It's funny with the remake of Carrie, I'm not gonna say that Chloe Moretz is far from a beauty by a long shot. When Moretz was cast there was a little bit of an uproar about how much Moretz was far from the ideal version of who Carrie White was supposed to be. Especially compared to Spacek. Sissy's looks were defenitley downplayed for the original. Both actresses had a natural beauty. Spacek in this film and Coal Miner's Daughter natural looks were accentuated more, freckles and all. Spacek defenitley had a look that defined the seventies.

I wonder if Loretta Lynn saw this movie and thought ... this young lady would be perfect playing me in a movie? I know Loretta Lynn said she picked Sissy Spacek out of a bunch of photos to play her in Coal Miners Daughter, but if Loretta heard her sing ... it might of crossed her mind before. I could definitely see why she played the part in Coal Miners Daughter so well. It's my 1st time seeing this movie. It's a good movie . I love that era. Especially when it comes to the decor in the houses back then.

How innocent that film seems now. Iam deeply thankful Igrew up in the sixties/seventies. Try and imagine all that today.Half of what the people were doing in the film would end in disaster for them today. Smoking in a restaurant, children playing by themselves outside without parents, men being sexist, girl hitchhiking by herself. And now the ultiimate tyranny everyone being made to wear masks the whole time pubs first with smoking ban then shutting down completely. Everyone firghtened of their own shadow. . There was a lot wrong back then but they were happier times and much more intersting and exciting times. If you'd told people then what society has become today with its tyrannies and dogmas and boredome they would say most of them "oh no I dont believe it, its not going to turn out as bad as that."

At the time of release , Spacek was 24yo . The ages in the film were explicitly given , but from context and appearance her character was 18-22yo , and the guy +/- 40yo .

I lost my wife of 40 years to cancer. Why do other men feel a man needs a woman to take care of him? I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Also, at my age, any woman I meet is going to have as much emotional baggage as I do. It's a toss-up as to who will be taking care of who. My personality would clash with her's in under an hour. But this is an old movie, I was married the year before this movie was made. I'm watching this in 2021. My wife was nineteen when we married, Sissy Spacek wasn't much older. Although very pretty, Sissy Spacek has always looked a bit wash-out to me. Even with professional make-up, she lacks color and definition.
