies operate at a loss to build the brand. Video game consoles are typically sold at a loss when they are first released to bring in early adopters. KZbin is a loss leader for google, in one article I read their operating budget was something to the tune of $175 million dollars in the negative. When Ginault was offering 50% discounts to people who would review their products they were probably losing a little or breaking even as a part of their marketing budget and the cost of doing business.

JustBlueFish Watch Reviews , TESLA also operates at a loss. We are talking about things in a bigger scale. Watches are not on the same $$$scale especially a start up watch brand. If they were not cursing the truth good for them. I hope they continue to grow .

Great video! My only concern about the Brand is their lack of Marketing to build brand equity. While it does seem that they make a superior product (I wonder how it compares to Monta?), what creates desire and demand is Marketing. I see many other micro brand companies building not only good watches but commiting to educate the public with Brand Marketing particuarly on social platforms like Instagram and KZbin. I realize not every micro brand can jump right into marketing because of budget constraints, but being in the Marketing business myself, I always appreciate a good product supported by creative advertising and marketing.

I agree 100% with you. Value is also determined by the brand's effort in marketing. People pay 8k for Rolex Subs not just because it's a quality watch but also for that logo, that brand prestige it brings. However, marketing is a double-edged sword for us consumers. If they spend a lot on marketing, creating higher brand value, that would in turn translate into a higher retail price for us. What I like about Ginault is that this group is composed of just master watchmakers and machinists, quietly building super high-quality timepieces at a reasonable price, kinda like that bespoke suit tailor, or cobbler in the hidden alleys of Paris, not super famous, but producing fine quality men's wear at fraction of the cost.
